From the looks of that jacket....the "dry cleaner" should be shot!

Looks like someone just sort of threw it in the washer with a load of towels...

it looks like the jacket he wore in Columbus...but it sure didn't look like that!

Glad people seemed to be entertained last night!

From the CH: The Saga of Flat Clay at Pala....

Quote
("spotlightlover")
Good morning from Pala. Well-- morning anyway. *Yawn*.

I don't even know where to begin about last night. It was one of those experiences where you say to yourself, "Oh my God, what if I hadn't BEEN there?!?!"

You.Have.No.Idea. From the minute Clay walked out, he was like a different person from San Diego. The hair was great, the outfit was classy, he was obviously in a mood to PAR-TAAAAAY.

The highlight of the night had to be artquest's Flat Clay, which had been in our ninth-floor window all day (the rest of "us" being Permaswooned and ncgurrl). When Angela and Quiana pointed him out and Clay started to riff on it, and then talked to artquest in the audience, I thought I would die -- mostly from being UNABLE to laugh. ("Make sure that Clack is steady!") Then when he actually started to SING to it, it was all I could do not to drop the camera. Run, don't walk, to get "When I See You Smile" from this concert.

But the fun wasn't over there. The Ab-Fab Mr. artquest left the concert to sooth his aching back, and spent the second half up in the room animating Dancing Flat Clay, to the delight of the whole audience AND Clay. I can't even remember right now which song that was, but I'll find it.

Clay was hysterically funny tonight. The "slooooow" banter before TWYMMF was just hilarious. I can't begin to remember all the best moments without reviewing all the Clack. Another great one was when Clay was late getting onstage for the second half and had to run from the wings to his spot to get to the mic in time. Lover All Alone was especially ethereal and heart-tugging.

After the concert, the lobby was an absolute CRUSH of babbling, elated women who all knew they had shared a very special night. A bunch of us congregated in our suite afterwards to watch Clack and gush and get very silly, which culminated with polyvinyl and ellenpoppy sharing their vision of the Clay Aiken Golden Girls Nursing Home and Accessible Cabaret Theater that Clay will have to open in Branson in about 2022. But I'll let them tell that story.

On to the Greek. He's going to have to work hard there to top himself.

Thanks for the pics!  Love the shirt.  Reminds me of a pink oxford shirt Mr Pamela used to wear when we were dating.  Ah......

Love the linen jacket, and the hair is approaching sublime.  Seriously.

I cannot wait to see him again, to hear his voice LIVE, to laugh at and with him, and to experience it with all of YOU is the icing on the cake.

And, I love cake.  And icing too.

OK...I have seen the "pose" in the last picture in the series that were posted from last night...and that same "pose" from other concert photos.

Seriously now...who can say from what song that was from...and why?

Channeling a bit of Elvis there? Is this a "for real" pose or something from one of the parodies in the "classics" medley..

I just can't imagine what song of "his" ellicits that reaction...I saw Columbus and guess I have already forgotten...??

can anyone help?

beautiful ring...very classy and GREAT taste and style from the "fans" that went together to present this to Clay, as I have read somewhere?

Is that "for real" too?

Either way- it sure is gorgeous....

                                                           Clayed in Pala-dise…

It’s 9 am here in the west, and after about 6 hours sleep, I’m just too excited to snooze any longer… Clay was feeling his oats last night and Thea and I experienced relentless Clay comedy…the man just brought it all night long.

Thea arrived the night before, and we’ve been gabbling/laughing/eating and piano playing ever since…there’s nothing like feeling the keen anticipation of a Clay concert with a dear Clay buddy who also adores him.  Yes!

From my place, I allowed for about a two hour drive down to the venue, what with the penchant for California drivers to collide unexpectedly and shut freeways down for hours, I was having none of that…had to provide options to get there for sure and not miss a single minute of ‘Clay time’…so we arrived in the vicinity by about 1:15.  I signed us up to attend the preparty put on by the Inclusion Revolution Brigade at Tori Spelling’s bed and breakfast in near by Fallbrook, which started at 2 pm.  Before we headed on over to join in…we stopped for a stretch break and all at the nearby McD’s…and I noticed a group of several Japanese young ladies coming towards us…light bulb moment…I spoke up to them and asked, “Clay fans?”…and in great English quite a few of them giggled and replied, Yes…and then animated greetings including some hugs ensued…we explained to a gal accompanying them (who seemed to be a local) that we had read all about them on the boards at last evening’s concert.

Next, we were off to the preparty for a brief stop, before we headed on over to the Pala.  Fallbrook abuts the Indian reservation site of the casino and venue…and what a variance of terrain…from dessert scrub, to woodsy tree lined windy roads, we drove to a lovely château structure surrounded by rolling, lush green lawns.  The party was out doors and it was the most ideal weather…mid-seventies, light breeze, sun shining through a grove of trees… absolutely a splendid afternoon…ala The Great Gatsby.  We met a gal who stated she was a writer with “Pop Star” (?)…not sure if I heard the name of the publication accurately…and she made quite a point of the fact that she was bringing many  ‘heavy weights’ with her to hear Clay at the Greek.  She further stated that one of her contacts is a highly respected concert pianist…and that upon hearing Clay sing, couldn’t get over the purity of his voice… (we fans noted this long, long ago, didn’t we!)  Thea and I met other Clay fans, and who should come to greet us…Shakeninseattle and two other gals…we set up an after the Greek get together at the Pacific Dining Car for tonight.

Then, we were off to the Pala…I was trying another entrance into the Casino…after employing the mapquest approach when I scoped out the route to this place, I noted that it entailed a LENGTHY drive through the reservation and windy roads, many steep drops…and I decided then and there, I wanted to avoid that at all costs (well…not all…not to the tune of $400 dollars a night…the casino jacked the room rate up for Clay …yikes!)…so, I was vastly relieved to see that this other road involved significantly less time sharing unfamiliar windy roads in the dark of night with inebriated casino winners/losers making their exit.

At the Pala, the personnel provided complementary valet service for everyone, and on in we went to the casino.  It was abuzz with activity already, and we walked on over so I could show Thea this surprisingly pleasing venue.

We exchanged pleasantries with other Clay fans while leisurely waiting until the concert began.  A friend of mine, Marilee, Claypig on the CB and her husband Jim, Claydawg, joined me for a chat…and Marilee had the honor of personally escorting Faye over to the preparty in San Diego…she was impressed how unassuming and delightful she was in person.

As the time for the concert approached, I was scouting for two people to receive some extra tickets I had…they were for seats in the middle (I had upgraded just a bit)…and I was so pleased to find two fans…an older gal, and a young lady in her early twenties, who had not heard Clay live before, in seats way back…to be the recipients. (I loved the expression on the young lady’s face, when she realized the ticket was hers, free of charge.)

Our seats were to the left side of the stage about a quarter of the way back, and in this venue, folding chairs on grass…it seemed a good deal closer…about the equivalent of the 10th row at the Star Plaza, for those of you who have been there.

The orchestra was quite small for this concert (in comparison to what I have observed in the clack) and as it turns out for my take, not nearly as skilled as some Clay’s performed with so far…they were a contract group…hired together specifically for the gig…and that does make a difference…in comparison to a Grammy award winning symphony.  And, Clay’s orchestral arrangements are rich and not a walk in the park…even for professionals.  However, Clay and the gals were not the least bit constrained by this.  Perhaps the rest contributed to their well being…for they really brought it last night!…some stand outs were Measure of a Man and Without You, and Angela’s solo …the home town girl was hot- no screechy vibe – great acoustics/engineering produce authentic sound delivery.  And…all of the tracks sound ever so much more inspired live…it does really make a difference for Clay to sing to an audience, that is indisputable isn’t it?

The ‘flat Clay’ banter was just a hoot! well captured by spotlightlover’s recap Marilyn brought over to our board.  Marilyn posted really comprehensive banter dialogue for you…I’ll just comment on a few notable points in it all… the folks perched in their hotel rooms enjoying the Clay…that was just too funny…these ‘attendees’ weren’t just casually standing there…oh no, you could see them seated right in front of their windows…set for the entire musical offering…when Clay started in on the slow…s – l – o – o – o – o – w   bit, he pitched his voice down deep as some poster characterized ala Barry White…and the look on his face was just priceless.  This was probably my favorite banter moment for the night: “he said something in a really deep voice - and then he said, "That wasn't really funny." Quiana says, "NO - but it was sexy." The crowd goes CRAZY!!!”  I can’t wait to see the clack and really see his face when that happened.

Clay’s becoming the dancing man…for real…the Jefferson moves…the ‘up close and personal tete a tete with Angela…his inhibitions are fading…and that natural rhythm that has always been his, is just coming to the forefront…for all of us to celebrate ah yes.

I couldn’t believe how fast the time went…from the dialogue, it was time for Lover All Alone.  This time, I was glad I had heard a bit of the clack…(I’ve viewed some…not a lot…to keep a bit of the concert still fresh when I finally got to start attending mine)…because this was not the thrilling version of it to me…not because of Clay…but I felt the cellist was not on the top of her game…it is such an exquisite contrapuntal line, and I just didn’t hear it resonate in consonance with Clay’s gorgeous vocal. [ However, in fairness, I should mention that there was a gentleman…and I use that term advisedly…was markedly three sheets to the wind and had already received the attention of one of the ushers after he had turned around and engaged in some kind of heated exchange with a gal who appeared to be about 75 years old…and in my unobstructed view of the whole thing…completely unprovoked…came back and was ‘chatting’ with some other usher to my immediate left…boohoo!!!]

At the conclusion of the concert…no bus line…oh pshaw!…Clay was smiling broadly as he sang to us “Because You Loved Me”…he was beaming and grinning ear to ear…and just seemed to be soaking in all of the love.

Clay could sing to me all day, and I’d still be ready for more…isn’t it amazing how truly addicting he is?!!!…I am so glad I’ve got more concerts in store for me this time…WOOHOO!

It took us a couple hours to get back home…we stopped for a late supper somewhere past Temecula…I must say I was so relieved to get through that windy road…scary…and it was the much shorter route of it…I’m not surprised Clay asked us to drive safely…how sweet…for even he must have noticed the challenge in driving around there.  Thea and I agree…next time, either stay there, or drive nearby, and hire a limo to go on in and out of the reservation.

Thea’s going to share her experience a little later…as she remembers it all…and I might add in a few things and I process this latest Clayventure. Suffice it to say, enjoying the Clay love is oh so much richer shared in the company of the devoted…thanks for sharing the journey with me, fellow Claymaniacs!

NICELY PUT Clay Harmony!!! Clapping Clapping

I did notice the more "Funny talky" Clay at this show from the clack, but REALLY noticed the change in "vocals and orchestral sound"...lacking.

I say that coming from the Columbus show...and I thought I was nuts so...

I went and downloaded Columbus. Now, for those that MUST have perfect camera focus and excellent nose hair shots..you may not enjoy them (but I guess I would then suggest to shut your eyes and open your ears)., BUT for Fantastic No Holding back sound coming from Clay Aiken...Columbus was HOT!

And referrring to the Columbus orchestra...they were fabulous!

As you CAN see in Lover All Alone - in this clip Clay even ENCOURAGES the cellist to stand for an ovation, which he did proudly. It was beautiful. I was quite proud of them and most proud of Clay for NOT holding back his BIG at times Voice. Thats what drew me TO Clay in the first place.

Was your venue indoor? It seemed outdoor, but you mentioned the "acoustics"...we were outdoor with the large orchestra and "shell" around Clay and the girls.

He had LOTS of people to sing TOWARD...not just AT, like at some of the smaller venues.

I did download your concert ClayHarmony and I appreciate your take on everything.

You described your experience using very "feeling" words. The "Way It Made Me Feel" was great!

Great Job!

Here is another that was posted in the OCD:

( Copied with her -Lolita- permission and moved here)

First, I am one of those people who are satisfied if they get to see Clay in a concert ones or twice a year, but after last night, I wished I had gone to the entire concert he has here in California. We can all agree to some extent that we have somewhat calm down with our excitement towards Clay but after last night my excitement is back. My excitement has never really left…but I have calmed down a bit.

Six hours before the concert, I was very close to losing my mind and hubby did not help. In fact, I was very close to murdering him. As I mentioned yesterday, we have decided to leave at 4:30…at two ‘clock, hubby decided to get up…mumbles about taking a shower, go get a haircut, and wash his car. I cannot believe what I was hearing. Hell, these things should have been done two days ago, but no, hubby has to wait until the last minute. I really believe that he is trying my patience. He finally got home at four o’clock; he is now in a rush to get dress…he yelled at me for not getting his clothing ready, meaning that I did not lay it on the bed for him. I yelled back, telling him that he is not cripple. He could do it himself. He yelled at me for being in the bathroom while he is using it…I yelled back. Finally, after all the yelling, we were on our way to Pala.

The drive was great and we got there in no time. We went to dinner, they ate while I watch, we walk around the casino afterwards and hubby feed the slot machines until we were ready to go to the venue. The venue was very nice and relaxing, some people are already seated…we waited until seven fifteen to take our seats. Soon after that, I see people start piling in, I read at the cellcert that it was sold out…I saw a few empty chairs but I believe that some people opted to stand as I saw many standing on both sides of the venue. There were plenty of energetic people there.

Before the concert started, hubby met a young couple who was seating next to him. They were drinking. She asked my husband if he was a fan, hubby answered that he is not and that I am and pointed at me. We shook hands and her husband declared his love for Clay and his voice. When the concert started, I learn that the young couple were screamers…the wife could whistle, like no other, she and her husband screams, “I love you” throughout the concert. At one time, Clay was talking and the husband, scream “sweet,” Clay noticed that, and repeats it…I believe that make him (the husband) happy

I don’t remember what Clay sang first…but I’m sure you all know that already…all I can say is that I feel like crying when I heard that magnificent voice. His duet with Angela (IWKWLI) was the best I’ve ever heard. In fact, I don’t think that Clay can top that. Then again, we are talking about Clay here; he might just prove me wrong. Each of the songs that he sang received standing ovation, including the girls. I didn’t care much for the “Television theme, but the rest of the concert was perfect. When he sang Sorry Seems to Be the Hardest Word, I started looking around…the sky, the breeze, the branches swaying, the perfect weather the many different faces listening  to Clay’s every words, and Clay on the stage…I couldn’t ask for anything more. I was/am more then happy.

During intermission, I look around and saw people mingling with one another. I heard an older woman asked an older man, how he like the concert so far. The older man answered “so so,” I think she was disappointed with his answer. And I’m thinking, “What is he looking for?” I’m sure, you all heard about the “Flat Clay,” we all looked at it and Clay sang to it. He was so funny. After the intermission, he looked at it again, then he started laughing…we all look back, and the darn thing (Flat Clay) was swaying. One cannot missed it…the thing was huge but it was too far to get a good pictures.

At the end of the concert, (I hated this part) we all got up and ready to go. The couple that we met earlier turns to my husband and say “Clay is overrated.” Hubby did not understand why one would say that. Hubby talks and talks about that comment all the way home. He argued that the couple was the loudest of all, and to make that comment did not make any sense. I only have eleven words to say, “I blame it on whatever it was that they were drinking.”

Hubby and son enjoyed the concert, they even laughed but hubby did not like Lover all alone.

I almost forgot, when Clay and the girls did the classic, everyone, including the older people were dancing. One older man sure has the move.

Johanna - What a great review.  It sounds like he did an awesome job last night.  You are so right when you said that after seeing him, we want to continue to go to other shows.  I am sure tonight will be absolutely wonderful.  I wish I was there.

After you finish your CA concerts, you can get ready to head east and start all over again.

Have a great time tonight and enjoy

THE EPITOME OF DECORUM

("nordie") FROM CH
San Diego Meet & Greet:

Since I never win anything, unless you count a classroom set of black handle, regular size scissors, which only a teacher could truly appreciate, you can imagine my complete surprise when I checked my email literally 10 minutes before leaving on a 10 day camping trip, on which I would have little, or no access to a computer. I must have read the “subject” line 5 times before opening the email that seemed to imply that I was a “Clay Aiken Meet and Greet Winner.” I just could not wrap my mind around such an eventuality. I feel like I now have an inkling on how a million dollar lottery winner must feel......it was a wonderful, exciting, joyous moment. Now, the million dollars would be have been great of course, but I digress. So, here is a jumbled up mess of a recap.

We were told to check with the Box Office at 3:00 for our passes. The long suffering agent told me and the others, that we should check back in a half hour or so to see if the passes had been delivered. This 30 minute watch turned into a 3 hour ordeal. I was supposed to be helping clavia with the preparty, but I was not there long enough to be of much help.I hope she will forgive me....eeeep! Mary, who was quite pleasant, finally delivered the passes around 6:00. Jerome came and got the 6 of us around 6:30. He accidently dropped his cell phone on the sidewalk, as we headed to the venue, but had it all back together quickly. He was very laid back and funny. We were taken to a VIP tent area to the side of the stage, and seated at a large round table on a grassy area next to the bay. It was a beautiful backdrop for this once in a lifetime experience. Jerome gave us a very short list of the rules, then Mary and he disappeared for a couple of minutes Since the table was very large there were several empty seats scattered around the table. The group spent the time discussing where we thought Clay would sit. Of course, we were wrong. He appeared around the corner with Jerome and Mary. He sat next to me (which made me for some reason lean away from him) and someone said she thought he would sit on her side. He said something like “Oh, I heard you guys talking about it, so I decided sit over here instead.” I think he was just kidding, and proceeded to ask each person where we were from. All were either from San Diego, or another southern California city.

After a few witty remarks one of which he had all of us say the word “roof” as he was trying to prove that one of the people in the group must have grown up in Canada due to the way she pronounced that word. He then turned to me, held out his hand and said, “Hi, I am Clay Aiken” and shook my hand, and did the same to everyone else. Then he looked around the table and said since it I looked like the only one who had questions I should go ahead and ask them. For some reason I leaned away from him most of the time. The chairs were very close, and I did not want to invade his space.

Here are a couple of answers that relate to his music:

He said that he was looking for songs that would be a departure from the originals that were on the first two albums.
He said he wrote the bridge in "Lonely No More", and was not singing it, or songs like Broken Wings, because they did not mesh well with a symphony.

I had a couple of trite questions which he also answered. Then he asked us to give him what we wanted to him to sign. I had him sign my "All Is Well" CD while the other items ranged from T-shirts to pictures. He said he made a mistake while signing mine, but then quickly said, “See, I fixed it.” Then he said it was time for pictures and remarked that we had the most beautiful backdrop for our shots. We were called in order, but since we were still sitting down after the first picture, he yelled something like “Hurry ladies...run,” as it was only about 25 minutes until curtain time. He did the prom pose and like others, I have no recollection of how it actually went. He just expertly moves you into the pose and it’s over.

He then waved, thanked us, and was gone.

A few important details:

Hair: It was combed, and not messy as some of have mentioned at other M&Gs. Eyelashes were darkened. I noticed that he did have arm hair, appeared to have a bug bite on his wrist, and that his fingernails were not “chewed.”

Clothes: The usual: tan shorts, purple shirt, and flip flops.
Face: His face did not appear that full at all, and he had what looked like a couple of days of stubble.

Eyes: An pool of exquisite green

Nose: Perfection!

M&G Passes: Mary said that she had taken the picture of the tractor, and that she and Jamie had their pictures taken on it at as well.

If you are still reading, I apologize for this rambling post, but here are the answers to my trite questions and a couple of other things I just remembered.

He said he did not pick out his concert clothes. He claimed he never picks out anything.

Everyone pretty much agrees on what shows to watch on the bus. He is now watching a new TV show with Glenn Close called “Damages.” He said this in response to someone mentioning “The Riches.” He said he liked this new show even though it was “dark.”

He does not have any questions that he wishes people would ask him.

The Christmas tour would not be coming to the West Coast. He said had a specific name for the tour....but, I can’t remember it exactly....I think it was something like “Christmas in the Heartland.” He told Mary that this was going to be the title.......she didn’t seem so sure.
I asked Mary how long she had been doing this kind of job, and she answered that she had been in the Music Business for, I think, more than a decade...just can not remember her exact answer.

All in all, it was one of those times that seemed like an out of body experience. Meeting him up close has broken down a wall, for lack of a better word, for me. I was able to view him as just a regular person like the rest of us
