I DID say only Clay Aiken would make me post again today....
And no, he didn't call. More's the pity. But he did do something I'm compelled to note on my blog.

HE CUT HIS HAIR!!! *sob

As I was aimlessly browsing the Internet yesterday, trying to mitigate the boredom I was feeling while doing my blunt office work, I bumped into a Clay Aiken-dedicated blog. Reading along the blog's top entry, I found out this new song of Clay entitled "Lover All Alone". The author's blog opined that it's the best song in Clay's latest album, noting that most of the song is written by the artist. Intrigued by such comment, not to mention by the title of the song, I started downloading the song from a reliable source. Soon enough, in minutes, I got a clear copy of it. The song went...

But as its audience grays, public music education disappears from schools and classical programming fades from mainstream television and radio, many ensembles are scrambling to reinvent themselves to court a younger demographic.

Indie pop band the Decemberists will perform in July with the Los Angeles Philharmonic and with orchestras in Atlanta, Philadelphia and Chicago; the Cincinnati Pops is teaming up with funk icon Bootsy Collins, and 2003 American Idol runner-up Clay Aiken is planning a summer symphony tour.

A GENTLE REMINDER FOR THOSE WHO FIND THEMSELVES WITH SUPERFLUOUS TICKETS:

Quote
Sometimes change begins with something as simple as a concert ticket.

The Way We Make a Difference began with a simple idea - that of fostering the cause of inclusion with a donated concert ticket. Thanks to your support, over 3,150 people with and without disabilities have been able to experience the joy of attending a concert together. Some of the organizations we have worked with include Best Buddies, Special Olympics, YMCA, The Arc of the United States and Ronald McDonald houses.

Thank you for using your voice to make a difference.

If you would like to help share the joy by donating a ticket, or have any questions, please contact us at:

For GoodSearch to succeed, it will take a major grassroots effort. Please spread the word to your friends and family and ask your favorite charity or school to include GoodSearch in its next newsletter and on its website.

We estimate that each search will raise $0.01 for your designated charity or school (image and video searches are not included). For the fiscal year October 2005 through September 2006, each search actually earned 1.3 cents. The more people use GoodSearch, the more money will be directed towards your cause. The sky is the limit!

It was a nice surprise to wake up this morning to find out that Clay and David Foster were the entertainment for Governor Schwarzenegger’s Trade Mission to Canada event at the Stanley Park Pavillion in Vancouver last night. A description of what the event entailed is at this link:

Governor Schwarzenegger is leading a trade mission to Canada from May 29 - May 31. The purpose is to promote California trade and tourism, discuss ways of reducing the effects of climate change to boost economic growth and explore creative ways to finance infrastructure.

Ella Fitzgerald would have been 90 on April 25. The First Lady of Song is commemorated here by the likes of Natalie Cole, k.d. lang, Nancy Wilson, Patti Austin, Quincy Jones and, believe it or not, Ruben Studdard.

Studdard was an American Idol winner several years back, but never achieved the fame or notoriety of that season's runner-up, Clay Aiken. How Studdard ended up as part of this all-star lineup is a mystery.

Watch for some surprise guests.

Why Jordin won
By Nestor Torre
Inquirer
Last updated 00:59am (Mla time) 06/02/2007

MANILA, Philippines -- Oddsmakers in the United States generally “knew” that Jordin Sparks would be voted in as the 2007 American Idol. Why were they so sure? One of them recalls that, at the start of the finals round, Blake Lewis had odds of only 14 to 1 for the title. As he continued to survive, he upped his odds to 5 to 2 for his ultimate square-off with Jordin -- an impressive improvement!

But, Jordin was ahead of him at 3 to 1. Aside from voter appeal, what else worked for Jordin’s title bid? One, she sang the tilt’s new song better than Blake did. And, two, she may have benefited from the votes that would have gone to third-placer, Melinda Doolittle.

Why ‘AI’ pulled in fewer viewers

The “final-final” telecast of the “American Idol” used to pull in as many as 38 million viewers (during the Ruben Studdard-Clay Aiken square-off). The 2007 edition, however, was watched by “only” around 31 million fans. What gives? Why are the hit singing tilt’s fortunes “fading”?

We submit that the Ruben-Clay finale scored a record-setting viewership because the two surviving finalists were so evenly matched in terms of talent. And that the 2007 “AI” was less exciting because Jordin was obviously better champion material than Blake -- so, the relative inevitability of the ultimate verdict wasn’t the cliffhanger that makes for really huge viewership.
