Hello!

Put JoAnn and me on the list for Knoxville.  JoAnn was trying for a single ticket for me, she already had two for her and her mother, when she got Row C, Center!  So, we are going to "share" the seat in Row C.  Not at the same time, however!  :lol  I will watch half the show from there and she'll watch the other half.

I was also able to get a single ticket in Row K, Right Center, so we will "share" rows C and K!  :wheee

Hugs,
Prissy

All those attending Knoxville....do you know where you are staying?  It would be fun to all stay together if possible.  I'll see if I can find some options if no one else has any.

Marilyn and I were kind of looking around. Let me know if you find something. I know a bunch of people are staying at the Hilton, but it's a bit pricey.

As far as Hotels go, I could see the Hilton from the Box Office of the Tennessee Theatre. It's less than one block, has a Starbucks in the lobby and wireless internet. The Crowne Plaza is about three blocks away. Downtown Knoxville is quite safe especially on a Sunday night. Not a lot of places stay open on Sunday night though. There is also a Holiday Inn a few blocks away too.

ETA...from marhaven @ CV:

Quote
Crown Plaza - .24 miles from venue - abt 4 blocks, one of them long. But still less than a quarter of a mile. AARP rate is $114.00 and you can get a $107.00 non refundable through Yahoo travel.
Hilton Hotel - .14 miles from venue - my map shows it's 3 blocks, but they must be short if you can see it so well from the venue. AARP rate is $141.55 and other configurations starting about $149.00.

Can't decide what to do....thats a $28.00 difference.

They both have high speed internet access and pretty much the same amenities.

Well the Crown Plaza and the Holiday Inn are pricey enough for me...I didn't even make it to look at the Hilton prices!

I checked the Crown Plaza and it sounds pretty good and fairly close.  It also has wireless which I think most hotels have nowadays anyway.  I can get 2 Queen room for $114 w/my AAA discount.  (Meesa you can use your AARP discount too! :giggle )

The Holiday Inn also for 2 Queen beds w/ the AAA discount is $123.00.

It looks to me that the Crown Plaza is the best/cheapest option.  What do you all think about staying there?

Who all will be staying there? The more we have in a room, the cheaper it is!

And I have both AAA and AARP for discounts.  :wink

Our group will be staying on the West side of Knoxville.  We are catching a plane the next day in Nashville, and we don't want to get stuck in Monday morning traffic by staying downtown.  We don't really care much about proximity to the venue - we usually drive somewhere to eat afterwards, anyway.

Meesa ~ can you get both discounts or just one?  Our group is myself, Heather and Debbie.

Sarah ~ hopefully we can all meet up before or afterwards somewhere.  Was it cheaper flying out of Nashville?  How far is Nashville from Knoxville?

I think just one. But I can probably get 2 rooms discounted if they're booked under my name.

Nashville is about 3 hours from Knoxville, so definitely shorter than driving 6 hours back to Raleigh!  We already had our plane tickets to/from Raleigh, but luckily the airline had to make a schedule change to our flights - so we can change them without a fee.  And it actually is a tiny bit cheaper to fly out of Nashville, so we won't have to pay anything more for our plane tickets than the good rate we already had to/from Raleigh!  Are you guys planning on driving back to Raleigh?  Do you have your plane tickets yet?  What day do you plan on leaving?  Man, I'm just full of questions!

I just talked to Marilyn about flying out of Nashville instead of Raleigh. It might work out better for me too.

You can ride with us if you'd like, Ang.

Folks, Sarah is right.  Trust me, you do NOT want to drive back to Raleigh if you don't have to.  Especially if your flight is Monday!  It's interstate the whole way, but it's a long way.

Title: Re: August 12 - Tennessee Theatre Knoxville TN

Meesa ~ I have AAA also and so does Debbie so we can use that discount.  Is the Crown Plaza ok with you?

Sarah ~ I have booked my flight.  I'm flying into Raleigh on the 9th and flying back out of Knoxville on the 13th.  Thats good that you got yours switched w/o a fee.  I wish I could have!

Ang - I checked on me flying out of Knoxville and it was $300 more.  :para It's Nashville for me. I'm booking my flight into Raleigh now. Marilyn can check into it for us (the Crowne Plaza). It will be kind of expensive for just the 2 of us, but maybe we can see if someone else wants to stay with us.

Hello!

We have not made any hotel plans yet.  Right now, we have four tickets to the concert and it looks like Jennie, JoAnn's mom and Skip, my hubby, will be going with us.

We will probably make a short vacation of this trip, making a couple of stops along the way so it doesn't matter if we stay near the venue or not.  If you all get together at a restaurant for dinner before the concert, keep us informed so we can join you.

In Houston at the Hyatt, we got a special "Clay" rate and there was a special rate at the Crowne Plaza in Grand Prairie for the Nokia Concert (now cancelled)  So, if you hear of a special rate for Clay fans somewhere, please let us know.

It looks like a big group of Claymaniacs heading to Knoxville!! :clap

Hugs,
Prissy

Phil and I are thinking of driving down to Knoxville for the concert. I was shocked after my mentioning that Clay would be singing in Knoxville that he said "Why don't we just drive down there?"!    He has lots of "kinfolk" in Memphis & Chattanooga, plus he used to work in Memphis before we met  We'll probably be buying tickets on the fly, but I guess we'd better start looking for accomodations now.  Of course, whether or not we end up going depends upon how worn out we'll be from all the travelling we'll be doing earlier this summer.

In the meantime, we'd appreciate being tentatively included in any Claymanaic pre-party plans!  Thanks!

Thea

Thanks for the welcome, Clandy.  :hugg  We're looking forward to seeing you and the others, as well!   Maybe this Christmas during the pre-party the guys can sneak over to the Daly Plaza in Chicago to view a Cubs World Series trophy   :cross  :wink  (although you know we're White Sox fans!)   I was shocked when Phil said he'd like to go see Clay, but I think that the location had a lot to do wtih it.  Anyway... for whatever reason, I'm happy to be going there!

BTW, we booked a room at the Knoxville Hilton using our old fart   AARP rate.  And for $10.00 extra, you get a free breakfast.  :bouncy  Phil's always happy to get a big breakfast since I never cook breakfast for him at home!  :para  :lol

Thea,

We will get to meet after all!!  JoAnn, her mom, Jennie, Skip and I all have tickets to the Knoxville concert.

Clandy and/or Meesa,
Now, what hotel was decided upon?    Did we find one with a Clay discount?  I have AARP, AAA, and Military memberships that usually have discounts;  also the Entertainment book lists hotels, too.   It would be fun to stay where most are staying.

Also, any preparty information, too.

To the list, add,

JoAnn (and her mom, Jennie)
Prissy (and hubby, Skip)

I HAVE FOUND A NEAT RESTAURANT FOR THE PRE-PARTY FOR KNOXVILLE.
ITS CALLED DOWNTOWN GRILL & BREWERY - AND ITS TWO BLOCKS FROM THE TENNESSEE THEATRE.
I SPOKE TO JESSICA AND THEY HAVE A BANQUET ROOM SET ASIDE FOR US.
THEN I SPOKE TO DAVID THE CHEF AND HE CAN DO ONE OF THREE THINGS

PASTA BUFFET-$10.95 EACH
INCLUDES 2 TYPES OF PASTA -ONE IS ALFREDO WITH PENNE PASTA AND GRILLED CHICKEN, THEN THEY HAVE PASTA PIZZA, GARLIC BREAD, ETC. SODA IS INCLUDED

FAJITA BUFFET- $10.95 EACH
INCLUDES MESQUITE GRILL CHICKEN WITH PORTOBELLO MUSHROOMS, RICE, BEEF, TORTILLA, ETC. SODA IS INCLUDED

HE WILL ALSO DO A THIRD OPTION WHICH WILL BE 5 SELECTIONS OF THE MENU- FISH, CHICKEN, STEAK, PASTA AND ONE OTHER. THEY WILL PRINT UP A BRIEF MENU AND PUT IT BY EACH PLATE AND WE CAN CHOOSE WHATEVER OPTION WE WANT. THE PRICE WILL BE A LITTLE MORE BUT ITS STILL REASONABLE. I HAVE TENTATIVELY BOOKED THE ROOM FOR THE 12TH FROM 3-6:00 PM WHICH WILL GIVE EVERYONE A CHANCE TO GO FRESHEN UP BEFORE THE SHOW.

HERE IS A LINK TO THE RESTAURANT

http://www.downtownbrewery.com/index.html

FEEDBACK PLEASE- SHALL WE TAKE A VOTE ON WHICH MENU TO CHOOSE???

Yeh, that's weird. It shows up on my computer, but Pamela said the same thing.  Don't know why pictures are blocked.  Been in the wilderness for the last 10 days and didn't realise the problem.  Tried to repost but PhotoBucket seems to be re- formatted (or I have a computer bug).

It was just a picture of the entrance of the Tennesee Theatre.

Post Script: I think I fixed my problem. You should now see a picture of the Tennesee Theatre exterior on my previous post.r.  :cross :cross :cross

Marilyn and I need a count of who will be at the pre-party. If you know someone who is going to be there who is not listed on the first page or someone who is going to the concert but not the party, please let us know! Thanks.  :smile

Meesa - Lewis and I will be at the preparty - unless you'd rather not have husbands there! He says that he feels like he "holds me back" when he goes to concerts with me (I wonder what he thinks I would do if he was not there!  :para :lol ) Anyway - if you want to have a no husbands party, that is truly O.K. with him.

Husbands are welcome!

We are just double checking to keep track of how many will be at the party. Marilyn and I have some work to do, so we just want to make sure we have enough for everyone.

Okay I just spoke to Mark at Downtown Grill & Brewery- Nice guy!!

We tossed around a few ideas and he was into everyone ordering from the menu, but it could get messy when it comes time for payment- so this is what we worked out.

We can get an entree, salad, drinks-and gratuity is included- for approx $20-$21 per person. With that we can order any of the below

Sirloin
ANy chicken meal
Grilled Tuna
Tilapia
Any Pasta meal
Fish and Chips
Any burger

What we will do is -I will collect the money up front. We will order any of the above- when the bill comes, if it is less, I will prorate it and give everyone back equal amounts of the change.
Does that sound good? This way, we all get a variety of foods and we all pay the same
The menu entrees run from 9.95 to 11.95, then we can get house salads or caesar salads, drinks.

Please post here if this is acceptable

I ALSO THOUGHT THAT IF ANYONE WANTED AN ALCOHOLIC DRINK THEY COULD GET IT FROM THE BAR SEPARATELY, AND THAT WOULD BE EASIER

IS THE LIST OF ATTENDEES AT THE BEGINNING OF THIS THREAD ACCURATE? NEED TO KNOW HEAD COUNT FOR MEESA AND I

Thanks for all the work you have done to prepare for this.  It will be fun to see so many Claymaniacs!! :cmrox

The price and the menu choices sound great to me!  My fellow-travelers are scattered today, so I'm saying "yes' on behalf of the four of us from the midwest!

Thanks for finding a place for a Maniac gathering and a good meal!   :clap

Add us in the head count  . . . Sarah, Molly, Barb, & Barbara ! :bouncy :bouncy

Do you like vanilla cough syrup?  :giggle  That is exactly what it tasted like IMO.  :puke  One sip was enough for me!

Frankie ~ thanks, I'll get that changed

Marilyn ~ thanks for the info!  Sounds fine to me.  Can you we pay you at the party?

You're right, FRANKIE.  Not this year but hopefully next?   After our 12-day Mediterranean cruise in May/June  and then my recent Claytrekking to Michigan and California, Phil and I decided we're "all travelled out" at least for a while.

I'm sad that I won't get to meet you and Lewis this time, as well as well as PRISSY, SKIP and JENNY.  Of course, I am also disappointed to not be able to meet up again with so many of the others, but I wish you all a fabulous time!!!

I can promise you that you won't be disappointed!   :purpbana

Hello from Knoxville!

What a fantastic concert!  Clay was really  on last night and in fine voice!  I saw the first two concerts, Frisco and Houston, and you could  tell how much he has evolved.  This was the best ever.  I laughed so much.  He is just the funniest guy.  What a combination:  Drop dead gorgeous;  beautiful voice and wit that won't quit!

The preparty planned by Marilyn and Meesa was so much fun.  All the Claymaniacs listed at the top of this thread (Knoxville concert thread) were there with the exception of Lainey and Loopy.  And I did see Lainey at the concert.  It was such a pleasure to get to visit with everyone;  some I had never met in person: the delightful Wisconson Barb, Grammof6 Barbara, Invisible Touch, Molly, and Pamela's sweet mom!!  The food was great and so much of it.  And we all won a prize and had gifts from different ones, too.

Frankie's hubby and my hubby, Skip, enjoyed meeting and visiting.

We did stand in line after the concert, and Skip had our van parked near the line, so he brought water and sodas to JoAnn, Jennie, and me while we waited in the heat for Clay.  In a while; not too long, Clay came out with Jerome and several security guys.  They walked Clay down to the opposite end of the line which was more than a block long, and then quickly, Clay walked the line touching everyone's hand.

Several of us are staying at the Holiday Inn, and we all congregated in Frankie's room and visited till about 2 am.

Perfect Clay Day and Evening!

Hugs,
Prissy

PS:  We heard at the venue while waiting for the doors to open that one lady at the previous night's concert in Ashville had a meet and greet but fell and broke her arm and missed it.  Someone came out the venue door and called out her name.   She got to have her M&G after all with Clay in Knoxville.  Later on, I saw her in the ladies room and she showed me her cast where Clay had signed it Clay Aiken.  She also said he signed her item of memorabilia with, "Use your voice; not your right arm." :lol
