We are at the Hyatt in Houston.   I have seen Dudley and Bozena, Kris and Krista,  and Frankie is in the room next to us.  We are going to visit in the Lobby and then go on over to the preparty and Clay concert.  I still have not received my picture with Clay from the M&G.  Hopefully, soon.

Update from our travelers!

Marilyn just called me to say that she and Meesa were 12 exits away from Houston when they had a flat tire and right then, pouring rain so they got soaked!

The tire is fixed and they are on the road again!

Special thank yous to everyone helping out with the cellcerts!

Last night it was Marilyn and tonight Frankie will be hosting the call!

Keep in mind though that Houston has very strict security rules so if that happens and the call gets cut off don't panic. We'll carry on with the traditional cell cert!

In advance thank you to Marilyn who has agreed to host tomorrow nights cell cert in Tulsa as well!

We wouldnt' be able to do it all without these wonderful ladies on the road!

I'm on the conference call now - all by myself :lol The concert doesn't start until 8:30, I'm not sure when Frankie will be calling in but we started the call early to make sure everyone had a chance to get on and muted before she did call.

Remember that if there are issues on her end such as venue policy or cell connection then we won't be able to do the call and we'll just do the cellcert on the board like we usually do.

She also said she would hang up during the intermission, so everyone wouldn't have to be on the phone that whole time, and she would call right back after the intermission.

Reminder about muting, it is different on different phones. It could be any of the following:

"6"
"*6"
"#6"

Whichever one it is for you the system will say "You are now muted" when it works. So if you try one and don't hear that, try another one  :para

To UNmute press the same thing you did to mute.

Also, Susy won't be on the call until after 9pm so I'll be doing my best to troubleshoot and help everyone out. I'm not muted at the moment so I can help, so I'm sorry if you hear Moonshot vying for my attention. I'll mute at concert time.

I hate to admit I didn't know most of those theme songs...I guess I didn't watch that much TV! 

He was talking about Scarlett (CH) earlier, because she was videotaping, and they are reporting that he has been making faces at her camera, etc. all night.  He's having a great time....they say he looks wonderful...a little bit o'stubble... He's wearing jeans, a linen jacket with a windowpane check.

His voice sounds fantastic live, the acoustics are wonderful, a whole different vibe from Frisco (of course!)

He was dancing during the TV medley.  Hee!  They are getting lots of great clack - both video and pictures.

Clay bought Angela and Quiana new skirts.

Someone commented on the new skirts and Angela said her Sugardaddy bought it and Quiana pointed at Clay.

As you all heard, Frankie wanted to know if it was worth it to hang on, and I said YES!!!  To me, whatever we can hear is GREAT!!!

They say the audience looks like an electronics store...everyone with cameras, videotaping, cellphones etc... he keeps talking about the "fuzz" on his jacket, and the audience screamed for him to take it off (of course...!) but he said nooooo. 

He is 'stubbly' too.  The intro -- Angela came out on stage first...then Quiana came out...they both sat on stools, then Clay walked out, singing.
It wasn't a 'screaming' type intro, but they could actually hear the singing, then the crowd exploded at the end of the song. Yay!

CH reports he danced all night...almost every song!  Maybe not Lover All Alone.... :smile

RE Broken Wings...it might be difficult to duplicate all the programmed effects and the spoken word portion, although it would be just as enjoyable to most if he just sang it....I don't know.  Maybe he'll change some things up as the tour goes on.  He has done it before!

As you can tell, I have absolutely no willpower when it comes to Clay.  It's never spoiled the show for me before and I'm sure it won't this time.   :bigsmile

Hello from Houston!

Wow!  What a great concert!  It felt so different from the one in Frisco.  Beautiful auditorium instead of a soccerfield and longer with more songs and chitchat from Chatty Clay!!  He still talks so fast it's hard to understand him.  We learned after we got back to the hotel that he did come out briefly to "touch" hands of a line of fans.  No buses for the first 3 concerts, but it's nice to know he's still doing the "walk the line" thing.  So Kat, you may get to touch his hand in Tulsa!!

I thought Clay looked really good.  I had JoAnn's binoculars for half the concert even though we had good seats.  I liked his hair;  kind of layered and not as red as Frisco!  He had on a light pink shirt with a beige jacket with light blue lines in blocks;  blue jeans, and JoAnn said striped socks (I never saw them) and ??suede?? looking shoes.

What fun to see Frankie and her daughter, Amy, Bozena and Dudley, Kris and Krista, Marilyn and Meesa again, too.   We had a nice visit when we checked into the Hyatt and we got together after the concert, too.  We did not see Colleen, but hope she was at the concert.

PS:  Still no M&G picture!! :para  I saw someone I met from the Chastain (Atlanta) concert and she said she had a Houston M&G.  She said it sounded just like the Frisco M&G.  A group setting with Clay and individual pictures.

PS2:  At the hotel, too I visited with the Louisiana Clay fans and also the KC Clay fans.   I also got to visit with Dale from Jacksonville, FL.  I haven't seen her for a few years and it was great to see her again.  It's fun to see people you haven't seen for a while.

Prissy - it sure sounded wonderful.  The cellcert conference wasn't the best but heck at least I knew Clay was at the other end.  Enjoy my friend and catch you this evening.  It was so good to hear you as well. :hugg  Give everyone my love.

Just watched "Everything I Have" from last night. I love that song and am so glad he's singing it live, I can't wait to see/hear it for myself instead of just on video. I did notice, however, that the Aiken Random Lyric Generator kicked in during the chorus.  :wink

And a HUGE THANK YOU to whatever Powers That Be that had Angela sing "Like A Virgin" instead of Clay doing Keith's version. While he did the imitation well and it was kinda funny, that song just makes me cringe.

That's the funniest story I've heard in a long time!  How fortunate for him there are other people in the world with ginormous feet attending his shows.   :lol

I'm needy today with lots of questions.........

(1)  "The Way You Make Me Feel" ???......Do I know this song?  Where is it from, and apparently someone with the initials MJ sings it?  HELP!

(2)  "When the Lights Go Down" ???......I don't know this one either.

(3)  What is this "5th grader" show?  A game show?  Do celebrities appear on it?  Can I watch it on basic cable or is it on one of those fancy channels?

(4)  Is it just me or was his hair red in Frisco, but brown in Houston?   :scratch

Unlike many in the fandom, I'm not a huge fan of LAL....it's way too sad and personal and overwhelms my soul with sorrow.  I saw the YOUTUBE footage of the Houston performance and it just blew me away.   He nailed it and managed to invade the privacy of my deepest and personal emotions.   :para   He's good, REALLY good!

It is the new Jeff Foxworthy game show. It is on Fox, Thursdays at 8pm. Adults answer basic questions from 1st grade - 5th grade lessons. There is a "classroom" of 5th graders that answer as well. They haven't had celebrities on it yet but you know every game show eventually has a celebrity show.

Hi everyone, I'm new to the boards - I'm also the one who was "taking notes". What really happened:
Because we weren't allowed to have a camera, my mother had brought a sketch pad and pen so that I (an artist for as long as I can remember) could sketch him during the show. I wasn't expecting any attention, so I practically turned purple when he started talking to me. Clay said he liked the sketch, scurried around the stage until he could show it to the cameras, and then took my pen and autographed it. Someone on the front row started to object to him signing something during the show so he made the crack about "grading it" and "giving it a C".

Probably one of the most surprising moments of my life to date!

Very cool Sailor! I am sure THAT is a keeper!!!

The sketch wasn't a masterpiece - I was using pen on yellow lined paper - but it wasn't terrible. =)

I don't know if this is the place for Concert Reviews, but I'm going to try to put my Houston Review here, anyway. If there is a central location for reviews, I'm hoping one of the Moderators will move this later!!!

I left here early Friday morning in the pouring rain, picked up a friend (Betty) who was attending her first ever Clay concert, then headed for daughter Amy's house (2 1/2 hours away). Amy took over as driver when we got to her, and we continued on Down I10 in the monsoon. We drove on for almost another 2 hours in the pouring rain dodging big trucks on the Interstate, going in and out of high water (as I told Amy ONLY FOR CLAY!!!!!! - I would not go through this for anybody else!)

We got to the hotel an hour later than expected, but had a little time to meet up with other fans in the lobby (which was a huge area filled with tables and chairs around a bar  :slick ) We took pictures with so many cameras - I know that Prissy has some with additional members of Claymaniacs - but here is the picture that ended up on my camera!

We all went to our rooms to change, then Amy, Betty, and I met dudley/Linda and Bozena in the lobby. Linda drove my car to Jones hall (parked in the underground parking), then we walked one block in the rain to the preparty. I was glad that we decided to go to the preparty (they are not really my thing!) because we had extra time to visit with everyone. Meesa and Marilyn finally showed up at the party, after a bad day of driving that included a flat tire and going through high water.  :hugg

We left the party at 6:30 and headed toward Jones Hall. When we entered, we got into line for t-shirts - they were better organized than other concerts I have attended. There was one central place to enter the line, then you stood there until there was an opening at one of the people making the sales!  :clap Shirts came in M,L, XL for $25, and XXL for $35. There were also posters for $20.

Our seats were very much better than I expected!  :purpbana :purpbana :purpbana We were on Row P, but we seemed so close to the stage! I am mentioning this in case Clay every plays Jones Hall again - there is really not a bad seat in the house!  They had a wonderful sound system (but the huge speakers were all at the ceiling - not good for cell certs! - and there was a Jumbotron on each side of the stage - at the ceiling). There is already so much clack up - I think the whole concert was taped - but I just have to say that it is so wonderful to have him back - he was his usually funny, lovable self. He seemed to be taking the fans' side in the "No Camera" rule. He kept talking to a woman member of the Symphony - she was sitting in the first chair vioin position, and must have had something to do with the "rules" He turned around at one point and told her "I tried to stop them from taking pictures and videos at first, too, but then I realized that they can't be stopped"  :lol I loved that he autograped the picture that sailorstarnite drew (said he was grading it, but we could tell he was writing an autograph!). He also talked to the members of the Lousiana Clay fans seated on the second Row - they had on their usual Mardi Gras feather boas. (Clay recognized them at the Jacksonville Christmas concert last December, too - he must like feather boas  :slick). I am a member of this group, and was offered a feather boa to wear, but I am just not the "feather" type!  :para  :wink :lol

Back to the concert - I thought Clay was wonderful - I was, as predicted, a puddle of goo  :goo when he sang Lover All Alone.  :cry I was not crazy about the T.V. Theme songs - I had rather of heard Clay sing full length songs rather than just little snippets - and I did not really love the Top 40 snippets either, except that Clay danced  a lot during this, so it was worth watching!  I was also VERY relieved that he left the singing of "Like A Virgin" to the girls. I had tried to not read anything before the concert, but I had read about that  :para and I had warned Amy in advance - we were both happy that he did not sing what we consider a girl's song!  Since you can watch the entire concert, I really don't have anything more to say except that I think he has never looked better - different  now - all grown up!  :notworthy

We did hear that after we left  :bang Clay came outside of the front door of Jones Hall and shook hands with fans before getting into a car/limo. Now we know that he did stay in Houston, and flew to Tulsa the next morning.

After the concert, everyone staying at the Hyatt went back and met in the lobby/bar/restaurant area. I love the Clay Nation!  By the time we got back to the hotel, there were laptops on several tables, and people were watching the concert we had just left!  :confetti2 I wish I knew how fast the concert really got posted!  :dunno We stayed downstairs until 1, went up to our room and talked until 2, and I stayed up alone unil 5:30! (Nobody would stay up with me any longer - I don't sleep after Clay concerts!)

I am still tired, but it was worth all of the trouble of getting there - I can't wait to see Clay again in Knoxville!  :cheer :cheer2 :whoot :theatre

This is my pictorial account of our weekend in Houston, etc.

Friday morning, Skip and I met JoAnn at the Pet Hospital and Kennel where we boarded the dogs for the weekend.  Because we could not get them until Monday, we decided to stay an extra day in south Texas and come back on Sunday.

We went to JoAnn and Jennie's house, picked them up and were on our way.  We did have rain on and off for the first part of our trip.

Approaching Houston, we had pouring down rain, but as we entered the downtown area, it stopped, and we were lucky that we had no rain for the rest of our weekend, just a few sprinkles.

When we walked in the Hyatt, we saw Dudley/Linda and Bozena.  Bozena said she recognized my husband from pictures I had posted.

We checked in and got our rooms.  Frankie called and when she and Amy and Betty checked in, they got the room next to Skip and me.  JoAnn and Jennie were on the other side.  We were on the 28th floor;  almost the top of the Hyatt.

At 4:00 we drove to Birropiretti's Italian Restaurant for the Pre-Party.  They had a buffet of salad, different kinds of Pizza, and soft drinks or tea/coffee.  I recognized some from the Texas pre-party there.   Near the end of the party, there was a drawing for prizes.  Of our Claymaniacs group, I think that Frankie and Amy were the only winners;  3 prizes.

The concert was just marvelous.  So different from Frisco;  much better venue, and easier to see Clay.  I don't think there is a bad seat in Jones Hall.  Skip and I sat together and had great seats on Row M, 12th row.  JoAnn and Jennie were also on Row M, more in the center. 

Clay is not only a great singer, but such an entertainer!  He is so funny.  I think, by now, you know what he sang and most of what he said.  It was a wonderful concert that we really enjoyed.  Skip and I did not think the sound system was that good because a lot of what Clay said, we had trouble hearing;  not because it wasn't loud enough, just muffled sounding, and of course, Clay talks so fast!!
But we thoroughly enjoyed it.  I especially liked the medley of TV theme songs and seeing him "dance."  (Simon, Clay can dance!!!) 

After the concert, we met back at the hotel to visit more.  Had we known Clay would come out and touch hands, we would have stayed!! :para

Saturday morning, we went down to the lobby, saw Elaine from KC, and Krista was down there, too.  Frankie, Amy, and Betty joined us there, and we all were ready to check out.  We had Amy's Cowboy Clay picture that she won and Frankie had a pink banana plant for Skip and me.

We had the valet bring up our vehicles and we exchanged picture for plant!! :lol   We got in the van and were about to leave when we saw Bozena and Dudley/Linda at the revolving door waiting for Linda's car.    We all got out to give them a hug and say goodbye.  JoAnn and I had Texas pins to give both of them, too.

We piled back in the van again, and drove around downtown Houston for a while.  There were some interesting "music" statues in the arts district and I got my picture of Clay Street, too!  :wink

We then headed south on I-45 for Nassau Bay where my niece Kristy, her husband Glen, and their baby, Taylor Lenae live.  We had a wonderful visit with them, and got to see Taylor take her first steps!!!

We were only about a half hour from Galveston, so we continued on to the coast, and drove along the beach and saw the historic downtown area of Galveston.

On the way to my niece's house, we passed a tropical plant nursery, and Jennie and Skip wanted to get a "few" plants, so we stopped back by the nursery after we left Galveston.  JoAnn and I had to check that Skip didn't take out our suitcases to make room for more plants!! :lol

Saturday evening, we checked in to a La Quinta in The Woodlands, an area north of Houston.   We had delicious steak dinners at The Outback and then went back to our rooms and played Skip Bo for a little while.  The next morning (Sunday) we had breakfast at the La Quinta;  quite a variety of food including Texas shaped waffles.  ( We really love the shape of our state!!)

We started on our way home, but stopped in Huntsville to see the huge statue of Sam Houston.  It is 67 feet tall and the world's tallest statue of an American Hero.  Sam Houston was twice President of Texas, a U.S. Senator for Texas, and helped to make Texas a state.

We arrived home at about 3:30 pm.  Another wonderful trip with JoAnn and Jennie.  And we're looking forward to Knoxville!!  Of course, we will stop in Nashville on the way and Memphis on the way back!! :wink

Prissy, I loved all of your pictures, including the ones to the nursery.  Wow, your car was loaded.  Skip must be such a wonderful man.  I think he enjoys his jaunts with you, Joann and Jenny.   You all have so much fun together.   Another great time for all of you and it included Clay!!!! 

Dudley, I enjoyed your pictures also.   You look good; all of you do.  I enjoyed seeing every single one of you; some of you I knew and there were lots of new faces too.
