From the UNICEF site:

A beacon of hope for children

The UNICEF Snowflake is a dazzling, illuminated crystal ornament that graces the intersection of Fifth Avenue and 57th Street in New York City and Rodeo Drive in Beverly Hills each holiday season as a beacon of hope, peace and compassion for vulnerable children around the world.

This magnificent creation was designed, engineered and entirely handcrafted by Ingo Maurer and his team in Germany, using 16,000 Baccarat crystal prisms. The three-dimensional structure consists of 12 double-sided branded and is 23 feet in diameter, over 28 feet in height, and more than 3,300 pounds. The largest outdoor crystal chandelier of its kind, it was dedicated to UNICEF by the Stonbely Family Foundation in 2002.

More than a symbol, the UNICEF Snowflake is the centerpiece of an ambitious campaign to raise millions of dollars in support of health, immunization, nutrition, clean water and sanitation, education and protection for children in developing nations.

She said there was a crowd......but then I thought she said there were probably 60 people on their side....so that can't be an O-fish-ul clayaiken *crowd*

Chorus of children practicing earlier. They are wearing UNICEF caps?

UNICEF guy said "what you see is what you get with Clay, that he's the nicest guy, and that it's despicable what some people do."

Stage set up with a UNICEF emblem
Different levels of being cordoned off. Lots of UNICEF people milling around in front of them so they don't think they'll get close.

Standing in front of Tiffany's and doors just closed.

New cameras, but not identified. Snow flake suspended 50-60' right in the center of 5th ave.

Kellykellyk from the CH

QUOTE("kellykellyk")
CV Cellcert report from the UNICEF Snowflake lighting. The crowd is about 200 - 300. Apparently the UNICEF people weren't expecting that much of a crowd, so that's good. It's cold, so we may get Clay in a turtleneck or scarf. They haven't seen Clay yet. Some of the fans were talking to a guy from UNICEF who has met Clay a couple of times, and the guy say Clay is "highly respected" by the UNICEF staff and that not just anyone can be a UNICEF ambassador. The guy also talked about how nice Clay is, and said that with Clay what you see is what you get. Butterflyshines talked to some of the staff and confirmed that Clay is going to sing today.

Some technical stuff - it takes about 10 hours to put together the Snowflake and hang it. They can see a big switch that will be used to light the Snowflake.
