What's Playing Where You Are?

I WILL CARRY YOU
Clay's fifth single and fourth from Measure of a Man goes for Hot AC adds on July 12 and CHR/Pop adds on July 13. So, to get primed for this event, let's talk radio again! Don't worry, it will be fun.
:
This will likely be the last single from MoaM. The Christmas CD will be out in November, but the next (non holiday) CD is not scheduled to be released until Spring or Summer 2005.
MoaM just dropped out of the top 200 albums for the first time since it's release last October. Considering we have a year to wait for another (non holiday) CD, it's paramount that IWCY earns strong radio play.
If it drops out early, we will not hear Clay on the radio again (aside from some Christmas music) for a year. That's a year people. Fifty two weeks, three hundred and sixty five days. This is not acceptable!
:
Here's where Clay stands on the radio today.
Solitaire is now #24 on the
Radio and Records
AC chart.
There are 25 stations playing Solitaire, 20 playing Invisible, one playing This is the Night and one playing The Way.

i see where WRRM is still playing it. It's the only station i can hear. WSNY, the other AC/Hot AC station, isn't playing it...and they never have played it. WLQT isn't either. if those two would play it along with WRRM, that's 3 powerhouse AC stations right there! Sheryl Crowe is played on all three...so isn't Dido, Uncle Kracker, Shania Twain, and mostly everyone else on the AC chart.
I see where Solitaire has lost it's bullet again, down to #24 without the black circle around the number. Then Celine Dion...i thought she had retired or stopped recording. Her song looks like the biggest mover...
so, here's most of the problem: LeAnn Rimes, Seals and Crofts, and another debut single...plus the Celine song getting more airplay time...plus Kim Locke's song is at #15. They haven't let up on Groban's song either. Although it's #7, it still commands high airplay too. Then Michael McDonald...his song has been on the chart forever and it still has it's bullet!! Lionel Richie collects another Top-10 AC hit with "Just For You". Martina McBride moving #5 to #2...and on and on. With the exception of Clay and Groban, nearly every song on the chart is mid to up-tempo.
i'll cross my fingers and hope that by not having IWCY be a commercial single in stores, it'll help it become a good sized radio hit...and land near the AC top-10 or even higher.
what causes a song to be on or off a Top-30 list? this question has also been asked already: what is too much requests and what is too little? it's hard to believe ClayFans who live in those station's listening area's aren't requesting him enough to keep him on a Top-30 list!? that doesn't make sense.

Oh geez...WSRS. My hometown station. It SUCKS. It plays two Clay songs, apparently, so that sorta redeems it.
I really hope releasing ANOTHER MOAM song won't sink his popularity like a stone. I personally think he should stop riding that album for so long. Meh, who asked me.

I'm hoping that Canada will start playing something of Clay. I request it on station that play the more mellow type music but I have never heard anything yet. It doesn't make sence that our YTV had the video at #1 for forever but you still don't hear the songs !!!! Hopefully, I Will Carry You will get some play here.

IWCY should be the last single from MOAM. Since it arrives in July, it'll be given the standard 3-4 month life-span at radio. Afterward, it'll be time for the publicity for his holiday CD in October to start up. IWCY will be the song "on the charts" during his solo tour, of course...if RCA doesn't issue a Christmas single, i could see where they
might
squeeze out one more song from MOAM in late 2004 and by the time it peaks in early 2005, publicity will be building for his MOAM follow-up...that's how i see RCA planning the road ahead.
well, WSRS
does
play "Solitaire". a lot of ClayFans would love to have their hometown station playing it...what makes the station "suck"? is it the DJs? it can't be the music they play since Clay's fits in with it.

WSRS plays the same bunch of songs. I never heard Clay on it whenever I listened to it (Not in my home, but at the orthodontist's, dentist's, 8th grade art class two years ago).
I hear the same bunch of songs. "Man I Feel Like A Woman," mostly. Also Nickelback's, "Who I Am," or whatever it is. Lots of the same songs over. And over. I just can't stand it. It might just be because Clay is really the only pop singer I like...I listen to WICN, the local jazz station all the time.

I listen toWSRS 96.1 & I do hear Invibible& Solitaire at least once a day (sometimes more). Sometimes they play The Way. Between 12-1 and 5-6 you can call up & request a song I usually do& they play it. I have even called the station other then those hours & they are usually good with satisfying my requeset.

Majic 95.5 in Austin, TX is playing TITN and Solitaire.
They are fairly friendly towards Clay lately and even made a show of acknowledging all the support they've been getting from the fans in the area.

WELL, PHILLY WILL DO HER BEST... 8) UNFORTUNELY, THERE'S NOT MUCH CLAY PLAYED IN THE PHILADELPHIA AREA.. :( I'VE BEEN LISTENING TO A WILMINGTON, DE STATION FOR ALONG TIME SINCE IN THE PAST THEY HAD PLAY CLAY TWICE A DAY.. BUT HAVE STOPPED AFTER EARLY MARCH.. I HAVE ONLY HEARD SOLITAIRE PLAYED ONCE.. I HAVE REPEATLEY CALLED IN REQUESTS AND EMAILED THEM..AND ALL THEY SAY IS THEY WILL DO THEIR BEST. I THINK IT'S SINCE THEY'RE ARE A CLEAR ONE CHANNEL WHERE THE PROBLEM LIES.. AGAIN, I WILL CALL FOR IWCY. AND THE PHILLY CHANNELS NEVER PLAY CLAY..
LOVE YA

I just got finished talking to the DJ on WSRS, his name is Tom Holt. Very, very nice man & I asked him if they can play Solitare. I also asked him why Solitaire is it not played a s much as Sheryl Crow, Uncle Craker & mentioned a few others---he also agreed many more request for OMC then the other artist. He said he does not have any control, wish he did Because he would play CLAY more then just once or twice during the day, but he has no control.
He also said something to the effect that they will be making them pull Solitaire off the regular Play time, also mentioned that he does not always agree with what the industry does.
He told me that certain stations do a test on songs & that is how they make some determinations on the play of songs or if it should be pulled.
Still this makes no sense at all to me. With CLAY'S fan base it should have passed any test a radio station put it thru. I am very confused by all of this:?
I AM MORE CONFUSED NOW THEN BEFORE
I AM LISTENING TO THE RADIO AS I POST THIS & TOM HOLT JUST SAID, "I HAVE A REQUEST FROM ANGELA, SHE WANTS TO HEAR CLAY AIKEN'S, SOLITAIRE" :) WELL I FEEL A LITTLE BETTER NOW.
I am Still confused :?
Thanks if anyone can make sense of what this DJ meant---please explain away.

====================
this is perhaps an indication about IWCY coming out in July but he didn't say anything.
all i can say is have patience. if Clay gets more requests and yet the airplay doesn't reflect it, we all know what's going on here. the industry as a whole doesn't want an artist like 'Clay Aiken' to be popular. By having low airplay, which has an effect on sales, they can get away with saying he doesn't sell a lot and therefore they aren't playing him. it's an old excuse and don't be fooled by it.
do you all remember the comment made by a radio person/critic about us? the comment was something like: "they are determined to make Clay a star no matter what". if they already have their agenda to keep Clay off the radio as much as someone else, it sort of downplays his popularity if you know what i'm talking about...they're hoping the ClayFans out there will give up and "not request him". i fully believe that requests for Solitaire cracked the radio deadlock...because they wouldn't play that song on their own. It's too good, but too sad at the same time.

Somewhere lately, (don't know if on this board or another) I heard that IWCY will be played on Christian radio also. In fact they seem to be very receptive to adding it to their song list. IWCY is very appropriate for that venue. So Clay will be introduced to another whole nother section of people. Everthing helps . . . . . .

i read that too. someone posted that they actually heard the song on a Christian radio station. i thought it was a fluke because on Sunday mornings the AM music stations here air gospel music...they play legitimate gospel and other forms of gospel, too, like the country singers who've sung gospel songs...so it isn't just acts who are marketed "gospel" or "contemporary christian" that are featured...
they haven't announced that's it going to any Christian stations. Perhaps it will after it's run on the AC chart is over with??

====================
that's correct!! if it weren't for us, Solitaire wouldn't have even been issued anyway...so, under the circumstances, a #23 AC peak is quite good and it's all because of us.
and if IWCY has much success with radio, that combined with the requests for it from us, it should peak higher than Solitaire. i'm still having a hard time picturing IWCY on top-40 radio. it's only a formality that they issue the song to Pop stations...it doesn't mean it'll get top-40 airplay! so i'm not expecting much from them.
if i were in charge of top-40 radio i would stop playing hip-hop and return the format to "pop" music with actual singers instead of screamers and chanters. if rappers cry foul, they can form their own radio station or whatever. i get sick when i see a 6 or 7 year old girl praise someone like Ja Rule or the Notorious BIG-FAT or whoever it is...so those acts would be the first to take a hike if i were in charge!! by doing this i'd put control back to the parents/adults instead of letting the children control their parent's pocket books. it's the adults who have the money and so it puzzles me why it seems that it's the children who are getting joy from the radio...
those so-called "hip" foul mouthed rock acts would regret the day i took over things!!
a man can dream!!
