Two quick comments, as my mind is mush after all of this travelling yesterday and today!

1. "Listen" sung by Clay and Quina was beyond perfection and sublime artistry....It was pure magic!!!  They transported us to a place you are seldom taken to at a "pop concert".  I am still floating on Cloud 9 reliving those few moments.  Clay's star shone very brightly last night.  Now I remember why I am such an ardent Clay fan!

2.  soapbox IMO, Miss Ethel HAS TO GO!  Frankly, I am losing patience with the usual Clay/Ethel banter.  She made not one, but two, very clumsy and ANNOYING attempts to keep the spotlight on her.  All I could think about while she was standing in the front rows cavorting about and making typical Ethel "cracks" was that she was disrupting the flow of the show and has definitely lost whatever appeal she once had.  IMO, Clay needs to tactfully ask her to put a sock in it from now on!  soapbox

Other than that...................LOVED, LOVED LOVED, the low-riding jeans, blue shirt and the nice "rear views"!!!   wow  I'm so grateful to have another chance to see him California!  JOHANNA, you're in for a treat, my friend!   Huggles

P.S.  The Red Thong Mafia ladies are the absolute best and  wow do they know how to throw a party .  Amazing food, great beverages and friendship abounded!!!! I heard nothing but positive comments from some of the non-Claymaniacs who dropped in to our bash!!!!   claymaniacs rocks

"I need help!!!"

« Reply #228 on: July 25, 2007, 12:02:55 AM »

I should be in bed....but wanted to write my recap while it is fresh in my mind.  I will try not to be too wordy.

First of all, I will admit that when I first saw the set list....I really wondered what kind of concert it would be, and why Clay was singing some of what was on that list.

wow  NOW I know.  I couldn't have been more pleasantly surprised.  This is a GREAT concert, everyone.  For those of you that have already been, you know exactly what I am talking about.  For those of you yet to see a concert....you are in for ONE GREAT time.

The venue was very nice, and our seats were about in the middle of the center section, which we were happy with. (Thanks, Thea!!!)  Claymaniac113078/Cindy and I sat together.  That turned out well, because we are both criers, and we were SO moved at many times during the concert that there was plenty of that going on.   Wink

I must say that EVERY song from ATDW was SO much better live.  I think it's because Clay puts everything into each and every song at his concerts.  He DELIVERS, that's for sure.  I heard someone say that he has matured so, and it is true.  To sit there and be part of the experience is beyond words.  During one of the banter moments, Clay was saying how he doesn't quite fit in with the current pop out there.  Well let me tell you, I would have paid any amount of  money to see HIS concert than ANY other performer out there right now, whose tickets would have been FAR more expensive.  His concerts are an experience to remember.  I don't think most other artists come through like Clay does.  He is AMAZING.

As a side note....2 of my children went to a concert on Sunday of 3 or 4 of the current rock/pop groups.   Their tickets were more expensive.  And what did they say???  It was just OK.  I don't believe ANYONE has ever said that after a Clay concert, and certainly not this one.

Since so much has been said of it already, I will comment on his clothes for the evening.   Wink You've all seen the pictures already.  He looked so pulled together with the jacket on when he came out.  I liked the look.  OK, so we didn't get any tummy because his shirt was tucked in.  But OMG, we got the tight jeans.   blush  He kept saying his jeans were too tight, and we were all thinking, YES, Clay... we've noticed.   Thud!

Here You Come Again is a song I really like...so it was a great opening for me, and it was GREAT.   I leaned over to Cindy and said....I LOVE this song.  I must have done that every song....because by the 4th or 5th song....she leaned over and said....aren't you going to say you LOVE this song???   lmao How can you not love them all when THAT vox is delivering them.

Everything I Have, I Want to Know What Love Is, and When I See You Smile were all wonderful.  As I said, he puts SO much into each and every song.

The theme song medley, although I am not that crazy over all those songs, was better than expected. He made it fun!!!  Imagine that.   Wink

These Open Arms was amazing. He sang it with his arms open at many points, and you just wanted to run into those arms.   blush

Clay opened the second half with A Thousand Days.  I LOVE his performances of that song.  I will admit that to me, none will ever top his performance of that song on JK.  When I found out later that he was not going to continue singing A Thousand Days at these concerts, I was SO happy to have been there to hear it live.

As I said...ALL the ATDW songs were GREAT, even ones that are NOT my favorites.  But Without You was just awesome.  He REALLY belted it out...and hit all the notes like the pro he is.  It was so moving to me....I can't wait to get the clack, but I have a feeling I will never stop watching it!!!

I was SO pleased he included MOAM, because...you got it....I LOVE that song.  He sang it beautifully.   Thud!

I honestly don't remember which song he sang that he went through the audience.  See...I should have taken notes.  He climbed up the stairs and was about 3 rows behind Cindy and me.  He STOPPED up there and was singing.  Cindy was hyperventillating....I thought I would have to hold her up.   Laughing  She said she had never been so close to Clay, and she was SO excited.  (Little did she know she would be closer later...)

The banter before the "classics" medley made me sad in a way.  Clay was trying to explain why he chose to do this medley. He made it funny, of course.  He said he knew he didn't fit in with the current pop.  I kind of felt like he was a teen trying to fit in somewhere when he said that.  I had told my daughter which songs he was singing in this medley before I went, and she was very surprised.  WELL, let me tell you....this was probably the most enjoyable part of the concert!!!  He was making fun of himself, in a way, with his dance moves that mimicked the original artists on these songs.  He had us screaming and laughing at the same time.  But he proved ONCE again, that he can sing ANYTHING!!!  ANYTHING!!!! (I had to repeat that....) Just LOVED it.

We had a treat that I don't know if any of you will get at other concerts.  Angela was under the weather, so as you know, Clay and Quiana sang Listen as a duet.  OMG OMG OMG....is all I have to say.  I think Quiana is SO very talented.  And Clay BELTED once again....Together, they brought the house down.  I was awestruck, as I am sure most of the audience was.  SO SO SO beautiful, I just don't even know how else to describe it.  Tears were falling BIG time now.  I think thte whole audience was speechless after this one, as we all had our mouths open in awe.

I am not the biggest fan of Lover All Alone.  I know.... tomato tomato tomato  But I have GREAT respect for this song since Clay wrote the words....and from his heart, I am sure.  I loved him talking about it.  And he delivered it in the ballad style we all love.

Because You Loved Me....what a PERFECT song choice for his last song.  I wouldn't have known it from reading the set list.  But remember during the (which tour was it  scratch ) that Clay sang The Way and said that was his personal message to all of us???  Because You Loved Me is his personal message to us this tour, THAT is for sure.  He is acknowledging that we love him, and it is because of us that he is where he is and able to do what he loves.  If you don't get a frog in your throat or a tear in your eye during this one, you are probably dead.   Laughing  No, seriously, it is a message, not just a song on this tour, and I thought it was PERFECT.

After the concert, we lined up to wait for Clay.  As we have heard, he has been taking time to shake hands.  WHO ELSE WOULD DO THAT NIGHT AFTER NIGHT?????  After Jerome walked up and down 3 or 4 times and reminded us about flash photography and that we had to be single file....yadda....and a wait of only about 30 or 40 minutes  (who was counting?)  Clay was escorted down the line that must have been about 3 blocks long.  For those of you yet to go....he doesn't linger.  He walks VERY swiftly and puts out his hands, so if you want to shake it...you better be ready.  I was ready and able   Laughing  so I grabbed one hand and then the other....even if only a second, it was a thrill.  Cindy told me ahead of time that she would faint....but she did just fine.  We were in a Clayfog after that and couldn't find the car.  Oh well....it was worth the price.

if you don't have tickets for one of these concerts and there is still one near you, I highly suggest you consider it.  If it isn't possible, GET THE CLACK!!!!!  You won't be sorry.  This was one of the best concerts I have been to.  They just keep getting better and better.

I am SO happy I am a Clay fan     and get to be a part of his wonderful talent, because there are no words to describe it to those that don't know.  But WE know, and we are the lucky ones.

I promised to be brief....SORRY!!!!!  How can you be brief when describing Clay Aiken?????

Oh Woody, you have me in tears right now. What a wonderful re-cap, I won't even bother with one b/c you caught every emition I am feeling as well.
But yes, if you haven't watched LISTEN, you must. We were there for something special and I am so happy about that. I am so proud to be a  I can't even describe it.

Thea, On the subject  of you know who Clapping Clapping Clapping Clapping Clapping Clapping it has to stop. She really put a damper on the concert for alot of people around me as well. She was in the same row but in the center as you know and it was taking everything I had not to yell at her to shut up. And after the concert, she was even worse and I was yelling at her in the bus line.
Sorry Pamela, had to get that out.

But the RTM bunch was the highlight after Clay. What an amazing group of women and I am thankful for each and everyone one of them.  Huggles What a great time we had.

So thank you to Clay b/c if it wasn't for him, I wouldn't have so many wonderful ladies in my life ! bigsmile

Mary posted her M&G re-cap in the RTM, so I am bringing it over here for all of you to see!!!

Well I just can not find where I am suppose to post my M&G experience so I will do it here and if someone knows where it is supposed to be feel free to copy it and place it where ever.
I was a little late in getting my notification because I was in NY when it came. I couldn't remember my pass word to get onto my e mail so I kept saying I would wait till I got home to check.
Saturday evening, when I walked in, the first thing I did was turn on my puter, didn't even say "Hi" to Paul. No sooner did I bring up my e mail did the phone start ringing, everyone and their Uncle seemed to want to know if I had a good time in NY. Then Paul decided to come up from the basement and welcome me home so I told him, "yeah. yeah yeah. I have got to go check my mail and see if I won a meet and greet" he thought I was kidding. NOT ROFLMAO
When I scrolled down and saw Clayonline, subject "Congratulations" I got a little excited. Then I opened it up and all heck broke loose. I jumped up from my puter chair and started my excited dance that I do, anyone who say me in Toronto, JBT, will know what I am talking about, and it ain't pretty. I was screaming "OMG," and jumping up and down, all the while hitting myself in the face and head to make sure I was awake and not just dreaming. First person I called was mcraig2 and she didn't answer, then Bisi and she didn't answer, then Becky and finally she answered, I told her and she started screaming too. I called Philly and she was do great. I then called my daughter and she was worried that I was going to have a heart attack. Paul kept telling me to calm down and I told him, "No I don't wanna calm down, this is happy excitement, and it ain't gonna kill me."
Saturday night ans Sunday I couldn't eat or sleep, my stomach was doing all kinds of weird things. Philly PM"ed me the color of the day so then I fretted even more because being a blond, I don't do yellow. I already had made a new top and got a new pair of Capri's to wear and was too out of my mind to drive to go shopping, I just wore the yellow ribbon pin on my bib and Philly told me to just tell him that I dyed my hair yellow for him, if he asked where my yellow was. ( which he did, and I did)
Getting my pass is a whole nother story but I will just say that if it weren't for Marilyn and Brenda I would have really freaked out, ( even more than I already was)  One of the other winners went way beyond nice and offered to call me when the passes were ready so the 3 of us could go to the dinner, I was so worried about Brenda and Marilyn missing it.
I will skip all the rest and now get to the best and most important part.
Jerome came to get us and said we could take in whatever we had brought to give to Clay just as long as it wasn't ticking. Took us to a tent set up with 2 long tables, with ten chairs apiece set around them. I sat on an end chair thinking and hoping he just might sit at the head of the table. Jerome gave us the rules, there were only 3. Then we waited.
Finally he he came in all his glory, the Man, himself. When he walked in, it was exactly as Philly said. All the tummy squirming, nerve jumping and anxiety, just dissappeared, and it was fantastic..
He said he does eat all the recipes in his book, someone said the spaghetti recipe was not good and he told her he was "tell'n his mama"  He did say he was crabby and tired bit I sure couldn't tell because he was handsomer than ever and funny, and charming and snarky and gorgeous, and thud worthy. He talked about taking A Thousand Days off the play list and "knock on wood" would have a new arrangement ready that night, and knocked on my head  Purple Banana Purple Banana I gasped and made ga ga eyes and Clay shook his head and Jerome cracked up. I turned and said to Jerome," I wouldn't laugh if I were you, how much weight can you lift, because if he does that again I just might fall on the floor and Jerome said" don't worry honey, I can lift you" and Clay cracked up.
More questions were asked and answered then it was time for pictures and I was called 3rd. When it was my turn he opened his arms and wiggled his finger and poof I was in the arms of THE MAN. Talk about Heaven Thud! Thud! Thud! wow wow wow
When I walk out of the M&G a bunch of the RTM'ers were standing there waiting to snap my pic to catch the look on my face.
All I can say now is that I will never bee the same. I swear to you, I have never felt so at peace, relaxed and calm in my life as I did when I walked out of there. He is truly special some how and I firmly believe he is blessed, more so now that before. It was a dream come true and I have no idea how I ever got so lucky as to be able to have this once in a lifetime experience. I hope that each and every Claymate gets a chance to experience this phenomena.
I will post my picture with him as soon as I get it.
Thank you for letting me share this with you, however there is no way in h$ll that I could ever adequately describe an experience of this magnitude

Woody - what a great review! Why does Clay have that effect? As you know, I was crying right before the Houston concert as I was trying to start the cell cert  - don't know why, except that it was just too much happy to hold in!

Mary - I have been looking for your M & G review - I'm so glad it was moved over - great recap, also, and Congratulations again!
