Please use this thread to discuss the recent news about the hacking of our website and the move we will have to make to new software.

Thanks,

Michael

This is unbelievably sad.  I can't stand the thought of losing all the information we have in Claymaniacs.  The births and deaths of loved ones and all the memories written in word over almost seven years .   How horrible.

Wow. How terribly sad.

I know next to nothing about web site management, but is there a way to save the threads/posts/etc. to a computer? Burn to a CD or something? That way they wouldn't be lost forever - they just wouldn't be a part of ClayManiacs' online presence.

This is a shame, but unfortunately things like this have become a common occurence in our society.  We will simply have to salvage what memories we can and move on.  Such is life.  I am sad, but I know we will be fine come what may.

Michael, thanks for explaining this to us so clearly.  Speaking for myself, when it comes to computer issues, I need to have things explained to me in the plainest and simplest of terms.  :lol

GLORY, you bring up a very good point about PayPal accounts possibly being hacked into.  Yikes!  I'm glad I used a check to  make a donation this time.    :para

P.S.  I am going to keep a very close watch on my credit card, checking and PayPal accounts in light of this new security problem.  It only takes about 10 minutes a day to check every day.

Michael - I don't even pretend to understand things that go on behind the scene of a website and it is a shame to lose so much information, but I trust that you will do what is necessary to protect us and make sure we have a new home.

Clay is at a new beginning in his career and it looks like we will have a new home to take us along for the ride.

Title: Re: The future of Claymaniacs.com
Post by: fhmmany2 on March 15, 2010, 05:40:48 PM
This is such a shame - I will keep a watch on my PayPal account, also, because that is how I made my donation. I know you can print favorite threads (I printed both threads when I won my meet and greet - before and after my M &G). You can also copy and paste things that mean a lot to you to your own computer.  Glad we have a little time to copy birthdays, email addresses, etc. We will lose a lot, but at least we have the memories..................

EDIT - I just thought about the ANNs - I thought they would always be there in case anyone wanted to look back on Clay's career - it is sad that all of that hard work will be lost.

I think many of us used paypal to send a donation in to the site, right around Feb 13th, that  concerns me as I did also. Michael, any thoughts??

Sharon - I have paid for some things thru PayPal since my Claymaniacs donation, and, so far, no problems with my account - maybe we all need to contact PayPal about out concerns??? I will wiat to see what Michael thinks.

I do not use paypal, but always send a check,  For those of you that do, I hope you have no problems.

I have been busy all evening copying some things I want to save.  I just copied all of the birthday poems  (144) I wrote in 2004-2005.  Also, my vacation threads and some of my reviews and pictures of Clay concerts.  It's hard to save everything, but I am going to try to save things I want to remember.

Hopefully, it will all be for naught and everything will go on as usual!  :cross

Paypal is very safe and I still use it to this day.  My only suggestion would be to change your paypal password and keep an eye on your CC info.

Good advice, MICHAEL.  I have already checked my accounts (hubby does that, as well, every morning.)  That's the best defense, IMO.  Also I may call our major credit card companies to inform them of potential problems.

Our paypal account is a private account and not attached to the site I don't believe. The email account used is not a claymaniacs.com email. Things should be fine. I use Paypal all the time and haven't had any problems. But with anything you do on the internet you should always pay attention to what is going on and report any discrepancies. I check mine all the time.

Title: Re: The future of Claymaniacs.com
Post by: Moonshot on March 15, 2010, 07:32:51 PM
Philly - our sister site isn't set up to handle everything this one does.

If people would like to volunteer to start copying certain threads to word documents that would be great. I agree it would be terrible to lose everything we have, realistically we can only save some of it.

Then the posts from the word documents can be used to somewhat re-create threads on the new site.

Any volunteers?

It worked! - I have one ANN saved - only 80 pages to go!!!!  :purpbana :lol

Philly - I just highlighted the thread, copied, went to Word, and pasted - even the photos copied  :clap I started with the most recent ANN.

Michelle - if they are saved in Word, will Michaelbe able tell someone who is computer illerate (ME!) how to get them onto a new site? This will take some time - what should I do, and how much time do we have? Should we try to save them, or just let everyone save what is most important to them as individuals? Opinions???

Title: Re: The future of Claymaniacs.com

To save a thread:

click and hold at the top left of the thread page.
Holding it down pull the mouse down, scrolling all the way to the bottom right of the page.
Once it is all highlighted, right click and choose copy or use CTRL C

Open a word document.

Right click in the document and choose paste or use CTRL V

Once you are done it should look like this:

https://www.yousendit.com/download/THE1SXQ5OW5ubVZMWEE9PQ (https://www.yousendit.com/download/THE1SXQ5OW5ubVZMWEE9PQ)

It works the same as if you were copy/pasting a regular word document.

I don't know how much time we have, possibly 48 hours or less. I really don't know.  :para The best thing is if people could post here what they are saving so we don't have several people saving the same thing. We want to get as much copied as possible.

Hold onto the documents. To recreate the threads you will have to create a thread and then just keep making a reply copy/pasting each individual post. Perhaps bolding at the top who posted it and the date they posted it.

Michelle - I will work on the ANNs as much as possible - I am going to start with the oldest ones first - Deannna worked too hard for too  many years for the early things to be lost. I will only be able to work a few hours tomorrow morning (we have plans tomorrow afternoon and night), and will be gone to real estate school on Wednesday (I can work on this WEdnesday evening after I get home) - don't know how many I can move in such a short time. Sounds like the site may not be here by Thursday.

If someone is working on saving the ANNs, please just email me on what pages you will work on - Michelle is right - no need for more than one person to sve the same things.

I'm not going to save anything tonight, so if someone will just p.m. me by morning, maybe we can coordinate. If someone can work tonight and start with the earliest ANNs, I will pick up where they left off tomorrow.

Philly ...what you do is highlight the portion you plan to save...go up and select copy...from the menu on your computer...or the keystroke combo if you know it...and then open a Word document...and go to the edit menu and click on paste...or again, the keystroke combo that applies.  Then you save as usual.  When I copied one page of CM...it took awhile for my computer to accept it...and I've got a very fast one...so this activity will take some time.  I did save the PBS recaps...and Clay highlights...I did that post by post...rather than a page of a thread at at time...that was faster.

I've been a little unsure what is most important to save next...if anyone has ideas...let me know...I'll be out most of the day today for doctors appointments...but if the site is still working I should be able to assist again later on in the early evening...

I am about to start saving ANNs. I feel that is where the most Clay information is contained. I do not know what is best - think I will begin by saving the first week, and then I think I will start saving ANNs from highlights of Clay's carer - tours, TV appearances, etc. I wish it were possible to only save links, but I assume that the links will not work once the site is shut down (DOES ANYONE HAVE THIS INFORMATION???) After I have saved a few of the ANNs, I will start a list of what is saved. Fortuneately, they are a couple of weeks worth on the alternate site - those can be moved over to any new site later. If anyone has suggestions as to what to save, I would be glad to have them. I wish the Coppermine could be moved - so many great photos there - but I don't know what to do.

I have the first week saved - going very slowly, but worth it, I think. Trouble is, I keep wanting to read  :lol I'm back in time - Clay just got Raleigh, and MOAM was #1 on the charts! If we had not just gotten a new computer, I could not have saved anything - our old computer had so little memory. There is so much that should be saved, but so little time.

I just had a thought - If you want your original Avie (and I do - Clandy "made" it for me, and I will always remember her) remember to go into your profile and save your Avie somewhere so that you can add it to the new site. I already have mine saved in photobucket, but many of you may not............................

EDIT - Noon- Central Daylight time:
ANNS saved:

10/28/03 - Welcome to the ANN

I also created threads on the OFC, The Clayboard if there any Claymaniacs there who are willing to help us.

And I posted on the main threads of Getclayaiken, and Chexxy's place to see there any Claymaniacs there that are willing to help us.

Maybe the site is starting to go - I cannot edit my post from above any longer - reply box is jumping around too much - I've also saved these ANNs:

2007
1/11/07
1/30/07
2/12/07
7/3/07
7/11/07
8/19/07

I have all but the first posts of the most recent members of the News Team - I the site is still here when I get back from a 1:00 p.m. appointment, I will get those copied then.

GWENN - Hope your hubby does well with his surgery tomorrow - all of our family members and pets have become family members to all of us - that why this site is so special and worth saving.

I appreciate everyones effort and understanding in this.  This is the last thing I need to deal with,  trust me.  What I am going to do is get the new software in place which will be the SAME software but the latest version,  so at least everyone is comfortable and somewhat familiar.  Once that is live,  I will provide the link to it so you can sign up there and start moving the threads over.  I will leave this forum up as long as everyone needs to get all the info they need to grab.

Some, lke myself can only try ro save threads at night because of work issues, how long can you keep this present verion of claymaniacs up and running?   It will be a shame for many of the archieved threads to disappear.   How long do we have save them?

Thank you, Michael.

Philly - I am back to copying ANNs - just about to start again. After I copy at least one post each from the new News Team, I am going back and will try to save one post (random reporters) from each of the 80 pages of the ANN. If the site is still up after that, I will go back and try for another post from each page, etc. I can't think of a better way - hopefully, this will give a good cross section of Clay's career. I have another appointment at 5, and won't be home until late, but I will try again tomorrow if the site is still up.

The following ANNs are copied:

May 11, 2009
July 20, 2009
July 23, 2009
March 13 & 14 2010

All of Page 80 is copied (copied the entire first two weeks). There are 80 pages of the ANN - 25 days to a page (2,000 days).  So much is going to be lost  :cry - but we are lucky that there is going to be a new site  :bouncy I've copied only a little over 30 days (sorry the list is not all in one post - see above lists). I have to get ready for my appointment - if anyone saves any of the ANNs, plese list here on this Thread - I will check when I get home tonight.

I hated to read that your fine folks had been hacked and were now having to relocate. Knowing how much work Kathy did to move the Clay Aiken Kids site last year, I knew how much lay ahead of you. I couldn't format my way out of a paper bag, but I can 'right-click-and-save' with the best of them! I decided to sign up to help the effort.

Since photos are 'my thang', I'd be happy to work in that area if your galleries need to be saved. I have plenty of space on my hard drive & external so I can store your stuff until you have a new spot for them to be stashed.

Just let me know if the pics need saving and/or where to start.

Wow-that is really sweet of you.  It would be nice to have the pictures too. Perhaps Moonshot can tell you which ones, and where to start.
'
I am going to start with two areas tonight. I will go back and save posts from Critical mass starting at the beginning,  and also from concert recaps, starting with the first one we have. Actually it might be easier to do them first.

Our gallery is here:

Many of the photos are by our members, some are still here, some have gone on so they wouldn't be available. There are a BUNCH of photos in there so it is a huge task. Anything you could do would be wonderful.

I'll start with the Touring groups and with the oldest batch. I'm already into the 'Other (Wango Tango etc). I think I'll switch to the fan art & grab those before going on to the AI2 section, though. Those are more personal and less readily replaceable . If you lose the site before i get to the later ones, I just might have a few (thousand) photos already stashed from his appearances (touring, television, etc) that I can share. In fact, a number of those came from your Galleries in the first place! They'll just be 'going home' again, so to speak. *g*

ANN

04/24/09  SAVED

UM, I HAVE A QUESTION..

MY HUBBY WANTS TO SAVE THE THREADS ON BLANK DISCS. TO SAVE CAPACITY ON OUR HOME COMPUTERS, ARE THERE DIFFERENT INSTRUCTIONS FOR THAT THEN SAVE TO A DOCUMENT FILE?

Title: Re: The future of Claymaniacs.com
Post by: Fountaindawg on March 16, 2010, 04:16:36 PM
Just save them to your computer first. When you have close to the 700 MBs of info, copy those threads to a blank CD and then you could remove them from your computer.

Oh my goodness. How sad. =(

Thank you SO much Michael and all who have kept this website running!!
I've leaned on this website more than enough for support, love, and friendship. I sincerely hope that we do lot all of what has happened here since Clay came to American Idol.

If need be done, it has to be. I hope the PayPal users have no problems with all of this.

Love you all very much!

And then onto some BLP threads with Philly

Philly - I've only saved all of the Memorial threads. I think I'll just do the rest of Member's Corner while I'm at it.

Even though I know a lot of you have been saving things. I found a way that might make it easier than copying and pasting into Word. In your Browser, Click File -->Save Page As --> Select Web Page, HTML Only. What this does is save a copy of the page onto your computer. It'll look like the site when you open the file, but it's not "live." You'll still need to save each page separately, but it's not as cumbersome.

The rest of you who have 'lived here' know what is important to save in your discussion & archive threads. I would suggest that the regular posters grab that stuff and I'll plod along through the photos. When you've gotten the rest sorted, then come over & play in the purdy zone with me. {;-D)

I have just saved the majority of the Independence Tour Archive. The biggest thread was the fan concert reviews- that alone was 313 pages in word. I did not save the posts that said "good review" or "I agree". But I have it saved and I will import it to my hard drive tomorrow.

I will do all the tours, but I can only work at night and this took me over 5 hours. I hope the site can be held until then.

Next is the solo tour.

MICHELLE, I am not a computer brain so don't know the answer to this but have been wondering about it.  Perhaps you could answer the question for me.  If we have already been hacked into and the site is running smoothly, why do we have to destroy it.  Seems like the damage has already been done, what else could possibly happen now???

Because our site was hacked by a terrorist group who used it to phish (falsely gain username, password, account information) for paypal, possibly to use it to fund their terrorism projects. Once we were hacked by them red flags went up with many internet providers, websites, etc. They blocked access to our site for their users --this means people cannot access our site. Our site is running smoothly because the hackers didn't do anything to the public side of our site, only used our resources and information to illegally gain information from others.

We do not want to be associated with any terrorist organization and we don't want access to our site to be blocked. We have to move to different servers and a different format to break this chain.

Hacking does not always cause chaos that is visible.

Unfortunately there isn't anyway to import it. Each person will have to create the thread and then one by one create a reply and copy paste the person's post into the reply. You'll also have to put the person's name and date they posted it before the post.

GLORY, I don't think so.  I certainly haven't changed my PayPal password and I have no intention of closing my account.  As others have already said, PayPal is a very, very secure method of payment.  Please don't worry;  however, I think it would be a good idea to check your accounts every day!

Sue, while you await further instructions with regard to threads, These peeps have a huuuuuge number of photos saved from the tours (especially the recent ones) that I've been working on. I started at the first tours and worked my way up through JNT 04. If you wanted to start saving the pics from the most recent tour (JNTIII/CITH), that would be helpful. Some can be clicked to increase the size and we all know bigger is better! *g*

:wave Lindsay!!! You are a genius!!! Your instructions on Page 4 of this thread work - and it is fast to save a page (haven't tried it on a multiple page yet, though - think I know how to do it). If the site stays up, maybe all of the ANN pages can be moved. I had given up on moving the Magazine Thread, but maybe that can also be moved.

Fountaindawg and Sueru - I am so impressed that you have come to help - but what else would a card-carrying member of the ClayNation do??? :wink Thank You!

EDIT - I just tried this method on a 2-page ANN - the second page saved automatically!!!  :purpbana

EDIT #2 - Anyone saving Threads - please try Lindsay's method. It took me all of yesterday morning to save 30 pages. I've just saved 26 pages in 25 minutes.

Lindsay - just one little glitch - and it won't apply to other threads. When writing the ANN, the year has not been added to the date (that probably needs to be changed in the future). For instance, there are 7 Threads named "AIKEN NEWS NETWORK JANUARY 1" I've done January-March for 2004 - just saved a thread from 2005 to check - cannot save the same date unless the year is added!

I have October 2003-March 2004 completely saved - I'm working on Page 74 of the ANN now. That is in addition to the dates saved yesterday. If someone wants to begin at today's date and meet me in the middle, that would be great! If no one can, I'll just keep working for as long as we are here.

Should have specified the need for different file names, sorry. I've been adding 2,3,4,5,etc. to the end of mine, typically to represent the page number.

Don't know if it was needed or not, but I saved all of our smilies.

Frankie - Are you saving entire threads as .mht files? I'm not quite sure how you're saving all of those pages in less than 10 seconds. Can you do me a favor? Open one of the files and click on a different page besides page 1. Watch the address bar. Does it change from C:/ (or wherever you have it saved) to claymaniacs.com? If so, it won't work once the site is taken down. Someone please correct me if I'm wrong.

Thanks for :cheer for the 'Eers!! I'm hoping - for once - putting them into the Final Four in my bracket is not wishful thinking. Keeping my fingers crossed Memphis gets back on track next year.

:bang Lindsay - it was too good to be true. I guess you have to "Save Page" on each individual page - at least this method is working quickly on the ANN, since the great majority of them are only one page. (Even with two pages saving them this way is much faster!)  :clap

I will just have to delete the DWTS Thread.

At least personal Threads - such as Meet and Greets - can be saved this way and printed (at least I think they can be printed). They won't be on the new site, but at least they won't be completely lost.

Back to the ANN...................

I really did read this thread, really I did (I think, the brain is going quickly)

Is there a time frame on this?  I'm having a hand pain problem and I'm only 350 pictures into the CITH thread .  I thought if I took a break, but I'm thinking I need to take a LONGER break  :bigsmile  I should be able to get them all saved no later than tomorrow - is that okay?

and thanks for the nice welcome all!!!

Thank you so much for jumping in to help! Our webmaster said he should be able to keep this site open long enough to get what we wanted saved. I don't think it will be weeks or anything like that but we should have several days at least.

ANN Update -

Pages 67-80 have been copied. That is October 28, 2003 (beginning of the ANN) Thru October 24, 2004.

I also copied the following dates in order to get the first post of each News Team Member:

6/6/03
6/18/03
6/29/03
9/30/05
1/11/07
1/30/07
2/12/07
7/3/07
7/11/07
8/19/07
5/11/09
7/20/09

I'm still working, but wanted to give this update so we will not be copying the same pages. I am about to start on Page 66

EDIT - (Noon) Page 66 is copied - things are going slower today because the year has to be added. Michelle - can you ask the current News Team to please start putting the Year as well as the date?

I am saving the threads to a word document. Cannot save as a link once the site goes down. I put my cursor on the first post and just scroll down by highlighting.
In this way I save the threads exactly as they are-then we can post the individual posts back when the new site is up.
Frankie, wouldnt it be easier to save the ANN this way for you?

I am saving ALL the concert threads, including the meet and greets, so I hope no one is duplicating that. I am going home now so I will work on it when I get there.

Title: Re: The future of Claymaniacs.com

Marilyn - Lindsay's method is much faster, and also saves the threads exactly as they are - photos, emoticons, etc. Her method will not work on a long thread, such as the Magazine Thread (I found this out yesterday) because you do have to save each page separately. It works well for the ANN, since the great majority are only one page long. For 2 page days, I save the pages separately - just add a #2 after the date for the second day. I am, sadly, not saving second pages of the ANN if they contain only conversation (which I would love to save). I'm only saing pages with Clay News - there is just not enough time to save everything. I would still like to save the Magazine Thread if possible - I may work on that when I am taking a break from the ANN. I just hope, after all of this work, that threads will transfer properly to the new site  :para I am worried. I di exactly as you are doing the first day - scrolled down, highlighted, copied, and saved to Word - that worked well, but took a lot of time! Are you able to get it to copy more than one page at a time? If so, please tell me how.

UPDATE: Have copied Page 65 and half of Page 64 of the ANN - stopped when I copied December 31, 2004. I'm going to take a short break and will get back to work later.........

I will keep it locked. Keep posting what you finish here and I will carry it over there. That way it will be one quick list you can look at.

Frankie- I am more than willing to do it the way Lindsay said- can you tell me again how to do it? Will we be able to transfer everything to the new site?

My way is slow as I CAN only copy one page at a time.

Let me know as I am working on the concerts as we "speak":

Here you go Marilyn -

Even though I know a lot of you have been saving things. I found a way that might make it easier than copying and pasting into Word. In your Browser, Click File -->Save Page As --> Select Web Page, HTML Only. What this does is save a copy of the page onto your computer. It'll look like the site when you open the file, but it's not "live." You'll still need to save each page separately, but it's not as cumbersome.

MUAH!!! I updated the list to reflect that.

If we should lose the other tours, I can probably replace most of what's lost from my own files. However there are some scattered pics that have been new to me among the gala stuff I saved, so there likely are tour pics from members here among the mix as well. Maybe there's a way to search for specific people's photos, but that might take longer that just going on 'automatic pilot' and saving them all.

Anyhoo, I'm halfway through the Photoshoots. I'll have to finish them tomorrow as I've given myself a headache from mutli-tasking. (Flashpoint was really good and worth it, though! *g* Now the dogs want out to peeeeeee ... again!)

:wave Marilyn - I don't see you on site - I did not see your message earlier. I got so excited when I first tried what Lindsay said, because it will copy an entire Thread in a flash - even threads that are 80 pages long! Then Lindsay told me that only the first page would carry over to the new site (when I checked the address at the top of the page, she was right - the first page saved to my computer - all others still had the Claymaniacs address). You still have to save one page at a time, but it is so much faster!

I've only been back at the computer for 30 minutes or so, and have saved several more pages of the ANN (and there are around 25 Threads on each page).

My update: I'm in the middle of Page 59 of the ANN, and have saved though April 30, 2005. If all goes well tomorrow, I hope to finish 2005 and possibly 2006.

:clap :clap :clap Fountaindawg - you are doing so well!!!

OKAY, I JUST COPIED THE ENTIRE 2004 JOYFUL NOISE- CELLCERTS, FAN REVIEWS, SET LISTS, ALL OF IT! IT DOES GO MUCH FASTER BUT THERE ARE STILL A LOT OF THREADS AND PAGES.

I HAD ALREADY DONE THE INDEPENDENT TOUR CELLCERTS, ETC

I AM GOING TO WORK ON THE SMALLEST ONES TOMORROW NIGHT AND THEN THE JBT AND SOLO WHICH WERE REALLY A LOT.

I SURE HOPE MICHAEL WILL GIVE US ENOUGH TIME TO SAVE EVERYTHING.- EVERYONE IS WORKING SO VERY HARD!! FOUNTAINDAWG AND SUERUE-THANKYOU SOOOO MUCH FOR COMING OVER HERE AND HELPING.

BARB- WHAT I AM DOING IS CREATING A FOLDER SAY FOR CHRISTMAS 2004. IN THAT FOLDER I AM CREATING SUB FOLDERS FOR EACH VENUE AND THEN ADDING EACH PAGE OF THE CELLCERT OR FAN REVIEW.  WE NEED TO MAKE SURE THE NUMBER OF THE PAGE IS SAVED SO THAT WE CAN PUT THEM BACK IN THE RIGHT ORDER WHEN THE TIME COMES
THE INDIVIDUAL PAGES FOR THE SET LIST, VENUES OF THE TOURS, AND ODDS AND ENDS I JUST SAVE IN THE MAIN FOLDER.

ITS TIME CONSUMING BUT I WANT TO MAKE SURE I SAVE THEM PROPERLY SO THEY CAN BE REINSTATED.

Marilyn - you asked about reinstating the Threads on the new site - I do not have any information on that at all - I'm just trying, as everyone else is, to get things saved before this site goes down. I am hoping that there will be a smooth transition - and I really hope that threads can be moved without having to copy and paste them all over again - guess we will just have to wait for word from Michael on how this will work. Hope he knows that he is dealing (as far as I go) with someone that knows only the basics about computers  :para Hope moving the threads won't be too technical!

I went back and read my Meet and Greet Threads the other night - this site is so special, and is well worth saving.  Their posts are all that is left of some of our friends.

Good job!! Since these are being saved as a "page" they should not take up too much space. I checked my computer and I have lots of available space. These dont take up as much room as photographs or videos.

Marilyn - they are not being saved as a page - saving each day individually. (I don't think they would save as a page - would disappear when the site does, I think). I am giving the page numbers in case someone wants to start at the present and meet me in the middle. I just finished 2005 - 2006 begins on Page 50, and that is where I will begin next - January 1, 2006.

Thanks, FRANKIE. :hugg  As I re-read "Claymaniacs:Introduce Your Pets" a couple of days ago, I saw so many pictures of pets that have moved on to Heaven and, more importantly, pet "mommies" who have left us, as well.  (Debi, LadyC, etc).  I knew I had to preserve those for all of us.

I have to admit that at first I was feeling a bit cynical and quite resistant to the idea of everybody saving all of these threads, but over the past week my mellow and sentimental side started kicking in big-time!   :para  :blush Most of the time I put on a tough and practical persona, but that's not really who I am inside.  BUSTED!!!  :lol

Thea - I've become a bit sentimental as well saving these threads. Sometimes sad when I see the members who are no longer "active" and listed as guests. I sometimes forget that this isn't just a Clay site. It's all of us too.

So true, LINDSAY!  And we're looking forward to being just a little, teeny part of your upcoming wedding, as well!!!   :ghug

How true this is, Lindsay.  I have seen names I was not at all familar with and some names that I remember but they haven't been here in a while.  I really miss some of the people who are no longer here--maybe one day. . . . .

The biggest problem with getting everything copied is not to get distracted and start reading -- which is extremenly hard to do.

UPDATE - I have finished Critical Mass 3 & 4 today and, with the time frame Michael has set, it certainly should not be hard to get them all saved.

I posted this elsewhere but I will post it here.  Once you are ready to start transferring posts to the new forums,  you are more then welcome to.  ALL forums that are here are set up there verbatim (with the exception of the Adult Playground).  It looks more and more like the new forums will become permanent and not be wiped.

Any special instructions as to how to move them to the new site? I started saving by copying to Word, but switched to Lindsay's method of clicking on "Save As"  with the HTML.  I am having to save each of the ANN pages as a separate page  (numbering the pages 1,2,3 if there are that many pages with one date) - any way to get all of the pages with one date back to one post?

I will probably save all that I am going to save before moving anything to the new site.

I have started on saving the Clay In Magazines thread.
10 down and 54 to go.  Wish I could have started sooner.

I didn't see anyone else doing it, so...hope I am not stepping on anyone else's
toes

Update :  SAVED all of Clay In Magazines thread

Took about an hour and a half to save all 64 pages of the thread.
Much longer than necessary.  But reading some of those old posts
brought back such great memories of his days in the sun of the
magazines.  It just wasn't possible to resist.

I'm not sure what to do next.  So if anyone wants some help, please let know.

SHIRL!!!!   :hugg  It's so good to see you posting.  Hopefully that means you're feeling better and looking forward to maybe attending a concert or two this summer!

I'm recopying the Pet Thread pages because I couldn't find the files when I went to look for them yesterday.   :bduh   This time I will be saving them in my Documents folder.  I'm sure they're somewhere on my hard drive, but after frantically looking for them with no success I decided "better safe than sorry".

Thea - Shirl is feeling good, and is going to see Clay in Reno!  :purpbana I am saving things to folders in My Documents - saving each year separately, in the case of the ANN.

Michelle or Michael - I've been talking to Shirl about the ANN - she suggests putting the year ahead of the date  - she thinks this will keep everything in order. l discovered several dates way out of order, because someone posted weeks after the thread was created (discovered one July date in the middle of November of the same year.) Changing the year to the front of the date  will be  a little extra work, but will be worth it if it keeps everything in the right order. What do you think? I think I will go over to the new site later to add a few dates to the ANN just to see how it will work, but I will wait for an answer to this before doing that.

Have anyone saved the cellcerts from past concerts? I sometimes would go back and enjoy reading them again.

Thanks again for everyone's hard work. Glad it would be easy to save for the new board and looks like you have enough time to save everything. Love the new board so far. :clap

Yes, Tiffany, the cellcert threads are being saved by Marilyn.

To make sure saves aren't being duplicated please check here:

List of Saved Threads (http://www.claymaniacs.com/forums/index.php/topic,16138.msg1010394.html#msg1010394)

before doing anything.

As Philly is doing with Frankie, if you want to help by partnering up and starting at an "opposite end" of a thread timeline and meet someone in the middle this is a great way to get things saved.

ANN - April 2008 and May 2008 Copied. I'm on Page 20

Michelle - did you see my question above about dating the Anns? I just found An October 2007 post right in the middle of May 2008  :bduh Also, since most of the ANN dates are being saved in "HTML only", how are they to be saved? Will we copy and paste, or will they transfer over by a right click (I guess I need to go see what happens when I try to post something.) I assume we will be typing in the Title and date of each??? Where will we put original Poster's name? (Maybe I will see that when I move a post over). If Philly moves a thread from 2010 and I put one from 2003 in later, what will happen - will the 2003 go to the back as it should???

I'm going to go frost a cake that just came out of the oven - if all of you want to come on down, we can eat cake and discuss this in person - I'm warning you, though - it is snowing here again!!! (Third time this winter!!!)  :jaw

You will be recreating the thread but the post time will determine the order. If you create a thread for a date in 2007 and someone else goes in after you and creates a thread for 2005 it will be above the 2007 date because of when it was posted.

Your idea for the year being listed first is a good one.

When you recreate a thread you will have to do it one post at a time. Copy/pasting each individual post. You will need to include the poster's username and original post date as part of the body of your post.

For example:

Claymaniac username posted this on April 17, 2004

Quote
copy/pasted post

Does that make sense?

It does , but with the ANN each News Team member (or anyone who helped her that day) will be shown as the person who made the post anyway - at least I think this informaion will show up?) I guess there is no way to avoid the present poster's name from showing up on the outside of the Thread.  Shirl thinks that if we put the year first - as in 2010 AIKEN NEWS NETWORK January 1 - the date will line up correctly, no matter when it was posted. I hope she is right about this. She said it works with her personal files on her computer - maybe Michael does not have things set up like this, though. In the past, ANN threads have moved out of place as soon as someone posts in them - even months afterward. I will try the dates both ways to see what happens.

I think entire pages will be able to be highlighted, copied, and pasted at one time. (At least I hope so!)

I hope we will be able to delete on the "test site". I will make errors at first, I know, and I would like to get it right.

Just copied June and July 2008 - I'm on Page 18.

EDIT - August and September 2008 Copied - I'm on Page 16, but am about to take a break.

Michelle, can you check the Independent thread to see if I posted correctly?

And am I right in saying that we need to save any photo's separately in photobucket and then add them to the posts where they were originally?
