I remember the black security man in the picture with Clay shaking hands.  We were in the first row in the lower bowl and he must have passed by us a MILLION times!
A GREAT concert!!...

He looks scary but I hear he is very nice.  A lot of fans have met him and Clays says that he is oe of his best friends, so he must be a sweetheart.

I've had two close encounters of the Jerome kind and got to carry on conversation with him in one of them--shook his hand, messed with his suit lapels, laughed and shared secrets! He's a sweetheart and when I told him, "You know, Jerome, you've got a great job!" he answered wtih a wink, "Oh, believe me, I know that!"

He does take his job seriously, though, so when he gets his "work" face on, that's what I think. He's determined to protect Clay--whether it be from jerks or just overzealous fans---and I'm glad for that.

I tend to think of Jerome like a "guide dog" Know how their little jackets will say something like "Please don't pet me, I'm working."? Well, when Jerome is with Clay, guiding him here and there, escorting him, etc., he's like that guide dog with the sign asking people to leave him alone then. BUt when he's NOT "on duty"; ie, when Clay's not around him, he is VERY approachable, friendly and fun.

I'm a little late with this post because hubby & I took an extra day to go to the mountains after the Greenville concert--gotta make sure hubby has a good time on these trips so there will be many more of them!

I wish I had known so many Claymaniacs were going to be there!  Would have loved to meet you all.  I knew Lainey was supposed to be at the Amerisuites where we were so I kept wearing my Clay shirt hoping to attract attention from other Clay fans there (which I did!) and all were so sweet and quite enthusiastic but none were you 'Maniacs!  (Maria, I had written down your seat # but they wouldn't let me down on the floor to try to say hello--but I tried.)  I was on the side with a sign that said "Clay Live! Makes My Perfect Day"--did anyone see my sign?

Did anyone else mention the incredible thunder and lightning outside the venue while we were waiting for the gates to open?  Now we're talking some dedicated fans here!  And I met several women who had traveled there all by themselves to see Clay--they were not going to be deterred even if they had to go alone.  One from Mobile, AL (about a 7 or 8 hour drive) and one from Atlanta--I continue to be impressed with the dedication of Clay's fans to him (well deserved, but still impressive).

Clay was wonderful, and that aqua blue shirt for the first set looked absolutely Dreamy on him!!  There were so many highlights,  and Clay continues to be such a natural performer with his audience.  It's all been covered but I have to add my two cents that the part where he was looking for a dancer on WYSYLM was hilarious--people were going nuts wiggling around trying to entice his pick but Clay, the self-declared non-dancer, looked at the "tryouts" and disappointedly said "now just this *demonstrated clapping side to side while stepping* is NOT dancing--you've got to do better than that!"  The dancer who was selected was Amazing!--she truly strutted over and started doing a shimmy on Clay (almost like the old "bump" dance) that was excitingly close to him and she really had a groove on!  I actually thought she might be a plant--she was that good!  So I liked reading her post from RHT--her performance was great, and her pointing out her shirt and Clay's (we'll have to do a lot more than dance for me to marry you) was a real laugh!  She was so good and so enthusiastic--so much fun.  And the girl who was selected for the harmony on TITN did beautifully!  She acted so shy you thought she might not be that good, but then she opened her mouth and wowed us all!  I had seen Jerome on the sides "scouting" before the show began and saw lots of people going up to him and giving him gifts & notes (assume they were for Clay), putting leis on him, etc.--he's getting to be a celebrity too.     A truly terrific show--still on Cloud Nine!!

Hi cassms,
Thanks for your post.  I was there.  (Did you catch my post under guest?  I posted wrong...)  I was there and I had forgotten about the "we'll have to do more than dance for you to marry me" comment.  I can't believe I forgot that.  I laughed and laughted because I thought it was so funny.  I guess there was just too much more that went on...
I have connected with a coupe of people that are going to Knoxville next month.  If you go, we are meeting at the top of the ramp before the doors open.  I am going to sugest that we wear the yellow ribbons that Fays requested we wear.  That will help us recognized one another.
Hope we see you there!

hey cassms... the incredible thunder and lightning (and rain) outside at the Greenville concert was just weird.  At least the weather outside didn't affect the performance inside...it was great! :D
