Hey everyone! Welcome to the first cellcert of the Clay Aiken Symphonic Christmas Tour!! Does this tour even have an OH-fficial name? The OFC tour page saysClay Aiken Holiday Symphony Appearances. Hmmm. I think we need our own name. Any suggestions? Post them here and we’ll have a poll to choose the best one. Though he laughed as he told the tale, Aiken was asked if he could do without the downside of his quick rise to fame. "Yeah," he said, "but I'm learning how to deal with it." The "American Idol" star, who celebrates his 28th birthday today, is also learning to pace himself through life on the road. Friday night's appearance at the Genesee Theatre will be the first of 18 shows in 22 days, culminating Dec. 23 in Greensboro, N.C. How will he pull off singing at the top of his register that often over that period of time? "Don't ask me how, because I've never done it before," he said. "When I did the first 'Idol' tour, we did, I think, 50 shows in about 60 days, so typically you do about five shows a week. This is six shows a week or more." Adding to the challenge, Aiken said, will be performing at each stop with a local symphony. At the Genesee, he will be working with the FullScore Chamber Orchestra. "Oh, my gosh, I'm going to tell on myself here, but we won't be doing any rehearsing ahead of time," he said. "We do have the same conductor who travels with us, but we're going to fly by the seat of our pants. (We'll) cross our fingers and hope it goes well." Aiken then joked that "people will hear that and be like, 'Oh, I can't wait to see that train wreck.'" But he added that he will have the advantage of working with familiar material, having spent the last three Christmas seasons conducting some type of holiday tour. "The first year, December of '03, I spent quite a bit of time leading into Christmas doing 'jingle jams' and (promotions) for radio stations. That did not feel like Christmas at all," he said. "But the last two years (with the Joyful Noise tours) and with a tour like this, people are in the Christmas spirit and we're doing all Christmas music, so it's kind of exciting. "What I'm really excited about is that usually you just tour with a band; this is a full orchestra, and we're really going to focus on just the music," he said, adding that he has a tough time nailing down a favorite holiday song. "It's tough because every year it becomes something different. This year, I like 'Merry Christmas With Love' and 'Don't Save It All for Christmas,' which I close the show with. And then 'Oh Come, Oh Come Emmanuel' is probably my favorite standard." I just got a phone call from LauraQ. There was NO security searching done. Everyone got into the venue with everything.......if you know what I mean. From the cellstream I am hearing that there are signs that say no recording devices, but they were able to get all cameras and recorders in, so we'll see what happens when the show starts. The orchestra is warming up right now. Actually the orchestra isn't coming in at all over the cellstream, so Meesa is just going to call back at the intermission. Conductor said Clay was coming up later and audience gave big screams. Orchestra looked tickled at that. Orchestra was very good. They got a standing O led by Ethel. Bus came in and the big screen TV was showing CNN. Crowd is pretty even mix of gender, lots of couples. Some very dressed up. Pink says a woman is in the front with a very low top who will sit right in front of Clay. They don't think the dogs are with him. No sighting of Jerome yet. The grand piano, not used by the symphony now has a player in front of it. I don't know who it is. There's a stool on the side of the piano, onle place for clay to be, TONS and TONS of Screams! Multi-Platinum Recording artist, Clay Aiken! I feel like crying. Clay is on stage again -- in front of his fans..... He sounds absolutely wonderful but I'm dying to know what he's doing to make them laugh so much!! He had them shined just for the front row people since they have to look at his shoes all night! Telling the audience how great the orchestra is and how professional they are and how he can't even read music and it's hard enough for him to know what he has to sing. They did a brief run through this afternoon. He's very comfortable singing with the orchestra...talking about where all the orchestra is from. He's extremely funny tonight. He just introduced Jesse. Said something that made the crowd crack up. Says that Jesse is his translator because he doesn't know anything about directing an orchestra. Clay says the highlight for him the last couple years has been Quiana singing MGUCL, but this year he stole it and he might think about giving it back eventually. :lol He is SO good with this song. His voice is so strong and just awesome. He got very soft and quiet at the end. Breathtaking. Talking about the other song he used to end the program with and how he's been involved in organizations and programs in the last 3 years that he is very proud of. Talking about BAF now and the locations of the camps. Now he's talking about UNICEF. He didn't know anything about it until he got involved. Okay, he trick-or-treated for them when he was a kid, but that's it. Giving stats about children around the world. He says it took him until he was about 24, but he knows now that it's better to give a gift than to receive one. He sat on a stool at times, walked around some and stood at the mic some. I guess he had a litte trouble with the glory notes in both DSIAFCD and All Is Well. We couldn't tell that on the stream, but the reporter said Clay knew he was going to have trouble before he started both songs. Good mix of patrons and Clay fans, but probably more Clay fans. Great ovation. Looked gorgeous. The suit was pin stripped. Black boots. He actually said at one point "I think I'm pretty funny" There WILL BE clack. No one came around to stop people. Although Scarlett got her camera taken away so she figures the clack is gone. The hair was similar to Snowflake hair. Sounds like it was an awesome show tonight. Clay is back were he belongs--on the stage entertaining people. We should all have wonderful Clay dreams after this. I'm going to have to go to bed and try to get some sleep. I just about fell asleep at my desk today. Could be due to the fact that I watched the repeats of Clay on Tyra both Wednesday and Thursday nights so I only got about 3-4 hours of sleep. This really meant a lot to me to be able to hear him sing tonight. I would normally have traveled to Waukegan and Merriville from Minneapolis for these concerts, however there is a training seminar tomorrow for the MN Jaycees that I just can't miss. It was a difficult decision to make, but one that I knew had to be made. So, unfortunately no LIVE Clay for Molly this year. :sad I really miss spending time with all of you guys who are there!!! Sarah had wonderful timing tonight too. I was at a MN Timberwolves game this evening, but she called while I was on my way home!! There I was speeding down the freeway listening to that glorious voice, with a great big grin on my face. The Vox sounded so strong, pure and beautiful. It was even exilerating to hear the loud cheers after the songs!! Thank you again to Sarah for thinking of me. :hugg I owe you big time!! I decided to be virginal like GWENN last night....since my concert is tonight. :shappy :shappy :shappy But when my hot flash woke me up :bang I decided to peek in after all. And I'm glad I did. Sounds like a wonderful evening, and I'm so glad everyone made it there. At 10 pm I heard on a Chicago radio station that it was freezing rain in Waukegan. We got a foot of snow here Thursday night and Friday morning. It stopped about noon. But they say the roads are still treacherous with ice underneath the snow. I hope we drive out of it soon on our way to Merrillville. If all goes well, we should be able to leave sometime this morning. :clap :clap :clap Great job Pamela, Heather, and Deanna for putting this together. Great info. I hope that he adds O HOly Night for tomorrow night...now that he remembers that he sings that song. That would be awesome. So glad he sang All Is Well. But Emmanuel remains my favorite. Losing the money, feeling deflated from the anticipation of attending, and just being plain bummed or mad...that will pass with time. What wouldn't - would be if you were injured in any way. I DO hope you get another opportunity, if not to this concert, but the next tour. (I am not able to attend this one either, due to locations and dates of the concerts, bummer, first tour I will have missed also)...
