Clay Aiken Fans Collect Pennies for Foundation

Quote
Ambitious internet fans of RCA Recording Artist Clay Aiken have planned a grass root fundraiser to take place at pre-concert parties across the nation during Aiken's 50+ date tour.

(PRWEB) June 25, 2004 -- Clay Aiken’s internet fans have launched a penny drive in conjunction with his first national solo tour. Penny Lane is a grass-root fundraising initiative to benefit The Bubel/Aiken Foundation. Beginning on July 6th, 2004, in Bismarck, North Dakota, and continuing in most tour cities through St.Charles, Missouri, in October 2004, fans are asked to bring their spare change to pre-concert parties in each community. The donations can then be deposited into designated collection containers. Total donations from each stop along Penny Lane will be counted by volunteer teams and the amount will be updated at http://members.shaw.ca/pennylaneproject throughout the tour. The grand total will be given to The Bubel/Aiken Foundation at the conclusion of the tour. For more information or to find out how to participate in your community's event, please visit http://www.tbafforum.org/index.php?showforum=15.

Those who do not have a Penny Lane event in their community may still count up the contents of their piggy banks and make a donation to the BAF through Paypal to pennylaneproject@shaw.ca . Alternately, monies can be mailed to Penny Lane Project, 331 East 20th Street, North Vancouver, BC CANADA V7L 3A8. All checks and money orders should be made out to The Bubel/Aiken Foundation (with Penny Lane in the memo line).

Aiken fans of all ages and abilities are invited to make change count! Aiken’s broad, multi-generational fan base includes persons with disabilities, non-disabled, tots, grandmothers, and all ages in between. Everyone is encouraged to take part, if even in the smallest way, and make a difference.

When Clay Aiken first auditioned for the FOX television series, American Idol, he expressed desire to use his celebrity status to make a difference and to inspire people to “think, feel, love, act.” So far, Aiken’s followers have stepped forward to fulfill his wish. In August 2003, by means of an on-line donation drive, his internet fans contributed over $42 000 to the newly established Bubel/Aiken Foundation for individuals with Special Needs. During the Labor Day 2003 Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA) Telethon, Aiken’s internet fans gave over $30 000 in his honor. Many other fan projects strive to include individuals with special needs and to promote awareness of the Bubel/Aiken Foundation. Multiple book drives, CD drives, and toy drives arranged by Clay Aiken fans have benefited many schools, libraries, churches, military families, soldiers and communities. Some of these projects can be found at http://www.thebubelaikenfoundation.org/showcase.htm

The mission of The Bubel/Aiken Foundation is to provide services and financial assistance to facilitate fully the integration of children with disabilities into the life environment of those without. The Foundation will create awareness about the diversity of individuals with disabilities and the possibilities inclusion can bring. Through collaborations with the disability, education, entertainment, and media communities, the Foundation will recognize those whose commitment to breaking the stereotypes attendant to the developmentally disabled has broken barriers and extended the boundaries of the human experience for all.
