IMO Kris would have been better off to go first.  This performance is rather anticlimactic.  And I absolutely love Kris, but this song isn't for him.

      It seemed like Kris was damned by faint praise. Going second may not
       have been wise!. It worked for Clay though.

I don't know that it was a question of going first or second. I can see why he wanted to close out the show, to leave the audience with a strong impression. I think he was wise to do that, rather than go first and let Adam have the final number.

They are so different, and both can have very successful careers. I think Adam has the "louder" stage presence, though--which makes it harder for a more laid-back performer like Kris to compete against him head-on.

Sounds like the performances were about even. Like several of you have said though, Kris and Adam are so different, it is going to be tough with them competing against one another.
