Carrie just performed in front of a large crowd on the Today Show and they were really into her music. She was very relaxed, and one lucky young fan was photographed with Carrie while she patiently waited for it to be focused. I think that she's going to be a popular American Idol and a good example for preteen girls to follow.

Her "Inside Your Heaven" / "Independence Day" (Arista) makes a premature debut at No. 1 on Billboard's Hot Country Singles Sales chart, based solely on street date violations. "American Idol" winner Carrie Underwood hits No. 1 on the Hot Singles Sales chart, as "Inside Your Heaven/Independence Day" scans an impressive 130,000 units. That moves the single 5-1 on the chart following a premature debut last week because of street-date violations. The same sort of early sales bring "Idol" runner-up Bo Bice onto the chart this week at No. 6. Underwood also manages a No. 4 bow on Hot Digital Songs with "Inside" logging 39,000 paid downloads. With traditional single sales and digital downloads -- along with radio airplay -- feeding The Billboard Hot 100, Underwood is all but a virtual lock for a No. 1 bow on that chart. (The Hot 100 is compiled on Wednesday afternoon, and at press time, the chart had not been completed.)

Commercial single sales numbers for Carrie and Bo:

Carrie sold 30,325 copies of her commercial single this past week, in the #1 spot on the Hot-100 Single Sales chart. That's a dropoff of about 27% from last week. That brings her 5-week total to 333,288 copies sold (should be about 1K less, I think, because her 2nd-week tally was adjusted down somewhat).

Bo sold 29,170 copies of his commercial single this week in the #2 spot on the Hot-100 Single Sales chart, down 27% from last week, bringing his 4-week sales total to 235,984 copies sold (it should actually be a few thousand less, because the cumulative tally wasn't adjusted when his first-week tally was adjusted down).

Neither of them is in the top-50 for digital downloads, so both sold less than 7,744 copies digitally.

Carrie is singing for Hershey bars!

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) - "American Idol" winner Carrie Underwood will sing classic jingles in a new television ad campaign for the Hershey Co.

Underwood, a native of Checotah, will sing "sometimes you feel like a nut ... sometimes you don't" for Almond Joy and Mounds. She also will sing "give me a break" for Kit Kat and "Hershey's is ... the great American chocolate bar."

Having Underwood sing the jingles gives a modern twist to the candy, Jay Cooper, Hershey's vice president of U.S. chocolate brands, said recently.

Underwood, 22, also will be a spokeswoman for Skechers, a California sneaker maker, in an ad campaign.
