Thea - hope you are not getting sick, either. I will keep you in my thoughts and prayers tomorrow as you have your mamagram. I hate to hear that about your Mom. I also hate to tell you that my Dad had the same problem with his hip replacement - kept slipping out of place. It turned out that his surgeon had put the wrong size artificial hip joint in - it was too small for my Dad - he had to have the surgery done again   I hope this does not happen to your Mom. The wedding and your dresses sound beautiful - I'm looking forward to photos.

Yikes, I'm still up . This is late for me!!!  Laughing  FRANKIE, thank you for your good thoughts and prayers about my mammogram tomorrow.  Huggles The good thing is that they will give me the results immediately instead of making me wait.  That's one of the courtesies they offer to breast cancer patients.  I'll be sure to let everybody know how it goes.

And thanks so much for sharing your Dad's experience with the hip replacement surgery.  I wouldn't be at all surprised if this is what has happened to my mother.  Oh, well if she has to have to surgery once again, we will all get through it.  I just feel so bad that she might have to face all of the pain and physical therapy that she already has gone through.  Again, I will keep all of you posted.

I just talked to my 2 sons today.  The older son getting married is so happy right now.  However, my younger son is now starting to get really frightened about his qualifying exams for his PhD coming up in October and November.  I spent about an hour trying to calm him down and reassure him that life will be fine whether or not he passes them.  He can always find an excellent position with the credentials and college degrees he already has.  However, I'm pretty sure he'll pass them, but you never know.

We all have to learn to deal with the many changes life brings us every day, don't we?  I think each of us here can cite numerous examples of that in our own lives, for sure!

On that note, I think I'm finally off to bed.  Thanks for listening to my rambling.   Blah blah blah

AC - We have a Dell computer that has XP Professional on it. When I lose a post, I am just typing away, look up, and my post is gone.

Thanks for the explanation...I can say that that has only happened to me a few times at Claymaniacs. I would be in the middle of typing something and then the page would simply vanish. When that happened to me I later found out it had happened to everyone because the site had gone off-line without warning and we all went to the Claymaniacs 2 site as a result. So it must be a computer connection internally with some computers. I know not much about computers...mine is an eMachines with Windows XP. I've never upgraded to the Vista program...i'd read too many negative things about it so I decided to hold off until a version comes out without the kinks and bugs because if something happened to me while on the computer I don't have a family member with enough credible knowledge to bail me out Oh! No!

I love our commentators also as the information they provide is very interesting and love the comments.  Rod Allen is one of my favorite commentators...

In this part of southern Ohio, the broadcasters of Cincinnati are who i'm more familiar with. During the off-season of the Cincinnati Reds, their long-time broadcaster Joe Nuxhall passed away. He had been a former pitcher and started doing the baseball broadcasts in 1967 and remained with the Reds as a broadcaster on through his 35th year in 2002, going two more years before going into semi-retirement in 2004. In the last several years before his death last year he only did a few of the "home" games and didn't travel with the team anymore. Marty Brennaman became a broadcaster for Cincinnati Reds in 1974, taking over for Al Michaels, who got the chance to become a national broadcaster...the same Al Michaels of MONDAY NIGHT FOOTBALL and now SUNDAY NIGHT FOOTBALL fame. This is Marty's 34th season broadcasting the Reds games...his son, Thom Brennaman, often does the Reds games with his father, making them one of the few, if not the only, father-son broadcasting teams in Major League baseball. Thom did several baseball broadcasting jobs throughout the 1990's. He was with the Chicago Cubs as a broadcaster for several seasons and then the Arizona Diamondbacks plus he was part of several World Series games. Marty, on the other hand, was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 2000 based on his broadcasting work. Five years later he was inducted into the National Sportscasters and Sportswriters Hall of Fame. He is opinionated and I found one of his quotes about the Chicago Cubs fans...and how they behave in the ball park as seen through his eyes...this is from April of this year...

"This is the kind of thing, quite honestly, right now, that makes you want to see the Chicago Cubs team lose. Among all baseball fans, and I can't attest to the Yankees or Red Sox, because we don't see them with any degree of regularity unless it's inter-league play, but far and away the most obnoxious fans in baseball, in this league, are those who follow this team right here. Throwing 15 or 18 balls onto the field, there's absolutely no excuse for that, and that is so typical of Chicago Cubs fans. It's unbelievable."

Later...he was interviewed by the Chicago media...here's that story...

On April 18, 2008, Brennaman appeared in an interview on a Chicago, Illinois sports radio station in which he reinforced his position on Cubs fans, and compared Chicago Cubs fans to rival St Louis Cardinals fans...

"If they can't understand what happened Wednesday night was completely over the top, then I'm sorry," Brennaman said. "I said how tough it is to root for the Cubs. I think a lot of people feel the same way I do, but they won't articulate it. I'm not afraid to say what I think. Compared to Cubs fans Cardinals fans are hands down the best in baseball. They respect the game. They don't go to the game to do stupid stuff. The Cubs have some great baseball fans. But the ones who act like idiots ruin it for people like me."

AC,
The Cowboy's have had three frustrating preseason games.  And even though they won the last game, just barely, I hope that when the real season starts, they will start a winning streak.  I do know they are purposely playing new recruits to see who they must eliminate.

bigsmile I couldn't tell you how the Bengals pre-season has been...i think they won the last exhibition game? The thing i'd never understood is why do they have these pre-season and exhibition games? You mentioned as well that they purposely play newcomers to see who'll they'll eliminate...but I thought that was what practice was for? Informal practice where the team is playing against themselves and whoever doesn't look too good doesn't make the team. I suppose, though, in order to accurately determine a player's talent they must play an opposing team to make the newcomer "feel" like they're in a big game to see how he'll perform...at least that's what makes more sense to why they have these pre-season games. Anyway...it's almost NFL time officially!!

I agree with everything you said about record producer and young artists.  Look what happened to Kelly Clarkson.  She fought Clive on everything, pratically wrote all her songs on My December and it got bad reviews and the sales didn't compare to her other cds.

It's something that has been a constant in the music industry for years and years. An artist wants complete control over his or her career...and I was saying, unless the artist has a commercial sense, then an artist should never have complete control of their career because they won't know what to do with it. There's an argument amongst the music elite to where "commercialism" comes across as some sort of bad word...in other words, the more commercial a song is written, the more synthetic the song feels. I don't buy into all of that...a song can be commercial and have some elements of integrity to it. However, there are songs out there that are shameless in their commercialism. I follow country music way more than anything else and on country radio a song called "Bob That Head" by a group called Rascal Flatts is at the top of my list for songs represent shameless commercialism. It's nothing more than a display of electric guitar work than anything else. There's another song out by Kid Rock that's on country radio of all places, it's a song called "All Summer Long" where it basically samples the rock band, Lynyrd Skynyrd, and their signature song "Sweet Home Alabama". The Kid Rock song would be another case of blatant commercialism...but be that as it may, some people like those kinds of songs. I think that Kelly Clarkson got too ambitious and couldn't accept and enjoy her success...it's almost always the case that a successful singer goes through some sort of identity crisis because he or she doesn't feel like they're being themselves up on the stage with the material they're singing. It may be true in some cases depending on the age of a singer, but a lot of the times in my opinion it's just an excuse for a singer to gain control of their career just for the satisfaction of saying "i'm in control now" like it's some sort of statement of pride...then suddenly once the singer gains control of their career it goes downhill because they had no expertise in commercialism.

wave This plays into the conversation about how record producers who are successful think...it's a short quote from Billy Sherrill who spent years at CBS/Epic Records...

Quote
Billy Sherrill's thoughts on . . .

• Willie Nelson's Red Headed Stranger album — I heard it and said, "It sounds like a bad demo." But they had to put it out, because it was in Willie's contract that he had the right to put something out if he wanted to. So, we went ahead and put it out, and it sold a whole lot, and the rest is history. I told Willie later on, "When I miss, I miss the heck out of it." Anyway, that album really grows on you.

• Writing and recording "Stand By Your Man" — I don't know why that idea came to me that way. I'd heard "Stand By Me," by Ben E. King. I had a sheet of paper, and on it I had written "I'll Stand By You" and "Please Stand By Me" and all kinds of titles. One day, I was in bed and I just thought, "Stand By Your Man," and the other stand-bys just flew right out the window. When we worked on the song, it was just Tammy Wynette and me and the piano, and she hit that note at the end and I knew it was going to be good. She told me, "You know the terrible thing about this?" I said, "What?" She said, "You can go home and do what you do, but I'm going to have to sing this the rest of my life and hit that high note." But that was the song, so it had to be done that way. Of course, I suppose I could have had her do it in a lower key.

• The differences between Tammy Wynette and George Jones — Tammy took to things immediately. She was the fastest learner I ever worked with. You wouldn't have to sing something to her but once. Jones had to go off and live with it, but it sure was worth it when he finally sang it.

• George Jones' Donald Duck voice — He just about drove me crazy with that thing. If he had to say something that he was afraid to tell me, he'd have the duck tell me. I mean, he was in the Twilight Zone, man. He'd say, "I don't like that song," but he'd say it in the duck's voice. I'd say, "Well, Donald, you might not like it, but we're going to do it anyway."

• Working with Elvis Costello on the Almost Blue album — I never was a fan of Elvis Costello. I thought he was a terrible singer. And Bonnie Garner buzzed me one time. She was on the Willie Nelson fringe. She said, "Elvis Costello is doing one of your songs down in Studio B." I said, "OK." And then she said, "He wants you to hear it." I said "Oh, (crud)." The song was one I wrote called "Too Far Gone." I didn't like his version at all. She said, "He wants you to do an album on him." I said "No way." She said, "You could do it probably in a couple of days, and his last album sold almost 800,000. I said, "Book it." That was Almost Blue. We did some crazy things on that album. Elvis told somebody I was the most insincere person he'd ever dealt with. He said I didn't give a (darn) about the music. He's used to overdubbing, hanging out. I'd just leave, and he'd get mad. I guess I was too lazy. I didn't want to work that hard. But the thing is, Elvis would have already worked this thing out with his band, in a hotel room somewhere, every detail. And by the time he got to the studio, there wasn't really anything a producer could do except sit there. And that wasn't fun. Especially if that producer wasn't really enjoying it.

• Choosing the single to follow Charlie Rich's "Behind Closed Doors" — All the times I'd been producing Charlie, he'd drive in from Memphis alone and check into a hotel and come over and we'd go over songs. After "Behind Closed Doors" hit and just exploded, and the album sold millions, I knew there would be another single from that album, and I had in my mind what it was going to be. This time, it wasn't just Charlie who came into the office, though. My secretary called and said "Charlie and his people are here." Here comes Charlie's bodyguard. And here comes his manager, Seymour Rosenberg. And then here comes Charlie. He comes in my office, picks up a Billboard magazine and starts looking at it. And Seymour said, "Here's what we've decided." He said, "There's a song in the album called 'Peace on You.' That was a song Charlie wrote. He said. "We think that would reach more of an audience than any of the country-flavored things on there. That should be the follow-up to 'Behind Closed Doors.'" I said, "Oh." He said, "So we've got a deal?" I said, "No, we don't have a deal. Number one, 'Peace on You' is a piece of (expletive). Number two, 'The Most Beautiful Girl' is coming out of that album as the next single, and that's just the way it is." Charlie just sort of peeped over the Billboard magazine and said, "I told you he'd say that."

• The last great country song he heard — The last song I heard on country radio I had to pull over and stop and listen to was Tim McGraw's "Please Remember Me." I swear, I thought, "Somebody has stolen one of my records." The way McGraw sang that thing was just like magic. And it was so great the way everything fit: the arrangement, his voice and the song.

I think oversea's letters are a little over a dollar to mail. Stamps I think are 42 cents i think. It's been awhile since i've bought a stamp. I usually take my mail into the office area and have the person behind the counter put the stamp on the envelope. I send off for things so i've never paid any attention to what the price of a stamp is because i'm usually buying money order's at the same time. I know that when i mail things to Canada, which is considered international mail, it's pricey depending on how quick one wants their letter to arrive.

GLORY: Yes! I was on the site this morning without a problem. I was posting some things on my AC REVIEWS page about Ray Stevens.

Woodstock: We were suppose to get rain but we never got any here. We're getting the side effects from the rain storms...the high winds. Yes!

Well I posted a large post to AC, Carol, Frankie, Woody and Prissy and I came home and I see it isn't here.  I don't know what is going on with the site but think I will step back for a while till it is fixed.  Haven't gotten over losing a weeks worth of posts yet.  I thought things were supposed to be okay if we had our out site and it seems like there has been so many problems lately.  Off I go to fix a big spaghettin dinner!!!

I just wanted to let you know the results of my mammogram.  More lesions were found so I have to undergo yet another biopsy tomorrow.  I've had a couple since my battle with breast cancer, so I have hope that this will be just another false alarm.

Tomorrow I will be undergoing a procedure called a steriotactic biopsy.  They will put me stomach down on a table with holes in it (use your imaginations  Laughing), and then hoist me up about 7 feet in the air.  The doctor will then proceed to perform the procedure and get the tissue to the lab.  They will then be giving me the results Wednesday afternoon.  I'm grateful I won't have to wait any longer than that for the results.  Just want to get this over with and then get ready to face whatever lies ahead.  'Been there, done that and can do it again, if necessary.

I would appreciate your good thoughts and prayers.  Thank you.

 wave

We have had a great day away from the house - they were grouting the floor in the main hallway and in the kitchen, so no one could walk around. To tell the truth, I needed a day away from the construction site!

Pepe - sorry you lost a post - it can be so frustrating - Michael may still be having problems with the site. Until lately, I have not had this problem. Lewis took me out to lunch - a restaurant here that has a buffet every day for lunch - just homecooked food. I had a green salad, and a whole plate of vegetables and a piece of cornbread - the fresh vegetables were so good. (But you can send some of that spaghetti down here now, if you want!  Laughing )

Woody - you must be having a nice dinner out with your Pastor by now!

Meesa - thank you for the morning photo!

Betty - I'm glad that you have lolita's address in the Phillipines. I hate to go to the post office. I go to the USPS.com site - you can click on international postage, put in your location and the letter's destination, and it will give you the amount of postage (of course you need to know the weight of the envelope).

Glory - hope the chiropractor helped you today.  Huggles

AC - I still have not had time to go CD shopping - I really need to get that done.

Splitting up my post again, just for safety's sake!  Paranoid

Marlene - I am glad to hear that Roger can finally eat. If you are not going to use that baby food for a diet,  Laughing donate it to your local food bank. From working at one in the past, I can tell you that no one ever thinks to donate baby food, and it is very badly needed!

Carol - as you see, I am trying the split post method again - hope it works this time, too!

Kat - No Homework!!!!  Clapping Purple Banana

Thea -  Huggles Huggles Huggles You are in my prayers. I know you have been through this before, but I hate that you have to go through it again. Prayers that everything will be O.K. this time, too.

We did go out to the house to feed the Gumbo and Rice and the ducks. I took a couple of garden photos while we were there - I'm going over to the garden thread, if they are good enough to post - haven't checked them yet.

See all of you later!
