HERE'S BUTTERFLYSHINE'S REPORT OF CLAY'S AWARD..

He was saying that so many others have done the important work before him, that he was late to the party in terms of the ground work towards acceptance of GLBT

here is my scribble on the intro and Clay's speech:

great privilege and honor to introduce the next honoree...platinum recording artist, NYT best selling artist, touring...

all incredible things...we are honoring him....he was a special education teacher...undying commitment to children...shown time and time again...TBAF and UNICEf....reason for honoring...2008...became a father...and he did the most important thing that any GLBT can do, he told the truth about he was, he showed his son to live a life that is proud and truthful is the only way to live...and for that is why we are honoring him...

2009 FEC award...lots of applause...beautiful speech

honor to get the award...he is late to the party...he didn't do all the work...showing the world how GLBT families can be...that work has been done by the many in the room...the honor goes to all in the room...

A Philly newspaper mention about Clay.

That's what Clay Aiken got to do way back in Season 2, perhaps not as dramatically as Boyle did in the first round of "Britain's Got Talent," but more than once over the course of the season.

With all due respect to Adam Lambert, last season's Carly Smithson and other contestants with more professional experience than Aiken came in with, "Idol" was better television when it was less of a pro-am event.
