Kimberley Locke Helps Auction Clothes Off 'Idol's' Back
LOS ANGELES (May 14, 2007) -- Fanjaya’s or Doolittlians who are dying to get that much closer to their favorite “Idol” or former "Idol" contestant now have an opportunity to do just that.

Former “American Idol” season 2 contestant Kimberley Locke has partnered with the Clothes Off Our Back Foundation to auction off clothes and accessories worn by a host of the Fox show’s contestants.

Wardrobe pieces from all of this season’s top 12, including Sanjaya Malakar, Jordin Sparks, Phil Stacy and Blake Lewis will line up alongside clothes from Ruben Studdard, Clay Aiken, Kimberley Caldwell and Josh Gracin for The Kimberely Locke & Idol Friends online charity auction beginning May 21.

Former "American Idol" contestant and current "Celebrity Fit Club" participant KIMBERLEY LOCKE is selling the clothes off her back -- literally.

Kimberley and the Clothes Off Our Back Foundation are auctioning off clothing and accessories worn by "American Idol" contestants and hosts, beginning at 9 a.m. on Monday, May 21 at www.clothesoffourback.org.

Wardrobe from this season's Top 12 will be sold, along with pieces from former contestants and winners CARRIE UNDERWOOD, CLAY AIKEN, RUBEN STUDDARD, ANTHONY FEDEROV, KIMBERLY CALDWELL, MANDISSA, and even host RYAN SEACREST and judges PAULA ABDUL, RANDY JACKSON and SIMON COWELL.

Also to be auctioned off are "American Idols Live" tour "Meet-N-Greets" with the finalists and autographed merchandise.

Proceeds from the auction will go to Camp Heartland, which helps children and families dealing with HIV/AIDS, poverty and other issues; the Children's Defense Fund; Autism Speaks' research division; and relief efforts in Darfur.

Idol schmata: Your chance to win finalists' clothes
We interrupt this virtual silence (Mondays are usually a crunch day at the paper for me, so I tend to blog less actively) to bring you the following news, straight from the press release. (Footnotes are mine, as if you couldn't tell.)

In the name of charity (1), AMERICAN IDOL finalist Kimberley Locke and the Clothes Off Our Back Foundation have partnered to auction off clothing and accessories worn by America’s favorite IDOL contestants and participants. The “Kimberley Locke & Idol Friends” online charity auction will begin Monday, May 21 at http://www.clothesoffourback.org/.

Bidding begins at 9:00 AM ET on favorite wardrobe pieces of this season’s Top 12 finalists (2) (Melinda Doolittle, Stephanie Edwards, Gina Glocksen, LaKisha Jones, Blake Lewis, Sanjaya Malakar, Chris Richardson, Brandon Rogers, Haley Scarnato, Chris Sligh, Jordin Sparks and Phil Stacey) as well as numerous items donated by previous IDOL finalists, including, among others, shirts worn by Carrie Underwood and Clay Aiken, one of Ruben Studdard’s 205 jerseys (3), a suit of Paula Abdul’s (4) and one of Simon Cowell’s T-shirts (5).

Additional donations have been made by Randy Jackson and Ryan Seacrest (6) as well as Locke and fellow past Idols Josh Gracin, Carmen Rasmusen, Anthony Fedorov, Nikki McKibbin, Kimberly Caldwell, RJ Helton, Mandissa (7) and Jon Peter Lewis. (8)

The auction will also soon feature exclusive “American Idols Live” Concert Tour “Meet-N-Greets” with finalists as well as autographed merchandise. (9)

WHO SHOULD STAY: Melinda and Jordin would make an excellent finale; too close to call and reminiscent of Clay Aiken and Ruben Studdard.

LemonAID sales go to special kids
RALEIGH - A North Raleigh boy is challenging children across the country to raise money through lemonade stands for the Bubel/Aiken Foundation, a North Raleigh group that helps children with special needs.
Jonathan Bunzey, 12, will have a lemonade stand at Taylor's Fine Wine & Grocery at 10005 Six Forks Road in North Raleigh from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday.

As part of the LemonAID Stand Off, Jonathan is challenging kids to have their own lemonade stand between Saturday and June 9 to raise money for the foundation, which singer Clay Aiken of "American Idol" fame co-founded.

For more information, go to www.bubelaiken.org. Click on "What's New" for details. Prizes will be awarded to the two stands that raise the most money.

Clay Aiken and the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra, Wednesday, Aug. 15,

8 p.m. -- Although the future of Clay Aiken, the American Idol runner-up on was extremely unpredictable, he surprised skeptics and burst onto the music scene with transcendently powerful voice.  An unlikely pop star, Aiken has remained steadfast in his desire to remain true to the simple values he learned as a child in Raleigh, North Carolina.  His authenticity matched by an unconventional sincerity has earned Aiken millions of fans. With a rigorous 20-city tour on the books for this summer, get ready Clay-Mates, Aiken's show at Classic Chastain with the award-winning ASO is going to be a big one!

WE'LL ALWAYS HAVE BENNETT: As the sixth season of "American Idol" is about to come to an end, another contestant from season five makes a debut on the Billboard charts. Fifth place finalist Paris Bennett shows up at No. 1 on the Top Heatseekers chart with her first album, "Princess P" (306/TVT). Paris is the 27th "Idol" singer to appear on the Billboard charts, and by capturing pole position, she gives the franchise its 122nd No. 1, counting all national, domestic charts compiled by the Billboard Information Group.

Bennett's "Princess P" also debuts on The Billboard 200 (at No. 133) and Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums (at No. 47).

Bennett is not the first person in her family to read her name on the Billboard charts. Her grandmother, Ann Nesby, has charted on her own and as a member of Sounds Of Blackness. Neither Nesby nor her granddaughter will ever forget the last time Nesby had a CD debut on Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums. The chart was for the week ending May 6, 2006. Bennett was voted off "Idol" on May 3, 2006.

Bennett's chart debut means that the season five contestants have now tied the finalists from season three for having the highest number of chart-worthy singers. Seasons three and five have both produced seven contestants who have charted in Billboard. The top seven finalists from season three have all charted, and the top six from season five, plus the contestant who came in eighth.

Here is an update on the standings of charted "Idol" finalists, season by season:

Season one: (five)
Kelly Clarkson
Justin Guarini
Tamyra Gray
R.J. Helton
Jim Verraros

Season two: (four)
Ruben Studdard
Clay Aiken
Kimberley Locke
Josh Gracin

Season three: (seven)
Fantasia
Diana DeGarmo
Jasmine Trias
LaToya London
George Huff
John Stevens
Jennifer Hudson

Season four: (three)
Carrie Underwood
Bo Bice
Mario Vazquez

Season five: (seven)
Taylor Hicks
Katharine McPhee
Elliot Yamin
Chris Daughtry
Paris Bennett
Kellie Pickler
Bucky Covington

The number adds up to 26. One additional "Idol" contestant has charted, but he was not a finalist. His name is William Hung.
