Hey, everyone!!!

I promised I would try to write my review on the plane, and I did so I could get it up here today.  OF COURSE IT IS LONG!!!  There is just so much to say!!!

I had never been to Mohegan Sun before.  It is very big with the hotel, casino, restaurants, and of course, the arena and other theaters.  So there is plenty to do while waiting for the doors of the arena to open.

We easily found our seats, after passing through a less than thorough inspection for our cameras and recording devices.  Despite the reports that security was tight, it was far from the truth. But the inspectors were good at making it look like security was tight.  Some concert-goers were frisked, and all the bags had to be opened.   But once my two-zippered purse was opened, the inspector simply shined his flashlight over both sides of my purse and said I was free to go. We sat just 3 seats down from a security person.  When others started taking pictures, out came our cameras, and he totally ignored us.  And he was well aware of what we were doing.

The excitement was evident once seated.  Aftr watching Clay on GMA that morning, I can't imagine a more excited group of fans.  That little taste was enough to boost the energy level considerably.  We had to wait a few minutes, as the concert started 10  minutes late.  But then the REAL excitement began.

The 50s set was VERY upbeat. The songs moved along quickly.  I thought Great Balls of Fire was FANTASTIC.  Clay was dancing on top of the piano and his voice was right on. He made that song so much fun.  He immediately changed the mood.

Clay sang Unchained Melody at a much slower pace ~ And I thought it was wonderful!!!  He sang his heart out.  Some thought the lighting was a little on the dark side. It was blue and I thought it was beautiful.  I thought it was one of the best performances of that song I had ever heard.

Next came the Elvis medley, and I have to tell you, it was GREAT.  No, Clay does not "sound" like Elvis, of course, but BOY - can he sing Elvis's songs!!!  And he had the leg shake and the hip moves down to a T.  That made it funny. And yes, he was wearing blue suade shoes.  My only disappointment was that he chose Love Me Tender to play the piano.  He was joking that we should hold our breath, he didn't know where all the pedals were.  He played just fine, but after each line he made a fu==very funny face and paused, wich was cute and hysterical. I just wish he had chosen a different song to do that with, since it is no secret I like his ballads. I would  have loved to see him sing Love Me Tender as a lovely ballad, and do the piano skit with some other song.
At the beginning of the Elvis set, he introduced Elvis as the best selling solo artist in the history of this country --- FOR NOW!!!  He drew both laughs and applause.

I am going to take a pause and finish my review a little later.

THE EPITOME OF DECORUM

Mohegan Sun- Friday July 29,2005- Claymaniacs in attendance needed oxygen, defibrillators, nitro, and other medical assistance as Clay Aiken proceeded to knock ‘em out, one by one

The set was adorable- the skipping record I wanted to go up there and shoot- but when Fonzie Clay came on with this two finger click summoned girls, and knocked on the jukebox, the show was on

The fifties medley was good- his soaring voice on “Only You” and “The Great Pretender” the Aiken voice rose to the heights and gave us chills.
“Love Me Tender”- the funny faces as he played the piano were adorable, but couldn’t hide his rich voice singing the melody- the boy is good, very very good

and ELVIS- oh my lord! With those tight pants and the leather jacket, that poor microphone stood no chance in Hades, with Clay gyrating like Elvis at his peak,  and women in the audience drooling like dogs eyeing a juicy bone- It was fantastic, it was superb, it was sexy as heck!! The moves are all that we have dreamed of in the past, and we were not disappointed folks, NO INDEEDY!!
And “Can’t help falling in love!” Oh, sing it to ME, Clay, sing it to ME!!

When it came to the 60’s medley- it went very quickly- the Monkees “Daydream Believer” was good- somehow on Downtown and “Sugar Sugar” I thought they were a little over the top in the facial expressions, Its hard to explain.
But then there was “Solitaire” and it was everything we love and more- his voice was good, he remembered all the lyrics (I love it when he sings a liTTUL hope) and the glory note was just that.

The Motown medley was good- My heart stopped when Clays microphone didn’t work for the first couple of notes (mayhap it was still exhausted from being Elvis gyrated upon)
But then the mike recovered and the medley was on. I absolutely adored the TEMPTATIONS movements by Clay, Quiana, and Jacob, while Angela sang out front- great choreography!

AND THEN WE WERE ALLOWED TO BREATH FOR 20 MINUTES- and folks, we needed every second of that time to recuperate.
I didn’t mention that at the beginning of the show, in front of us, was a young girl who had a sign. One of the employees of the venue confiscated it at the beginning, along with a couple of other signs. Not sure why that happened.
The girl said she had met Clay a couple of times- once at McDonalds, and once going into some bathroom (evidently the gender bathrooms were not present, and this one was  unisex- who knows?) She told me she would email me some pics that she was taking, as I left my camera in the car, not realizing that everyone and their uncle brought their camera’s into the show.

I also text messaged Clay during the intermission- I said “HI CLAY- THANKS FOR BRINGING US JOY- THE CLAYMANIACS LOVE YOU!! Signed it Marilyn from New York.
I did another one, and Woody said she saw both, but no reaction from anyone. Although one enterprising young lady was texting every ten seconds- she must have done it about four hundred times- sometimes the same message over and over. There were also many marriage proposals, many people expressing ..ahem!! admiration for Clays booty shaking, and all of that-
The only thing is that the jumbotron was to my right and back aways, so I suffered extreme discomfortin my neck, trying to read the dang thing!!
I had also tried to call Thea at the beginning of the show, and she wasn’t home, but I did catch her at intermission so she heard some of the show.

MOHEGAN SUN REASON FOR MEDICAL ASSISTANCE PART 2

I forgot to mention that right before intermission, Clay expressed a desire (oohh be still my heart) to have someone come up from the audience to help with some of the songs.

Well, Linda, Lorraine, Tammy and Judy were right opposite us across the floor- I could see them dancing, screaming, and beckoning to Clay to go over to their side (hmmm maybe that’s the DARK side) of the stage, and for a heart stopping moment I thought he was going to pick LINDA!! But no, just two or three rows behind them, there was ETHEL- yes, Ethel from Detroit- Charlotte Ethel- and they took her backstage during intermission------oh lord, to be that woman for just 10 minutes!!

So after intermission, she came out in a BOA and an AFRO, and danced with the backup singers. Knowing Ethel, you know how hilarious THAT was!!
Clay came out in his white suit, the same shirt as Toms River, BUT WITH NOT VISIBLE T SHIRT AND TWO ..COUNT ‘EM…TWO BUTTONS…… UNDONE.
(PLEASE HOLD A MOMENT, I AM EXTREMELY VERKLEMPT REMEMBERING THIS VISION)
I finally had Thea on the phone, and I am sure I repeated this mantra several times—“NO t-shirt- 2 buttons DOWN!!”

The 70’s medley was good, and went by quickly
And then Clay sat by the piano, and sang “MANDY” This has always been one of my favorite Manilow songs- and Clay made Barry proud. He didn’t imitate Barry in any way- He just did Clay and it was absolutely wonderful- and then it was “Bridge over Troubled Waters” and again the voice soared to the rafters and floated out over the crowd!- Another standing ovation!!

Angleic Clay in the choir robes-with his innocent eyes raised to the sky- and then the robes are ripped off and the sexy slithery dirty dancing Clay comes out, with this ripped jeans and Swayze moves!! Oh yeah, baby!!! The only down side (quiet everyone) is that most of the moves were made on the opposite side of the stage- right in front of the four Hussies!! So we had to rely on the jumbotron with our cricked necks. Next show, I will be watching more closely!! What? You don’t want me to miss anything, do you? That would be a crying shame!!

When they did the 80’s medley, Clay sang “Alone” by HEART- this is another favorite of mine. Many a time I would stand before my mirror with a hairbrush microphone- and belt out the song (albeit a little out of tune) thinking” Take that, Linda Ronstadt!! Well, Clay put us both to shame, he was soooooooooo great singing this!!

Everyone gathered around the piano for “Sailing”. I found this song to be very subdued, and I didn’t hear everyone singing very well- perhaps it was the band playing louder- and again this is not one of my most favorite songs.

The 90’s- my favorite part of this was Livin’ La Vida Loca- the boy shed his vest and threw it away, and shook his bon bon the way Ricky meant it to be shaken. – and then segued into “I Can’t make you love me” and he is so very wrong- BECAUSE HE ALREADY HAS!!!

For the 00’s there were no surprises, only old friends- I will Carry You, The Way, and When you say you love me- medleys of all and pieces of those things that made us love Clay from the beginning, and through the evolution to today.

Back for More- If they don’t quickly put this out as Clay’s new single- they need their heads examined- it is Rocking Clay at this best- and to me, it is SOOOOO radio friendly- I mean, he even mentions radio in it, for Cryin’ out loud!! And “Just for you:’ is sweet but powerful, letting the Clay VOX come out and pound you- this would make a great side two.

Do it soon, managers and producers, and I guarantee it will be one of the top selling singles of the year- IMHO!!

In summation:

Oh Praise the Lord and Pass the ammunition- Clay is finally listening- tight pants, black leather, escalated mike action, light hair, visible portions of chest, holes in pants, more booty action, more WDC action, growly, rocking, rolling, WONDERFUL WONDERFUL Clay-  and its still not enough. If I were to go to every single concert of this series- he would leave me hungering for more- because he is just that good!!! He can take any song and make it his own.
My sister, who was with me- likes Clay but is not a fanatic. She is, however, an Elvis fanatic- and she said to me “He had better not ruin these songs”
And afterward- she said “Da** he was GREAT!!”

SO I CAN HONESTLY SAY- “I LIKE HIM, I REALLY REALLY LIKE HIM

Keep it up, Clay- and leave us begging for more!!

A COUPLE OF EXTRAS:

THE QUESTION OF THE BEAN BAG CHAIRS AND THE EXTRACTION OF BODIES THEREFROM:
THE CHAIRS WERE AT THE TOP OF THE STAIRS- ALL THE SITTEE'S HAD TO DO WAS PUT THEIR FEET ON THE STEP OR TWO BELOW THEM AND STAND UP- TOO EASY

MICHAEL ORLAND PUT THIS THING TOGETHER- AND HE WAS ANNOUNCED FROM THE AUDIENCE.

CLAY HAS DEFINITELY NOT HAD HIS EARS PINNED OR ALTERED IN ANY WAY- THEY WERE HIGHLY VISIBLE AT ALL TIMES- ESPECIALLY WHEN HE WORE THE BURBERRY HAT

THE BLACK PANTS AT THE 50'S PORTION OF THE SHOW- SHOULD BE WORN AT ALL FUTURE CONCERTS- OR DUPLICATED VERSIONS THEREOF- THE VIEW FROM ALL SIDES WAS TERRIFIC!!!

THE VENUE AND TICKET STATED "NO CAMERA'S"--THEY DID EXAMINE BAGS AND SEMI FRISK PEOPLE AT THE START- BUT THERE WERE HUNDREDS OF CAMERA'S- AND NO ONE WAS KICKED OUT AS FAR AS I COULD SEE ( OF COURSE, ME BEING ME, I LEFT MINE IN THE CAR! )

QUIANA SINGING "I WILL ALWAYS LOVE YOU" SO RICHLY DESERVED HER STANDING OVATION- THE WOMAN HAS A POWERHOUSE VOICE WHICH GAVE YOU GOOSEBUMPS- AND HER VERSION WAS SO MUCH BETTER THAN WHITNEY HOUSTON'S.

DANNY THE GUITAR PLAYER NOW HAS BLONDE HAIR- DIDN'T RECOGNIZE HIM AT FIRST. THE YUMMY DRUMMER FROM LAST YEAR WAS NOT THERE- NEW DRUMMER SEEMS PRETTY GOOD.

CLAY ALWAYS, ALWAYS, AKCNOWLEDGES EVERYONE IN HIS BAND, THE BACKUP SINGERS, AND THE CREW!! WHAT A GENTLEMAN!!

I AM SURE I HAVE FORGOTTEN MOST OF THE THINGS I SHOULD TELL YOU- BUT IT WILL ALL COME BACK WHEN I AM READY TO SLEEP, I AM SURE!!

WHEN ETHEL CAME UP ON STAGE SHE SAID SHE HADNT BEEN THE SAME SINCE SHE GOT LEI'D- I THOUGHT CLAY WOULD BUST A GUT- AND HE SAID SOMETHING ABOUT DEFINITELY NOT A FAMILY SHOW!
SHE ALSO KNOCKED THE MICROPHONE INTO HIS MOUTH AND HE ASKED HER TO CHECK AND SEE IF HIS TOOTH WAS CHIPPED!!

AND HE ALSO MENTIONED SOMETHING ABOUT HER T SHIRT SAYING "CLAY AIKEN" (IT WAS A FAN CLUB T SHIRT) AND HE SAID SOMETHING LIKE "I HEARD THAT GUY WAS SEXY!! "AND THEN HE STARTED CRACKING UP!!

I wholeheartedly agree, MARILYN!!!  After watching my recording of Clay singing BFM on GMA, I am so optimistic about the success of this song!!!  My humble prediction is that it will skyrocket to the top of the charts with mega-airplay!!!  Some may say that he's compromised his integrity as a vocalist in this song, but who cares?????  He definitely exhibits mass appeal with his performance of this song!!!!

AND MARILYN, ONCE AGAIN.....THANK YOU FOR THE CELLCERT!!!!!!  IT MADE MY WEEKEND!!!!

Mohegan Sun Review - Part 2

I never got back to the computer at my sister's house.  I will finish my review now, MUCH later than I had planned.  It is a good thing I don't write for a newspaper.  I would always be late, and my reviews would be too long!!!  I would be fired, for sure!!!

The 60s set began as a medley of popular upbeat songs also, all well sung.  It was followed by Solitaire.  He did a wonderful job, hitting the Glory note, despite all the singing he had already done.  He did sing a condensed version leaving out part of the second verse.  He left out: "And thru the night, his lonely night, his eyes are closed, his heart is broken....And by himself it's easy to pretend, he'll never love again."  I'm glad he chose Solitaire to sing again.  I love that song!!! This was followed by a Motown medley.  For me, the highlight was Quiana singing "Midnight Train to Georgia".  She did a great job!!!

The 70s section followed an intermission.  Again, an upbeat medley was followed by slower songs.  Clay did a GREAT job with both Mandy and BOTW.  BOTW was the version he sang on AI2, which leaves out the second verse.  It was wonderful to hear him sing this live!!!  He hit the beautiful glory note, once again!!!

The 80s began with When Doves Cry, which I believe was even better than in the IT, if you can imagine.  The dancing was a little sexier, too!!!  The 80s set ended with Sailing.  Although Clay sang it well, IMO Christopher Cross's distinctive voice added something to the song.  For me, it was good, but I think they could have chosen a better ballad from this era.

The 90s had the usual medley, and highlighted the backup singers. The highlights to me were "I Can't Make You Love Me" sang BEAUTIFULLY by Clay (have I said that before...) and Quiana's outstanding performance of "I Will Always Love You".  She received a standing ovation from most of the crowd for this one!!!

In the 2000s set, we heard favs from MOAM.  I Will Carry You, The Way, and WYSYLM, which he notoriously forgets some words on.

The end of the show highlilghted his 2 new songs.  Back For More, as heard on GMA, is an upbeat, catchy song that we were already singing along with. I predict good things for this song.  Dare I say RADIO PLAY?????  We all agreed that the clever use of the RADIO references may make them notice.  It has the pace and catchiness to make it a radio hit.  Just You was also wonderful.  More of a ballad, but also some faster parts.  A good combination.  If I had to choose which one I think will be the hit, I would have to say "Back
For More".

Clay ended with Invisible, and he did it in the bouncy way we have always enjoyed.  It was FUN for all.

I must say, this is the best concert of his I have gone to. His voice was strong, and sounded very mature.  He hit his notes, and proved his versatility ONCE AGAIN, and more dramatically than ever before.  It was beautiful, heart-warming, and great fun, all in one package!!!

Bravo, Clay Aiken, for a performance WELL DONE!!!!  I can't wait to come Back For More!!!!!!!!

I AM CONFUSED- THEY SAID HIS PRIOR SONG WAS VANILLA AND BLAND, YET WHEN HE REVS IT UP A BIT HE IS COMPROMISING HIS INTEGRITY? WHAT THE HECK IS THE POOR KID SUPPOSED TO DO? THE SONG IS GREAT, AND ITS CLAY SINGING IT, NO ONE ELSE!! GEEEEZ!!

I'm not sure what I can say about the concert that hasn't already been said!  Marilyn and Debbie, you both have pretty much covered it all and I agree...Clay is fabulous on this tour.  Absolutely, hands down, fantastic!

I enjoy all different kinds of music, so this tour for me is just awesome.  Clay is so versitle and can do all genres so well.  It's great to watch him go from singing a song like "Love Me Tender" to "Livin La Vida Loca".  All of the songs on this tour make you want to get up and dance, get up and have fun.

The little things that Clay throws into a show, like the involvement of the band as part of the "act" instead of just being the in the background and the little details like the blue suede shoes, show how much thought goes into his shows.  He comes to entertain and that is exactly what he does.  From the minute you see him come on the stage to the last note of "Invisible", he has you completely engaged.

I can't really pick a favorite part of this show.  There is nothing in the show that disappoints me...it all makes me want more.  I am certain that I missed something the first time around.  There is so much packed into this show, it is worth it to see it several times.  As if we need a reason to go more than once!   Laughing

My advice is that if you haven't already planned to go to one of the Jukebox Tour shows and there is one close enough for you to get to...GO!  You will not regret it.  I've seen Clay many times, but just like fine wine he gets better the longer he is around.  I think this is the best I've ever seen him.

MY FRIEND KATE HAD TO DRAG ME OUT OF THE ARENA WITH ME BABBLING ON ABOUT HOW AMAZING HE WAS AND HOW CUTE HE LOOKED AND HIS DANCING AND HIM LOOKING AT ME!!!!!!!!!!! AND I ALSO HELD MY PROGRAM CLOSE TO MY HEART! THIS WAS THE 4TH TIME I HAVE SEEN  CLAY IN CONCERT AND I HAVE WALKED OUT SPEACHLESS BEFORE WITH MY LEGS TREMBLING BUT THIS WAS SOMETHING ELSE. THIS WAS BY FAR HIS BEST TOUR EVER!!!! HE WAS AMAZING WITH ALL THAT HE DID. I WAS SOOOOOOOO LUCKY TO HAVE HAD TO THE CHANCE TO SEE THIS TOUR. (AND NOW THAT I DID MY SUMMER IS COMPLETE!) BUT IT'S SAD THAT I CAN'T GO TO ANOTHER ONE. JUST HAVE TO WAIT FOR THE CHRISTMAS TOUR I GUESS!

EVERYONE HAS SAID IT ALL ABOUT THE CT SHOW BUT HERE ARE A FEW MORE:

WHEN CLAY WAS LOOKING FOR SOMEONE TO COME ON STAGE WITH HIM I STARTED JUMPING UP AND DOWN LIKE A NUT! HE SAW ME (WE HAD PERFECT VIEW OF HIM! OUR SEATS WERE DIRECTLY ACROSS FROM THE STAGE!) AND HE SAID "YOU THINK JUMPING UP AND DOWN LIKE THAT IS GONNA GET YA ON STAGE?" HE JUMPS WITH ME! AND WE ALL LAUGH. IT WAS SOOO AMAZING. THE BEST FEELING IN THE WORLD TO SEE THAT CLAY NOTICED YOU! EVEN THOUGH I DID NOT GO ON STAGE IT WAS GOOD ENOUGH THAT CLAY SAW ME. AND KATE KEPT SAYING HE WAS LOOKING OUR WAY SEVERAL TIMES THOUGH OUT THE SHOW!!!! WELL YOU COULD NOT MISS US WE WERE THE ONLY ONES IN OUR SECTION DANCING TO ALMOST EVERY SONG AND SINGING TO THEM ALL AND YELLING THINGS OUT TO CLAY! THIS WAS OUR PLAN - AND IT CAME OUT BETTER THEN I THOUGHT IT WOULD! Purple Banana

DURNING THE LAST SONG "INVISIBLE" HE POINTED AT ME!!! I WAS LOOKING AT THE SCREEN AND KATE SAID "CLAY IS POINTING AT YOU!" SO I LOOKED AND HE WAS. SO I POINTED AT HIM!!!! AND WE WERE BOTH SINGING ALONG TO THE SONG- IT WAS AWESOME! I'LL NEVER FORGET IT! SO I GOT CLAY'S ATTENTION SEVERAL TIMES AND IT WAS THE HAPPIEST I HAVE EVER BEEN IN MY ENTIRE LIFE. HE MADE MY DAY, MY WEEK, MY MONTH AND SO FAR MY YEAR! THANK YOU CLAY AIKEN!

I ALSO GOT TO MEET 2 MEMBERS OF THE BOARD AS WELL - CLADY AND WOODY. WHO ARE JUST AS SWEET IN PERSON AS THEY ARE ON THE BOARD. IT WAS GREAT MEETING THEM!

AND WHEN WE WERE WAITING TO GO IN JACOB CAME OUT AND I WAS TOO BUSY ARGURING WITH MY AUNT ABOUT MY CAMERA THAT I DID NOT EVEN KNOW THAT HE WALKED BY; B/C IF I SAW HIM I WOULD HAVE TALKED TO HIM BUT NO. BUT HE DID BRUSH BACK KATE'S SHIRT! I WAS FREAKING OUT! JACOB JUST TOUCHED KATE'S SHIRT! THE GUY WHO WORKS WITH CLAY EVERYDAY! IT WAS SOO COOL. BUT I WANTED TO BE HER FOR THAT ONE MOMENT!

SO THE CONCERT WAS AWESOME. I WILL NEVER EVER FORGET THIS EXPERIENCE. ALL OF THEM WERE AWESOME!

IT WAS THE BEST CLAY CONCERT EVER!

I LOVE YOU ALL!

AND THANK YOU CLAY FOR SUCH AN AMAZING SHOW! YOU ROCK!!
