We all want to help Clay's CD be successful, and radio play, in addition to sales, plays an important role in that endeavor.

Please take care when communicating with program directors and DJs to request Clay's music. If we all concentrate on our local adult contemporary and pop music stations we can be more effective.

Undoubtedly there are Clay fans in every market across the US. There are also nationally syndicated shows such as Rick Dees, Carson Daly, Delilah and Casey Kasem's Top 40 that can be contacted. Many radio stations stream their programming over the Internet.

We can better utilize the power of our numbers if we deal with the stations we can actually listen to! Calling or emailing requests to radio stations outside your own listening area may actually backfire and hinder our efforts.

Thanks to Ms. Marmalade for the details!

RCA 'goes for adds' when a new song is released.
This means they get the song 'added' to radio station's playlists.

This is kind of interesting.  The site is called Jungle Scan and it tracks the placement of Measure of a Man on the amazon.com sales chart.

JUNGLE SCAN

The CD started out at number 1 back on July 4, and it's back at number 1 again three and a half months later.  It's been in the top twenty almost the entire time.  This is such a positive statement for Clay's CD!

Onward and upward!

I can't find any station in Houston that is playing Clay.  Hopefully since the CD was released today they will have no choice. The only thing I have heard is bashing him from a couple of DJs.  It makes me sick.  Let me know if anyone in Houston is finding the same thing.  Terry

I haven't heard Clay on a Houston station EVER. Now, granted, I don't listen all that much, but Kelly Clarkson happened to be on every single time I turned on the radio.  I hadn't heard Invisible until last night on Leno but don't understand why the AC stations here aren't playing it. Maybe it will pick up soon.

When "The Way" is released as a single, I imagine we'll hear it constantly. That song is destined for proms and weddings everywhere.

I don't listen to radio that much - except during my 45 minute each way commute when I'm not listening to a cd.  I do have a radio on at work, but frankly its not the kind of station that would ever play Clay.  When TITN came out I scanned all the radio stations who might play it over and over again and I only heard it occassionally on one.  So, the last few days I have had that station on at work and in my car just to see if I would hear "Invisible".  Yesterday one of the dj's talked about the cd party (I'm in the Philly area) and even said he might drop by, but still no "Invisible"!  This morning when I turned on the radio I heard "A Moment Like This", which is at least as schmaltzy as TITN - and they're still playing it.  At least a couple times a day I hear "Miss Independent".  Why won't they play Clay?  I don't get it.   TITN is the biggest selling single of the year - but it got no radio play.  MOAM will likely go platinum before too long, but no "Invisible".  Normally a song from a new album gets air play before the album comes out.  Its one of the things that make the album a hit - or a miss.  But with Clay, his cds sell like crazy and yet still receive no radio play.  Maybe TITN wasn't that "radio-friendly" (although I think its as radio friendly as "A Moment LIke This"!), but it seems to me "Invisible" is very radio friendly! I have faxed, e-mailed and called all the appropriate radio stations, but still they will not play Clay.  His cd was released today.  If any day was appropriate to begin playing "Invisible" it would be today.  Its almost 3pm here - and still no "Invisible".  How do we get him some air time?   Obviously selling lots and lots of cds has no bearing on it!

Well afterall we are talking about Philly..not the most enlightened city in the US. I know.I live here. Let them play 50 cent and all there other black oriented musicians. We buy the records..and WE are going to make Clay NUMBER ONE.

Ah, BabyBlack, I like Philly!  And music has always been a big thing here.  Remember American Bandstand? I don't think all the music they play here is "Black oriented" - at least not on the stations I listen to!  I have heard plenty of songs I would classify as pop and I think songs like "Invisible" would fit in.  Besides, from the sounds of it Philly isn't the only city where they don't play Clay!  Other than Raleigh and Charlotte, it seems he rarely gets radio play.  Like it or not, radio play is essential for his longevity in this business.  It makes money for the record companies.  It exposes his music to people who haven't heard him before and hopefully creates new fans.  In all seriousness, if Clay doesn't somehow get more air play, his career is in trouble.

If they can play Hillary Duff over and over and over, why can't they play Clay?  She's pure pop.  She's not that cool (ok, so I'm not in her demographic, but still)!  I have this station on where once upon a time I heard TITN hoping to hear "Invisible" and I hear Hillary Duff - and more than once!!!  This is ridiculous!

We must be patient...when the sales numbers come out for Clay's CD the program directors will sit up and take notice!

A request every day wouldn't hurt either.  No need to be irritating, but I call my local stations once a day whether they play Clay or not.  Just to remind them that I am a listener and I want to hear Clay.

I think we are all excited because we already love the songs, but others may have to grow to love them.  And they will!  Invisible is a great radio song; but people are still hung up about the 'American Idol' thing.

I don't know why; speaking of Hillary Duff, where did she come from?  A TV show.  Where did Britney and Justin T come from?  A TV show.  The music directors at these radio stations will eventually come around;  RCA will push the song from their end and the fans will pull the song through the channel from our end.

Persistence is the key!  And sales numbers will be the proof.  Clay will be heard.   It's going to be a great journey!  Wink:

I live in the Phoenix area and on the way to church tonight I heard a song and thought that sounds like the beginning of one of Clay's songs. It was Invisible. The DJ said we have had tons of requests for that song. It was on KKLT.

Pamela,
Out of curiousity I did a quick YAHOO seach for other sites that registered weekly Top 40 music charts.
The first 3 I hit showed neither Clay or Invisible on their charts for this week (or last). No mention either of his record breaking sales or his double platinum. No mention of Clay whatsoever. It was Beyonce, P Diddy, 50 Cent etc. How can that be? No where on the Top 40 was Clay or Invisible. Think us Claymates need to start accessing those sites and using our voting power (or is there a conspiracy going on here)?
The sites are: DAYPOP; TOP40; ROCKontheNET. Those are just the first I looked at from a long list.

Good work on finding those chart links!   There are so many charts out there it's like a maze.
That's why I tend to focus on the charts that seem to be the most important and the most influential.

Look at this one:  BILLBOARD TOP 100  ‘Hot Shot Debut!’ indeed!
Measure of a Man is Number 1 on the Billboard Top 100 Albums!

Invisible is not yet on the Billboard Top 40 Singles Chart, but it's slowly working its way up.  The most respected chart tracker seems to be MEDIABASE.

Some of the terminology they use:

Quote
Taking Off: a format-by format look at the Top 20 currents with the most new stations showing detections for the first time. Minimum of 6 detections required. Updated daily and reflecting 7-day rolling totals.

Jump!: a format-by format look at the Top 20 currents with the
most increase in spins and the number of stations playing them.
Updated daily and reflecting 7-day rolling totals.

From Mediabase - INVISIBLE:

STATS: CHR/POP (Contemporary Hit Radio/Pop_
DATE: SATURDAY, 10/25/03
TIME: 3:13 PM PST
SONG: INVISIBLE
Chart_Rank_This Week: 41
Chart_Rank_Last Week: 46
Chart_Spins_This Week: 1235
Chart_Spins_Last Week: 861
Taking_off_New_spins: 110
Taking_off_New_stations: 8
Jump_Move: +374
Jump_Stations_playing: 114

STATS: AC (Adult Contemporary)
DATE: SATURDAY, 10/25/03
TIME: 3:13 PM PST
SONG: INVISIBLE
Chart_Rank_This Week: 19
Chart_Rank_Last Week: 24
Chart_Spins_This Week: 509
Chart_Spins_Last Week: 388
Taking_off_New_spins: 14
Taking_off_New_stations: 1
Jump_Move: +121
Jump_Stations_playing: 61

Spins are up!  New stations added!  It's all good.

That said however, a few more requests on your local pop and adult contemporary radio stations probably wouldn't hurt.   Wink:

If you notice any change on the charts you found, be sure to let us know.

Just an FYI for those who live in the Phiadelphia area.... If you want to hear "Invisible" on the radio, tune into Mix 95.7 between 10am and 2pm (or is it 3pm), Monday-Friday.  Brian Murphy is the DJ on then and every day now for almost 2 weeks he has played "Invisble" during his shift.  He always comments on how much he likes it and has even said he's sure it will be the first of many hits off MOAM.  He seems to be the only one at that station - or maybe even in Philly - who is playing it, but that's something. Its a start! I try and e-mail him every so often just to thank him for playing it! In fact, he's playing it right now!

This morning I was in Home Depot buying tile for my bathroom (we are tiling this weekend, but anyways....) and while I was in there, Invisible played over the intercom  Laughing:  The first few notes played and my husband just looked at me, with a smile of course. At that point, I started claping and jumping up and down in the middle of the store because its the first time Ive heard it on the radio.  But, in all honesty, I havent been listening to the radio since I have just been "Aiken" everywhere I go. People probably stared, but my husband replied with "Dont worry.  She is Ok. Just a Claymate. "  Laughing:
