Some people claim they DON'T watch the Super Bowl, but they cannot be trusted. They are the same people who try to seem superior to you by bugling the fact they do not own a TV. The kind of people who take insane pleasure in claiming they have never heard of Clay Aiken.

HOUSTON – As today's kickoff draws closer, parties are spreading faster than mosquitoes in a Houston summer.

Existing in the same stratosphere is the home of John and Rebecca Thrash, who threw a charity-benefit bash for Best Buddies. Paris Hilton dropped by and, like everyone else, got to gaze at the marble floors, valet parking and mini-red carpet with spots reserved for the likes of CNN.

American Idol runner-up Clay Aiken lounged on a couch in a brown pinstripe suit and said the rise from obscurity to Super Bowl party circuit was "neat." Then, like a Hollywood vet, he repeated, "No questions, no questions." The kid is a quick study.

FOX WIELDS A BIG CLUB CALLED AMERICAN IDOL

Idol will have a shot at being the top-rated series [for the season], particularly if it builds in the same respect it did last year," says John Rash, a senior vice president at Campbell Mithun advertising agency in Minneapolis. Interesting isn't it that in most American Idol talk it is Clay and Ruben rather than Ruben and Clay.  It really is true that although Clay didn't win he really is the star.  I know we feel it here, but it is really nice that the world seems to feel it too.

As somebody said at the beginning of the Super Bowl yesterday, "Tomorrow every team will be undefeated".  So I say:  THIS IS THE YEAR FOR THE CHICAGO BEARS! ("da Bearsssss").
