2. Taylor Hicks will win "American Idol."

Like most of the free world, I thought Chris Daughtry was a rock-solid lock to win the title this year, so it was shocking to see him get his walking papers last week. I think he'll ultimately end up as this year's Clay Aiken (a bigger star than whomever wins it), but the question remains: With Chris out of the picture, who will win it all?

Elliott Yamin is the best pure singer, Katharine McPhee has the most style, but Taylor Hicks seems to have the most devoted following. My personal choice would be Elliott, but I think Taylor will be last man standing when the votes are revealed a week from Wednesday.

WHILE CLAY AIKEN (especially) and some of the other past Idol stars have their staunch defenders, nobody, it seems, could care less about Simon Cowell, Paula Abdul and Randy Jackson. Although I referred to them in the column as "live-action cartoon judges," not one correspondent came to the trio's defense. Interesting . . .

Clay Aiken's Next Hit: One Arrow, Straight and True

There has been so much speculation on the boards about what will and won’t be on the album; so much discussion about whether he should lean towards new songs or away from them. Yes. No. Do this. Don’t do that. Even Clay Aiken is a part of it. It seems he’s waffling. Deciding. Changing. Going this way and then that.

For everybody knows just how important this album will be. The industry is aware that it’s often the second album, not the first, that makes or breaks a singer - maybe even the 3rd album that’s The One.

However, Clay’s case is special, because of how he’s been viewed by the media in the past. He’s been discounted by the music industry, radio’s shunned him, and he’s been around for 3 years without that massive hit that is expected of him by everyone. Because of all this, it appears to me that it’s being viewed as the make - it - or - break - it album for him.

I disagree, but who’s going to listen to me? I'm nobody important, that’s for sure. It’s not going to stop me, however, from putting in my two cents. It may not help, but it can’t hurt.

I was reading that article brought over about Clay's CD. I don't buy into that theory of "make-you-or-break you". As it was pointed out, Clay has been around in the public eye for 3 years WITHOUT a wall-to-wall smash airplay hit and so who's to say that Clay won't continue to be around doing as he's always done...touring and appealing to the ones who count in the first place.
