Farewell to American Idol . . .

"It was mid-afternoon, sitting in my car, when I unwrapped the newly purchased copy of the CD – which as usual, frustrated the heck out of me, struggling as always with the ridiculous amounts of “security” tape and wrapping which my short finger nails could not overcome. The compact-disc was “The Way/Solitaire”, which by all accounts would define the success of Clay Aiken."

Clay - A Nice Guy With A Cause . . .

What a difference a week makes. Last Wednesday, the big concert draw at the Omaha Arena was Britney Spears, a flash-and-trash performer with an exceptional ability to generate controversy, on stage and off. Wednesday's star attraction is Clay Aiken, a substance-over-style singer who carefully guards the nice-guy image he developed during last year's "American Idol" TV talent competition.

"Every April, this great country stands back on National Youth Service Day in awe of the amazing contributions that young people make to their communities 365 days of the year. Statistics show that my generation, and those kids who are following us, are volunteering more than any group in American history. You might say that we are the "we" generation.

Coming in second in most contests gets you a hearty handshake and a quick trip out fame’s back door. But for American Idol’s Clay Aiken, second best has made him a winner in the eyes of a large part of the younger female population. As anybody in the civilized world with access to electricity and a TV screen is aware by now, Aiken lost the AI top slot to Ruben Studdard by 100,000 votes out of 24 million cast. By the force of his personality, Aiken turned a situation that would have made anybody else a has-been into a successful career as a singer.

Singers Show There's Talent in 'Idol' ...

"American Idol" is about as creative and artistic as filling in a pothole, but that doesn't mean that it can't be entertaining. Some American Idols - no doubt about it - can really sing, and that's clearly the case with 2002 winner Kelly Clarkson and 2003 runner-up Clay Aiken, who performed at the Wachovia Arena on Sunday night in front of a crowd of 8,000.

"Clay Mania" has resulted in Aiken generating twice as much search activity as Paris Hilton (#2). Also contributing to Aiken's surge in searches is his eight week nationwide tour of 30 cities with previous "American Idol" winner Kelly Clarkson. Aiken's album, Measure of a Man, recently sold three million copies to go triple platinum and the outfit he wore in an early American Idol round is now on exhibit at the North Carolina Museum of History. Congratulations Clay!

Aiken Not Fakin': He's the Real Deal...

A POST reader - a devoted "American Idol" fan - has been calling me a jerk for months. All because I said the debut album by runner-up Clay Aiken was a limp, sappy, mealy-mouthed exercise in bombast by a crooner whose only hope was the hype garnered as he was force-fed to America. In other words, the album was a stinker. She will be elated to learn that at the Nassau Coliseum Thursday night,Aiken, on a double bill with his "Idol" cohort Kelly Clarkson, played a concert that was startlingly good.

An Idol With Aw Shucks Appeal...

"The doughnuts are gone," says Clay Aiken. "I'm going to look for them." The "American Idol" alum is having his hair done in host Ryan Seacrest's Los Angeles studio, and he's taken a style break to speak to a reporter and have a sugar doughnut. Aiken wants a doughnut very badly. A 15-minute phone interview is interrupted half a dozen times to chronicle his search, which grows desperate. Click here to read the story!

American Idol alumni Kelly Clarkson and Clay Aiken have been taking turns headlining on their current tour...The ladies began to scream as Aiken emerged from the back of the hall, singing Mr. Mister's 1985 hit "Kyrie" as he walked through the audience. And they continued to scream all the way through his final number and latest single, "The Way."
