The revived "Star Search," whose first incarnation ran from 1983 to 1995, and "American Idol," its flashier, meaner-spirited Fox Network cousin, have joined with dozens of other reality shows to convince nearly everyone that they stand a chance in front of a live mike and a camera.
The shows' success has carved up the TV grid and the music industry, making Kelly Clarkson the populist equal of Sheryl Crow, or Clay Aiken the people's choice to challenge incumbent Sting. We all possess the inalienable right to imitate Whitney Houston, even if we sound more like the bodyguard. In showbiz, as in politics, sacrifice is the first step.

Oregonian readers speak out about their review of MoaM:

Quote

Aiken breakin' hearts

I am really disgusted by your recent review about Clay Aiken (" 'Measure' comes up short for Clay Aiken," by Scott D. Lewis, A&E, Oct. 17). You speak as though he has no talent and is receiving all the fan response out of pity. You can't be more wrong! You say "he sings as though his voice is restrained and restricted," and "his delivery is stiff and forced." What type of hearing aid are you using! Clay has an excellent voice and delivers with great ease and enunciation.  You say Clay sounds insincere and is over-compensating. When I listen to his music, I don't feel that. He has good, clean, refreshing lyrics and a beautiful voice. I feel that he is one of the best new artists to come along in quite some time.
You grade his album with a D+. I grade your review with an F-.
Sally Mohr, Vancouver

My daughter and I came up to Portland to the AI concert, strictly to see Clay Aiken, no one else. Clay's voice soars like no other I've ever heard, gives me goosebumps.  His new CD is wonderful and the sales will prove it. The review by Scott D. Lewis makes me ashamed to be an Oregonian.  Sandra Workman Crow

Clay Aiken Nears Platinum Status With Debut CD
Singer Returns To Raleigh For Christmas Parade
November 6, 2003

RALEIGH, N.C. -- Clay Aiken's debut CD "Measure of a Man" is just 20,000 copies short of selling 1 million.

Aiken's CD went on sale Oct. 14 and has sold around 980,000. It is currently listed third on the Billboard Top 100 chart, after holding the No. 1 position for two weeks. Outkast's "Speakerboxxx/The Love Below" is No. 1 on the charts, followed by Rod Stewart's "As Time Goes By."

Aiken's CD features his former No. 1 single "This Is the Night" and his latest single, "Invisible." "This Is the Night" sold 912,000 copies.  Aiken continues making appearances on national television to promote his album. Thursday, he performed "Invisible" on the talk show "Ellen."
Aiken will serve as grand marshal of the Raleigh Christmas Parade Nov. 22. He will also be in Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade, which airs at 9 a.m. on NBC.

This is great!  Numbers are still trending up!   The best way to keep the chart rank on the upward swing is to continue to request Invisible at your local stations and vote on the national countdown programs.

A listing of those countdown programs can be found in the radio play thread in the Got Clay forum.  There is also a quick link reference in The Polling Place forum!

Thank you all so much for your efforts!

Thanks to airplaycentral.com for the numbers!

This is just a fun site I came across, so I thought I would share it with you.

YES NET is a site that will tell what any listed station in any listed town is playing at any certain time.

So when are listening to the radio, and a song comes on you haven't heard, and you like it; you can go here and find your city, your station and select the time, and it will tell you the song and the artist that was playing.

Cool.

Clay's video for "Invisible" is slipping.  Yesterday he was at #2 on TRL.  Today he is back to #3.    Just an FYI.  Let's try and get him to #1

 :)

I'm confused about voting on TRL, i live on the Pacific Coast and i keep hearing that you have to call at a certain time to vote, but the time seems to vary between people. Is it 12-12:30, 2:30-3 or 4:30-5, or something else for pacific coast?
We all need to vote to get Clay up to #1, but we need to know how first...  :(

I feel bad.  Every day, I have been posting the TRL voting info.  But today, I failed to do so.  GAH!     That's okay, number 3 is fine, but we'll have to kick it up a notch next week!  Here is the voting info, which I promise I will post every day from now on!  So please check the daily Aiken News Network thread, or, the voting info is also in The Polling Place thread in the Got Clay forum.  Whew!

VOTE FOR INVISIBLE ON TRL!

Vote online all day!

You can only call in thirty minutes prior to the show.
TRL starts at 5pm EST, so that means you can call from 4:30pm-5pm EST, and then adjust for your time zone.

The phone number is 1-800-DIAL-MTV (1.800.342.5688)
CALL from 4:30pm - 5:00pm (Eastern)
CALL from 3:30pm - 4:00pm (Central)
CALL from 2:30pm - 3:00pm (Mountain)
CALL from 1:30pm - 2:00pm (Pacific)

If voting by name (option "1") enter 2-5-2 (C-L-A)
If voting by video (option "2") enter 4-6-8 (I-N-V)

Remember, everyone is calling at the same time so don't be
discouraged by a busy signal, you will get through!
You can call and vote THREE times PER PHONE LINE/PER DAY!
IMPORTANT: The first 10 minutes is the easiest time to get through.

Thanks for voting!

So Natalya, you would vote from 1:30-2:00 pm Pacific time.  But trust me, it's hard getting through.  It's like a bad flashback from AI Tuesday nights... shock:

PS-I love your sig line.  Good for you!
