I made fudge brownie coffee cause Karen missed having some last week, peppermint herbal tea, and hot chocolate with mini mallows in case Jan and Debi drop by :hugg
I already have a load of wash in, I think my new washer/dryer will be delivered today, and I am so challenged with new appliances and electronics, I'll need to read the instructions 10 times to get it :bduh :roflmao figured I better be ahead of the wash :lmao

Hello!  Sorry I haven't posted so much but life has been busy.  Also - have enjoyed sleeping in for a few days! I lost a lot of pay, but I have had time to enjoy my family and just laze around. 

To update, Heidi and Ho are parted for a while, but had fun while it lasted.  Ho won a lot of money at the casino and Heidi is broke (Hope I didn't mix them up).  Sharon is in a winter wonderland and may have a new washer and dryer today, if she can stop gallivanting around with all of her many, many friends. 

Barb has had some unhappy news (if you haven't read about it, go back to RTM thread #39).  We all love and support her and want her to feel the big hugs coming her way. 

Brenda has been lazy but happy.

Marilyn and Shirley and Kim and I want to feel a little more love from Clay than we have been getting.  He is a big boogerhead.

Chrisie came to visit and remind us how much we love her.

After reading about Jett Travolta yesterday, I have been in a complete fog.  I just can't even imagine something happening to my children.  Makes me want to hold onto them really tight and to never let go. 

Since I'm up, I decided to do a google search on this item that Nathan wanted for Christmas from his Aunt.  It was $50.  No wonder she didn't get it for him.  Our limit is $30.  I guess that I need to work on that too.  Just because he wants something, doesn't mean that he's going to get it.  Nothing like my own children to snap me back into reality.

I am going to buy some roses for Al and Woody and take them to the cemetery on this beautiful sunny afternoon.
I have been treating myself to roses every week, great deal at one of our discount grocery stores~~~5 roses for $5.00 :clap Woody loved roses so very much :hugg
Then off to have dinner with Mom, I made some chili for the two of us~~~Beth don't even go there :lol :explode

Hi Sharon. My life should settle down now. My sister goes back to Florida tomorrow.

We are expecting freezing rain tomorrow afternoon, I am so glad I have nowhere to go, I'll be able to get started on the business year end and inventory count, which I really hate doing :lol

I spent a good part of my day helping my son move into his apartment.  He will be getting a divorce and (for now at least) he is starting over in an apartment with second hand furniture and probably a lot of time alone.  He is planning on having his son, Derek, age 8, to join him for a breakfast in a restaurant tomorrow morning and then a day together at Tim's apartment.  Life's changes . . . . .  very challenging.

We are also expecting some hazardous road conditions tomorrow.  If so, I will hibernate.  :blush  I wanted to go to Green Bay and visit my sister-in-law in the hospital.  She has been very seriously ill and I hope she gets strong enough to get back home.

I think I said HAPPY NEW YEAR in our old thread . . . .but it is worth repeating! :bouncy :bouncy

SHARON, lovely breakfast, thank you so much!!!!  I had a bad night, I was running from a stalker, he was always chasing me, he looked like the guy that played RoseAnn's husband on that ROSEANN tv show!!!!  Gosh how scary.  I remember sitting up in bed and reaching and Alli jumped on me trying to figure out what in the he*l I was doing.  Serves me right for starting a new murder mystery book last evening.

BARB, so sad for your grandson.  The poor little guy at the age of  8 has to figure out why dad is living in an apartment now.  I feel so bad for the family.  My DIL who divorced my son 12  years ago thought she was missing something so filed for divorce, well she doesn't have all those boyfriends she thought she would have and never remarried and still tries to make life miserable for my son.  What a mess!!  :hugg

EVELYN, miss you!!!  Seemed funny not to have you talking about your cookies you made for Christmas, and to hear what you fed Bozena.  So happy you gals had a great time together.  Are you planning to go to Florida soon?  Sure wish you would to get out of this winter weather for a while.

Was gone most of the day yesterday.  Had to get some paint for a bedroom, get a few groceries at Walmart $150 yikes what did I buy!!!!!!!  :bang Than to Sears outlet to check of refrigerators.  I am thinking of putting mine in the garage and buying one that is all refrigerator with no freezer.  I have a chest type freezer in the garage, so really don't need more freezer room but sure do need more refrigerator room.  Than had a McDonalds for lunch.

I just unplugged the fridge we have in the basement, that is really only used in the summertime, didn't want to waste the electricity, and got it all cleaned out and defrosted.  I may even get rid of it, it's old, and get a small bar fridge to use.

Wes is doing great! We went to an out of town delivery yesterday (over 30 miles each way). His boss let me go along.  :smile Still taking things slowly, but they're going awesome! Jonathan is still in a cast. I think he has at least 2-3 weeks before he's out of a cast.

Morning ladies,

You moved without me!  Had another one of my lazy days yesterday (does that mean I'm getting even older?) but thoroughly enjoyeed it, I must say. I have figured out my 'work schedule" for this pay period and decided I would be okay to take another day off - will just make it up when Cristien isn't here.  He goes home tomorrow. He has been here since Christmas day so it is going to be really hard to let him go.  He just belongs here, dang it!!!  I got him that Smart Cycle for Christmas and he is so enjoying that (I don't get to watch TV so much anymore but I don't care).  We even had to take it to Aunt Julie's house with us.  He got a ton of toys but he has spent almost no time at all with anything but that cycle.  I'm sure he will, once I get everything organized so he can easily find them all and actually see what he has, which I will do this week when the tree goes - am really ready for that now!

Sharon, you practically have a new house, all in all.  Wish we could all see it in person - what fun that would be. Perhaps, if we don't get a tour this summer (or if we do and he comes to Toronto) we can manage that.  I would love to see Stratford as well.  With all that redoing and moving of things, I'm surprised you haven't found your camera.  

Barb, so sorry to hear about your son. It's scary when there are children involved (especially when your son is the father and not your daughter the mother as I think fathers usually get the shaft - wonder why I think that?).  I hope you can stay on good terms with your DIL so she doesn't try to keep you away from the children (Just Derek or more?) My heart goes out to you, your son and your grandchildren - it is sooo difficult! What a time to get this awful kind of news!

Kim, sorry to hear you aren't feeling well. I finally got some steroids and am now starting, finally, to be able to breathe somewhat better - it has been tough for a couple of weeks. Must have been a virus, although I didn't feel really ill this time, just short of breath with a cough and wheezing.  I am in the middle of the RX now. Steroids - hate 'em but also love 'em. Just glad I don't have to take them on a daily basis any longer.

Shirley, sounds like you are busy. What are you painting? Yep, it doesn't take much to spend a small fortune every time you leave your house these days, does it?  I hate to even go inside a store anymore.  My cupboards are looking pretty bare after a week of the "boys" being here, too, though. Guess I'm gonna have to grin and spend.

Meesa, do we get a pic of your Bf?  Did you have to take a day off from your many jobs to take your day trip with him? Sounds like fun.

Bozena, will you go to a casino with me and play for me - puleeze? Boy, are you a lucky duck.  Good for you.  Evelyn, my luck is more along the lines of yours.  Glad you had so much fun.  It's always hard when it ends, though. I guess it's time for life to get back to normal now for all of us. It's good and also sad to have the holidays end.  Won't miss the stress though.

Beth and Jan, it is so scary when someone loses a child. I think we are shocked, especially when it is someone who seems to have everything, like John Travolta. I do feel so sad for his family - they seem like very nice people.  I don't have small children anymore but I do have small grandchildren, so those thoughts are really scary for me, too.  Pray God whatever lessons there are in losing a child aren't ours to have to learn. I don't think I could handle it at all.

Carolyn, glad you have been taking some time to spend with your family - it sucks to not have a regular salaried check - I know that for a fact!

Mary. I hope you are feeilng better - any word on when your surgery is going to be?  I miss you, lady! Any word on Brandon - has he been deployed yet?

Hi everyone

Shirley - I really thought everyone was pretty tired of hearing about my cookie woes. Honestly, I still had orders to fill, but it was difficult to ship anything. After last year's fiasco with DHL , I decided not to even attempt it this year. 

Bozena had one of Matt's famous calzones (buffalo chicken). She wanted to know if we served that for three people. They really are huge. She could only eat half and even said that was too much. Of course, we had pizza too.

We had so many different meals. Breakfast at my daughter's on Christmas morning, lasagna for Christmas dinner, then Bozena took us out one night and then, of course, we had a breakfast and dinner at the casino when we went there.

For the most part, we just sat at home and talked. Had a great time just having her here. She is so laid back that she truly is good for me.

Don't know yet when I'll go down there. Probably depends on plane fares. We shall see

OK - I'd better get some things done around here.   

Evelyn, so glad Heidi and Ho had a blast together :hugg you two are so good for eachother :wink

Hi Everybody!

We went to Tim Horton's for Dave this morning.  He's hurt his back and can't sit up.  I told him that he'll be getting Chicken McNuggets for lunch.  No soup for him today  :lol. 

I'm doing laundry today.  Tomorrow the kids go back to school.  It will be nice to get back into my regular routine, but I must admit that it will be a little lonely with everyone gone.

Dave changed the resolution on my screen and the words are really big now.  For some reason, the screen was shaking before, so the resolution needed to be changed.

SHARON, hubby picked the color and it is the palest of pale yellow.  Very cheerful. the bedroom gets tons of sunshine when we have sun that is.    He has been cleaning the walls and caulking some places to get ready to start painting.

BRENDA. loved you post!!!  We are painting one of the bedroom.  I have to threaten hubby to get him to paint.  It needed it when we moved in three years ago.  Not much room to move around in with a ladder with a queen bed, long dresser and night stands.  Glad you took another day off you sure deserve it.

Oh, did I tell you guys that over the holidays, one of my teeth that had a crown on it totally broke off....... and while travelling, my new necklace fell off in the toilet at a rest stop and when I was starting to reach in to get it...yes I was going in..... the automatic flush took it  :bang :bang :lmao Oh, I was soooo mad.

EVELYN, that is great that you got some relaxing time in with Bozena.  How funny you had what I fixed for Christmas Day, Lasagna.  It was wonderful but so very rich, I really loaded it up with the cheese this time.  I am having baked potatoes and putting two slabs of left over Prime Rib  under the broiler for our dinner today.  I am getting ready for some simpler meals, like chili, soups and salads.

  Well, like you Shirley , I am having my living room and hall painted. Trouble is , I can't figure out what color I want. My couch and chair are a brown suade (?) and my other chair is a cream leather, I have a beige rug and gold drapes. Right now the walls are a light beige color. Do I stay with that or go bold. I'm not a very bold person. Anyhow, suggestions everyone.

I'm really missing Bozena = It was so nice to have someone to talk to everyday.

She is  so laid back and relaxing with a ready smile that just makes you feel good.

EVELYN, don't know what to tell  you.  I get bored with colors so easy I always play it safe with light colors plus my rooms are small and the bright or dark colors makes the rooms look smaller  yet.  It costs so much to paint anymore especially if you have to pay someone to do it.    You can get color charts to bring home if that would help.  Yep it is great to have company but so lonely when they leave.  I wished Bozena lived closer to you.  With her around I know you rest and have fun also.   :hugg 

SHARON, how fortunate you are to have so many friends.  I know if something happened to my hubby I would be sitting here alone.  Plus you have friends that even cook that is even better.  Yep when you have anyone do any kind of work it costs big bucks now.  Glad you will be safe while driving though.

I like to keep the walls neutral, then you can spice things up with accent cushions and maybe a nice big pot in a funky color :bouncy Then it's easier to change accent colors if you tire of the one you have first :wink But~~~~~~Philly I love the terra cotta idea~~~on one feature wall and use terra cotta in your accents

Just popping in to say hi - been a busy day - furniture moving, etc.  My daughter got all new furniture for her family room and I absolutely loved her sofa, loveseat and ottoman so I took it - also got the area rug that I liked a lot, too. My niece and her hubby came down and took my furniture for their daughter who will be moving out soon, so it all worked out for everyone.

Just wanted to announce some happy news (for a change) - Today Chris got word that his appeal from the debacle over the video tapes was done and the case was thrown out - he WON!!!!! Now he doesn't have to go back to jail.  Unfortunately, that ding-bat judge is going to be po'd big time. We are now investigating ways to make him or Paula pay all the legal costs (and time off work, travel, etc.) that it cost Chris.  Maybe the judge will realize that not everyone is willing to cower in a corner while he makes up his own laws.  Anyway, it is hooray time!  

On the sad side, Cristien went home, but he will be back on Friday for the weekend - back to normal schedules. It was so very nice to have him here for 11 full days!  It seemed very natural and normal for him to be here - I miss the little tyke.  

Evelyn, I think you should go bold - Julie's house was neutral colors. She now has the most beautiful color of green on one wall, a faux finished greeny/beige on the opposite one,  and is searching for the right terra cotta/earthy red color for her foyer and upstairs hallway. It looks so great!  Wish I could do that, too.  My house is also small and I'm afraid it would look smaller but I almost don't care about that. Can't afford to pay anyone to paint it for me though, so I guess it can stay its old off boring white self.  

Well, ladies. It has been one very long day - lots of running. I still have a ton of toys to go through, throw out or organize and clear up tomorrow plus I got absolutely no work done today so tomorrow will also be long. We are 'looking  forward' to snow and ice tomorrow and Wednesday. I went grocery shopping today also so I won't be going out for a couple of days unless I am forced to.  Hope that mess that is supposed to be heading your way (Barb, Shirley, Becky, Chrisie, and Sharon) misses you - and everyone else as well.

Bryan left this morning for boot camp. He should arrive at Parris Island some time around midnight. He seems to be a little more prepared than Brandon was.
Brandon was home for the holidays, and he is not sure when he will be deployed except for May or June. It is kept secret until 24 hours before he leaves. Security reasons. In fact we weren't allowed Bryan;s schedule for today either. All we know is that he will call home with a prepared speech sometime after he arrives on base. He is given a note to read and Carrie is not allowed to say anything to him. We will not be able to hear his voice now until Family Day on Parris Island the day before he graduates around the first week in April.

BARB, I had chili today for dinner also.  Put it on at 1:30 and let it simmer all day.  It really tasted good on the cold day!!! I am watching the new dance show right now.  Yep I wished you didn't live so far away.

BRENDA, thank you  :hugg you are a sweetheart!!!  HORRAY for Chris that the stupid case was thrown out.  That must have driven you crazy that he might go to jail.  Hope that judge doesn't try and make more trouble for him somehow!!!  I thought it was so ridiculous to waste court time over a video, though my ex DIL did the same thing over some old pots and pans just to keep the divorce active!!!  How sick and how sad huh??  How exciting  you got different furniture what color is it???  What did Julie get?  When I go to someone's house and they have bright painted walls I always love it or when I see them on House Hunters, but I get tired of things so fast.  I have changed the colors in my kitchen three times and I have only lived here for three years!!!   :lol

Today was the kids first day back to school. 

Tonight, Nathan started up his indoor soccer again. 

Tomorrow, Diana will start her indoor soccer from 10:30 - 11:30.  She is so cute.  She is just sooo excited.

Nathan's coach asked her who was better at soccer, her or Nathan.  She didn't say a word and just gave him a look.  One of the other mom's looked at the coach and said, "Well, I guess she told you!"  :lol  She's not modest at all!  :lol 

Tonight I purchased a matching shirt and shorts for her, and also a pair of shin guards.  She also got a hooded sweatshirt just for signing up.

Shirley, I have been watching it on and off.  Michael Flatley is really flat :lol as a host, and with all the judges, just kinda sitting there with not much personality, it reminds me of the Olympics :lol

I would go bold with colors as well.  Why not?  We made a little media room in the basement so the kids can watch TV or play video games.  I found a bright green I liked on a box and Bill took it to Home Depot and matched it.  It looks great.  We also have a subtle green in our bedroom which is very soothing.  Emily has bright pink and neon green walls and it looks awesome.  Jacob has a really nice bright blue (almost royal blue) on his walls and it is perfect.  His room is small but the light trim keeps things from being overwhelming.

Eggshell white is fine but why not have some fun with your house?

Evelyn, not too many options IMO with brown furniture and gold drapes.  I guess I would try to match the carpet color of beige for the walls, that would make the room look bigger.  You could accent with a nice big splashy picture in meditteranean colors; golds, rusty reds, bristol blues, soft greens, browns to tie it all together.  Or pillows for your sofa in a print of these colors.  Like Sharon suggested.

Bozena, your Romeo is gorgeous!!  No wonder the "girls" liked him from the start!  Glad he's fitting into your little family!  I kinda like a bigger cat, as long as they are affectionate.  Do you know his approximate age?

I will take some pics of both my living room and Julie's once everything is in place.  Mine isn't anything really exciting but the sofa is soooo comfy and I love the ottoman (didn't have one of those).  It is just a big sofa that you sink into. It helps that I also like the colors - grays, beiges, black - looks pretty good in my room. I could really use some new end tables and lamps - later maybe.

Carolyn, why do those really bold  colors sound like your personality? Why not enjoy, indeed!

I just got this bug that has been going around and as usual it turned into pneumonia for me. I always get pneumonia whenever I get sick. It really is because, in part, of my heart problems.
I am hoping to be able to get my back surgery sometime at the end of this month. I want to plan it so I will be well enough to travel to South Carolina for Bryan's graduation from boot camp.

BRENDA, yep I am  not thrilled with Clay that he couldn't take two minutes for his devoted fans.  Me it didn't bother, I like to listen to him on the CD but looking at him and his so called friend I just don't tolerate that to well.  What do they say when you love some one so much it can go the complete opposite real fast.  I know Neil Diamond and Barry Manilow are bigger stars and both had time for their fans on their fan club site.  Can't wait to see your pictures of your furniture.  I also like to play the wall color safe as it is like heading to divorce court to get hubby to paint so when I pick a color I know I am going to live with it for at least five years.

Evelyn, you received some good ideas for decorating. Everyone looks at things differently, don't they? Even all the decorators on HGTV (my favorite channel) have different ideas on the same type of room. Some say a dark walls make the walls recede and the room looks larger; others say the opposite. Karen's suggestion made a lot of sense. Besides, doing it her way, you can change the accent color whenever you get tired of the one/ones you are currently using.

Bozena, it's so good to see your colored caps!!! It's hard to tell how large your Romeo is, but it's obvious he is large in your heart already.  :hugg  I went to a Red Hat luncheon today and heard many many funny stories about dogs. Not many cat people there. We have never had a resident pet so it's fun to hear other people's stories.

Karen, did you watch the whole OSU game last night? Talk about suspense!!! I wanted a photo of the Texas player's advancement on that key play at the 40-yard-line near the end of the game.  :bang

Barbara, my heart is going out to you and your family right now, but there is no doubt in my mind that Derek knows he is loved by many people.  :hugg  It is so much easier when there are no children involved when marriages fall apart. I've often wondered if my girls didn't have children because of painful childhood memories of divorce.  :hugg

Our lunch today was at a classic restaurant in Cadillac, Michigan. It's owned and operated by a Scandinavian chef. The food was quite good...even for someone like me who doesn't like fancy food. AND, I did not have dessert.  :bigsmile  Couldn't choose between key lime pie, pecan pie, or raspberry cheesecake, so I didn't have any of them.  :bduh  For one thing, the cheesecake did not look anywhere near as good as Junior's.

We shopped afterward in the old part of the town. Christmas sales at 70% off were abundant and my group was buying like crazy. Not me. My garage is too full of unused Christmas decor already. Although I did get a Boyd Bear wearing a Christmas Tree outfit. Could not resist her.  :bigsmile 

Again, it's fun to see so many posting again. Now, where is Peggy hanging out???

Barbara, I hadn't said anything yet about your son's awful shock of his marriage ending.  I just keep thinking she'll have a change of heart.  They have a lot of history together, and a child together.  I would think that they would want to work on the relationship a little harder before giving up.  Did they get counseling at all?  Was this a big surprise to him?  If the marriage has been awful for him lately, this might be kind of a relief to him, I have no way of knowing.  Whatever the case, I wish for a healthy relationship between them, for the child's sake.   :lick

KAREN - I think Tim was shocked at the "timing" of the divorce decision.  He had wanted them to have counseling regarding their "finances" quite a while ago, but she would not.  They were worlds apart when it came to over-buying and not living within their means.  As a result, Tim always worried about their debts and would have welcomed some sort of counseling that would have helped them with that issue.  He has also been a good step-father to her 16 year old daughter from a previous marriage and all of them love Derek.  So . . . . if the adults continue to act like "adults" . . . even tho' they get divorced, I believe they can continue to be good parents.   (Amen)   :para

Last night I cooked a corned beef so today I made a big pot of cabbage soup with the broth. It was yummy  Nice hot soup on a cold winter day, with a fresh baked loaf of French bread.
I just got a call from my daughter about Brandon. The Marines are sending him to a ship to pay the sailors and he will be with them for 2 weeks. He will port in Hawaii and Australia both for 3 days. Nice job, huh? His job in the Marines is financial disbursement, so that is what he does, makes sure the service men and ladies get paid.
I am hoping that we will be hearing something about a concert soon. Our soon, not Clay's!!!!

GOOD MORNING, well I guess I will fix breakfast this morning while SHARON shovels the snow!!!!!!!!!

The  :coffeepot is on and the tea is in the teapots steeping!!!  I have the pitchers of fresh squeezed orange juice, grapefruit juice and cranapple juice on the table.  We have omelets this morning filled with diced pepper/diced ham and bacon with melted cheese also home fries nice and crispy.  Bagels that have been split and buttered right out of the broiler so nice and bubbly and brown, also a fresh pecan struesel coffee cake.   A nice side dish of bananas and blueberries with cream.

Need some prayers - guess we got it wrong about the appeal - the appeal itself was dismissed (not the order that sent him to jail).  Ann was sweet enough to check it out for me (it did sound confusing and ambiguous), and Chris read it wrong.  I guess his new attorney up there filed it wrong, so it has to be done again. Thank God for Ann. We are still waiting for the new attorney to call us back after three days.  Please restart the prayers.


Got a doctor's appt this afternoon and a bone scan so have to run.  Will try to come back later. Gotta get some work done. Want to go over and see Julie's new furniture after I go to the doctor (she hates it, she says), so time is of the essence.

Some water lines must have broke during the night, Crews are out in front of my house since about 2 in the am. They keep messing with the electrical too because my clocks keep flashing. I had a good dinner.  I put ribs in the crockpot with onions and peppers with barbecue sauce and cooked it all day, smelled wonderful.  Served this over broad buttered noodles, decided to fix a nice green salad and had some hot from the oven yeast rolls plus a glass of Merlot wine.  Very good and as usual I am stuffed. 


BRENDA, I cant believe it!!!!!!!  :bang  Here I thought it was all over with!!!  It is driving me nuts I can imagine what it is doing to you.  This sounds so ridiculous all this over a stupid tape.  Hard to believe a court would waste its time on this crap.

Dinner tonight for us was ham, mashed taters, cranberry salad. We're at my parents and took down and put away all their Christmas stuff. They gave me a digital keyboard for Christmas. Can you believe it? Mom thought it was just a normal piano keyboard. It was a huge surprise.  :bigsmile

Does anyone plan to watch AI this season? I refuse to watch until they're down to the wild card show. IF I watch it at all. It's been pretty lame lately in my opinion.

Mom is asleep on the couch. Dad is watching some new show. I am sitting in the room with them talking to you. Jim is in the bedroom watching the game and keeping me posted on scores. Sounds exciting, right???

I watch AI every year.  I really didn't watch season 1 at all and I could barely watch Clay's season because I was completing my Masters' degree and class was every Tuesday night with our group meetings on Wednesdays.

Since then, I always watch.  The whole family can watch it together and discuss it.

SHARON, thanks for such a wonderful breakfast!!!!  How can I go to bed so full from supper and get up in the morning so hungry?  Didn't sleep well last night again.  Had to  use my inhaler during the night so I could breath and that is while I was on oxygen.  Past week hasn't been a good one so I am not posting as much as I normally do.   (in case you wonder).

BOZENA, Romeo is just gorgeous and oh how I love that name.

BECKY, I really don't like looking at the new Clay pictures I like the older pictures better, where he was manly looking and I could speculate about things!!   :bouncy Hey where is our January thaw???????????

CAROLYN, I also watch American Idol.  Every year hubby says he won't watch it but he does.  His favorite show NCIS comes on at the same time so he will miss part of it.  Nothing else to watch so it is better than nothing.

Well I STILL have not kicked this stupid Upper Respiratory thing. Night before last I took a nice 3 am trip to the ER. They are calling it bronchitis...but it aint! I've HAD bronchitis...and this aint it! This aint in my lungs or chest at all. It's all in my head!  :roflmao

I'll be watching AI this year, although from the preview I just saw, I think I'm going to find Kara DiGuardio (sp?)  very annoying and LOUD.  It was a preview of the auditions.  From what I hear, the auditions are going to be less stupid stuff, and more of the quality singers showcased. :clap

Hi ladies,

Off to a late start again - just can't seem to get to sleep at night until 3, 4 or even 5 in the morning, then of course I can't get up.  Bad, bad me.

We are expecting up to 8 inches of snow tonight and tomorrow - Emily has that swim meet in Bowling Green tomorrow and Sunday - wouldn't you know! I will still go, if at all possible.

Not so great news at the doctor's yesterday - found out I have pretty bad osteoporosis - Ladies, take your calcium -- and Vitamin D as well.  I'm getting an infusion of Reclast - not even taking Boniva or Fosamax or any of the other pills.  Guess I'll have to be extra careful from now on not to fall- am not too concerned, though. Also am now on anticholesterol medication (not a big surprise as I am bad with butter, etc.).  Getting old does really suck - but it is definitely better than the alternative!

Bozena, love that Romeo - he is a lady killer for sure!

Kim, so sorry to hear you are still sick.  I hope you are taking some time off work - sounds like sinusitis - which can lead to bronchitis and pneumonia so please be careful.  What did they put you on? Did they say viral or bacterial?

Shirley, not again. I am on my last two days of Prednisone and it has really helped.  I'm no longer wheezing and can breathe a lot better.  I was even able to walk for a while on the treadmill although not the 50 minutes I was doing before. Will work my way back up.  I have also gained weight (what else is new?). I am really grateful for steroids but they need to put me on a diet pill at the same time because I want to eat everything in sight - my puter isn't even safe when I[m on steroids.  I hope you are staying in and taking it easy as well.

Karen, good thing you are so skinny - you can afford those cookies.

KAREN, how long are you going to stay in Santa Fe???  I had a steriod pill this first thing this morning and am feeling better today!!!  Did your son do any cooking over the holidays at your house??  I made a pizza tonight for the first time.  It was good but the bottom of the crust was to soft and a little soggy.  I have heard of pizza stones you can get to bake them on and wondered if they are any good. 

BRENDA,  I was on steriods Sun., Mon., and Tues, went off of them Wed, and Thurs, and back on them today.  when my lungs close down if I take a steriod pill it opens my lungs up so I can cough all that stuff up and breath again.   Like you I hate taking them but there is nothing else that works.  I hate to think what it is doing to my bones, destroying them I guess.  If you have been on steriods that is probably why you haven't been sleeping.  I seen on the weather that you are supposed to get hit with a ton of snow, I think we might miss this one.  I think the snow is supposed to hit the southern part of Michigan.

Does anyone here have Consumers Energy for their electric?  I just got my electric bill today, the last one was horribly high well this one today just about gave me a heart attack.  I could not believe how high the rates have gone.  My bill has doubled.  BECKY I bet you have Consumers Energy.  After going to the grocery store and coming out grumbling and than to open my mail box and see that bill it did not make for a happy day.  Hubby and I heard a few people walking around saying they needed to take out a loan to go grocery shopping.  I am old I guess, beccause  I remember when they use to put price controls on things especially when the economy was so bad.

BETH, does the crust on the pizza turn out nice and crusty on the bottom?  Do you heat the pizza stone before you put the dough on it?

Shirley - Here I am - making pizza everyday and you don't ask me how to make pizza. OK - here is the secret.
Use a pizza stone - it should be hot. Put your dough in the pan and then (now listen closely) put a small amount of sauce on it. You want to be able to see the dough, get a large spoon and scoop any sauce off it. This is just enough sauce that you can see the dough. Bake you pizza and keep checking the bottom. When it is totally brown, and you may have to keep turning it to brown it evenly, then put the amount of sauce that you want on it. This sauce will cover the pizza and you will see no dough. Bake this for about 10 minutes longer. Now - what this does is cook the dough without it becoming soggy. Then when the dough is cooked, no amount of top sauce will make it
soft and soggy.

Haven't you ever noticed that electric bills are always higher in December. I think they just assume everyone has a Christmas tree and lights.

You wanted to know who was going to paint for me. My cousins ex-husband is a painter and since they are still very close even though they are divorced, he is doing the painting for me. He uses no masking tape, primes everything first and uses only a top grade paint. He is as neat as a pin and there is never a spot of paint anywhere but on the walls.  Right now , I just got the quart samples, and I'm trying them on each wall to see what color I want. I'm staying in the cream family. It's amazing how different the paint looks from the chips.

Shirley, I arrive in Santa Fe on the 21st and leave on the 28th.  It won't seem long enough!  The last time I went for a visit, I was helping her move most of the week.  This time will be much more relaxing!!  I think we are planning to go to a "hot spings;"  she said to bring my swimsuit.  Santa Fe usually has very similar weather to Ohio, so this hot springs will seem like going into someone's jacuzzi while there is snow around!  :hypno Sounds like fun!

If I go this time of year, she won't be asking me to hike with her, either! :lol  I kinda don't mind hiking, but just don't like doing it for hours at a time!  We'll be driving up to Telluride during the weekend for a ski lesson (hers).  I'm going along for the ride.  I've heard of the place and look forward to seeing it (then relaxing with a book while she skis! :lol)

On the way there I stopped at "Michaels" craft store~~~do you have the chain in the US???  Had a 50% off so much, I bought a 6' tall silk bamboo tree for the basement, had to bend really low to carry it under the doors, and then very carefully got in the van :roflmao, haven't brought it in yet, I wanted to try in the daylight :lol

EVELYN, thanks so much for telling me about making pizza.  I thought maybe since you make it professionally you  used special equipment.  You are right about the paint chips looking so much different than the actual paint on the walls.  We painted my bedroom and bath with what I thought was a hint of pink what I got was a darker pink and I hate it, but now I am stuck  with it hubby says.

This time we didn't escape - we got walloped with the worse yet to come, or so they say. I am about to get ready to go to Emily's swim meets in Bowling Green (about 1/2 an hour or so on a good day from us so will definitely take much, much longer today). Everything else in the city is closed down - not this as it is their only fundraiser each year and they don't obviously care if they put all the children in danger. Em wants to go so we are going! Guess Toledo can't be so lucky all the time. I just hope this is the worst for the winter.

Sharon, for someone who "doesn't cook", you sure do make a lot of stuff.

Evelyn, my daughter's painter paints samples on poster board - you can hold it up to the wall and compare (Poster board is pretty large too). Works really well.  And, you are so right, the actual paint looks very little like the chips.

Kim and Shirley, so glad you are both feeling better. Shirley, hope you are taking your calcium and vitamin D (as I didn't and am now paying for it).

Shirley - Yes - the pizza ovens we use are professional ones, with four doors.  We start in the first door and then as the pizza bakes it goes into each of the other doors. Each door is at  a different temperature. but, basically, the trick is to put very little sauce on until the bottom is brown and crisp.

Shirley, I have already bought 4 quarts of different color paints. Sherwin Williams will make them any color you want. They cost 5 dollars each. Then you buy the disposable sponge brushes and try each color on a different wall because the lighting is different in each part of the room . It gives you a much better idea of what the final paint will look like.

Shirley, the altitude in Santa Fe doesn't seem to bother me.  I love it there.  Too expensive to actually live there, but nice to know someone I can stay with!  I feel a bit better today, but I think I'll be taking vitamins from now till I leave.  Glad you had a much better day yesterday!   :hugg

Sharon, Kim, I saw Frannie's  photoshop while at the BLPT lurking last night.  Too funny!  She did a great job!  :clap Kim, dunno when that picture was taken, but I didn't recognize you at all!   

My shin is so sore and bruised.  Who knew I should wear my son's soccer shinguards for a trip to Sam's Club?

I felt like such an idiot....was tooling along with one of their huge carts in front of me on Wednesday, hurrying cuz I was running late, looking from side to side at the goodies, when BAM!!  I ran right into one of those concrete supporting pillars.  Well, forward momentum, I guess, and my right shin got hit hard by the cart!  Looked like half a baseball within a matter of seconds!! :eek
Well, I was so embarrassed, glad it wasn't busy, nobody saw me.  I "held in" the pain, like the boys on the soccer field do, until I got into my car with the windows rolled up.  Waahhhhhhh!!  Put an ice pack on after I got home, but it was a good 20-30 minutes later by the time I got home. 

Still really hurts, the bruise kinda wraps around my leg.  I'm such a klutz!! :hypno

Ooooh, Karen, OUCH!!! The shin bone is the most painful place to hurt I can think of.  :hugg Doesn't everyone shop by looking around at everything except what's in front of them? KAREN, poor Karen!!!!  Poor Karen's leg!!!!!!!  :hugg When I was reading your post I could actually feel my leg hurt.  I remember when we were in Flagstaff and we toured some indian ruins on a mountain and had to walk these narrow paths up and around the mountain I thought I would die right there.  The altitude really got to me and that was a long time ago before I had lung problems. 

BRENDA, sure wished you wouldn't have gone today, hey if the town was closed down that has to mean the roads shouldn't be traveled.  I am waiting to see if you got home alright!!

EVELYN, I have been in the kitchen all day.  No wonder I never get anything else done.  After fixing bacon and eggs, toast and juice for breakfast and cleaning that up, I started my soup, a new recipe that I saw on Good Morning American, it is a Vegetable Dumpling soup.  Very good.  Well when I got the soup on to cook I had a pint of whipping cream I needed to use so I made cream puffs and whipped the cream  and after the puffs cooled put the whipped cream in the and sprinkled them with powdered sugar.  I thought I would fry some chicken tenders for my dogs dinner than.  I just go on and on.  I should have given the dogs a bath but really didn't want to so decided to cook most of the day.

Wow! 12 hours in between posts.  Hope all of you are okay!

Yesterday, Dave finally agreed that we needed a snow blower  :bduh.  So, I went to Home Depot and purchased one  :smile.  It works great  :shappy.  Dave used it twice yesterday.

The roads around here were a complete mess, yesterday.

Yesterday, Nathan had an indoor soccer game.  Oh my goodness.  It was complete madness in the parking lot.  Once we finally got inside, we found out that due to the weather, the games were pushed back by an entire half hour.  People in the morning must have not shown up on time.   
Nathan's game was supposed to start at 2:10 and didn't start until 2:40.  I have never seen that place so busy.

And then last night, we decided to go to church.

Today, I'm staying home and doing laundry all day.

Good morning.  I have to get ready to teach my class this morning.  The kindergartners take a lot out of me!  They are wonderful kids, though, and I really enjoy them.

I have been having some health problems lately.  Right now, I have my right leg from the knee to the toes wrapped in compression bandages becuase I have venous insuffiency.  That means my circulation is poor in that leg and it swells up.  This came out of nowhere.  My right index toe is also bad off and can't better because of the swelling.  I know that losing weight will help but am losing it very slowly.  Sigh.

I am embarrassed to be so fat and I feel so old.  sigh.  Please keep me in your prayers!  Thank you all so much.

He's made me shovel snow for 8 years and has never agreed to a snowblower no matter how much I complain that it hurts my back.  He shoveled snow and hurt his back, and well you know, we just had to get one.  Men! I'm not complaining, though!  :bduh :wink

Does anyone have Corelle dishes? If so, do you or do you not like them?

I have had Pfaltzgraff for 14 years and they are all chipped and scratched.  I've been looking at the Corelle website, and think that I may have found a pattern that I like, but wanted to ask for your opinion before making a final decision.

CAROLYN, I am so sorry that  you are having more problems with your leg.  I know WOODY on the OCD had horrible problems with her leg for quite a while with the swelling and pain.  I think the doctors have finally helped her and I hope you start feeling better too.

BETH, I would have told Dave to go buy the snowblower.  In this house hubby would have had a stroke if I said I was going to buy a snowblower, of course I wouldn't as I sure wouldn't know what to look for in one.   There are so many different kinds.  You are a mighty good wife!!!!!!!!!  We didn't get any of the snow up here thank goodness we lucked out this time. 

Well I do believe Miss KIM is going to be a  year older this week!!!!  So will have to get ready for a birthday party!!!!

I saw your post about Corelle dishes.  I have had a set, service for 16, (actually, two sets of 8) of the  "Symphony" (appropriate, huh!)  pattern Corelle dishes since we moved into our house 17 years ago.  They are still as beautiful as the day I got them.  We use them for everyday dishes and also for company, too.  The set includes 16 dinner plates, salad plates, cereal bowls, cups and saucers;  also 2 vegetable bowls and 1 platter.
I have even dropped a dish a time or two, and they have not broken.

I did have a set of 8 glasses, three sizes each, to match the "Symphony" Corelle dishes, but two of each set have broken over the years, so I have six of each set now. 

I also have a set of square "Symphony" corning ware baking dishes with glass lids , different sizes, that I have used for years, too. 

When I saw your post, I googled Corelle dinner ware, and found a replacement site.   I'm hoping I can replace some of my "Symphony" glassware!! :thumb

EDIT:  Beth, I forgot to mention that all the Corelle dishes are microwave and dishwasher safe, too!!

Beth - Prissy is absolutely right. Do not hesitate to buy Corelle. I've have two sets for years. They've been dropped, microwaved, washed in the dishwasher and used every day. They are are pretty as the day I got them. In fact, I used them for Christmas dinner and they looked beautiful. You won't go wrong with corelle Beth, no chipping, no cracking.

Hi sharon and shirley - I have to go out today although I really don't want to in this weather, but things need to be done. After that, I'm going to start (or have Matt start) to take furniture out of my living room.

Beth, everyone is right about the Corelle dishes. Just be warned!!! You will have them forever, so if you're afraid you'll get bored with them, don't buy them.  :bigsmile  Actually, I bought plain white umpteen years ago so I could mix them with dishes/decor of the season and have had fun with them that way and they are not boring.

Karen, this is the perfect chance for you to try another ski lesson.....when the guys are not around. And if your leg is okay by then.  :bang  The hardest part about a beginner lesson is learning to get on the rope.  :lmao

Hey SHARON, how do you like the name "Lemon Twilight"!!!  That is the color of the bedroom hubby painted yesterday.  I was scared but it turned out such a pale, pale yellow, very pretty with the white woodwork and white drapes  This room has huge windows and gets tons of sunshine when we get it so it is a cheerful room.

Beth - Corelle is great dishware. I have always had it.  I found out you can break a piece, but it is very hard to do. 

I have stoneware right now that I fell in love with but the pieces do chip and crack. If I could have found this pattern in Corelle, I would have bought it in a second.

Beth, I have Corelle in a pattern called "Mirage."  It's southwest colors, goes great with my ceramic floor.  We love it!  I have broken pieces before, but it's difficult.  For some reason, we've broken bowls. :bduh

I do like stoneware bowls to eat soup or oatmeal out of; it just tastes better! :lol  So I have about 4 of those I kept from an old set, and Justin and I use those when having soup.

Prissy,  are you talking about "Replacements Ltd?"  I used them a couple of times, always buying pieces that are slightly seconds.  If you try to buy the good stuff, they are SO EXPENSIVE!  And glasses are ridiculous. 

Prissy and Beth, I found my Corelle pattern on Ebay about a year ago as I wanted to expand my set, and it's retired.  If you watch, you can get great deals!  Much cheaper than Replacements Ltd. but I doubt if you find glasses, Prissy.   I've found that my Mirage glassware fades over time in the dishwasher, and they seem to break easily.

But the plates, since they hold up so well and look new even after several years of usage, are a great value on Ebay!!

BETH  -  Count me in.  CORELLE dishes are wonderful.  I had winter white Corelle for years.  They are sturdy and can be used in the microwave.  I was able to accent with placemats and/or some "festive" accessories. Karen,  My favorite color is green.  I have some shade of green in every room.  My girlfriend told me about this website  kid smart living  (http://www.kidsmartliving.com/ristunbtuin4.html) for plastic tumblers.  I have replaced all of my drinking glasses and ordered 3 sizes in green.  The kids use the 9 oz. small ones, I use the 16 oz. medium size ones, and Dave uses the 20 oz. big ones.  I have 8 of every size.

PRISSY, I love blue also!!!  My kitchen accents in Tennessee were blue than when redid my kitchen here I did it red and white and it wasn't long before I got tired of that and now it is blue and white!!!  I think blue is a cool and calming color.

SHARON, I was still full from breakfast all afternoon and didn't have my popcorn.  I ate the hamburger on a nice soft fresh Kaiser bun but than I really screwed up I decided to make malts to go with the hamburgers.  All those calories and I can feel the fat in my stomach.  Why oh why do I do this!!!!!!!!!!!  Have to go shopping for some will power for me.  I am headed to the shower and get my flannel pj's on. Didn't sleep well last night tried sleeping without my oxygen as the machine uses so much electricity and without it on I wake up everytime my husband gets up about 10 times a night.

Besides my plain white Corelle, I have a setting of four that my mom gave me that's a moose pattern, rather rustic. My favorite is a setting of four (for now) of a blueberry pattern from LLBean. That is my fave. I have several pieces of pottery that I have picked up here and there with blueberries on them, and a blueberry wreath (or two).  :wink  If anyone has a Bean catalog, the dishes are in there. I also have the blue and green rug in the catalog. If I could redecorate this place it would all be Bean stuff, I think.

I broke up with him yesterday. It was not a hard decision after what he said to me. Just not good. Let's just say he's not the guy I remembered and I will not compromise my beliefs for any man. However, a friend (that is a guy) from high school has been talking to me. We've been talking for hours. I mean ... until 3 in the morning. Things may be better in this relationship. We haven't moved it past friendship yet, but we'll see how things go. I'm not rushing into anything.

I have Corelle, too, Beth.  LOVE IT.  I've been using Corelle since the 70's and even have most of my old set of the Butterfly design.  I have newer ones, too, of course, but my design is discontinued.  I can't even remember what it's called.

Hello to all, I bring some news to you from Debi.
For all of who have been asking, Debi has given me the OK to tell you what has been happening in her life.  Alina her new little princess is doing fine after the setback she had, and Aisalynn is loving being a big sister :hugs
Debi has had a setback in her health.  The cancer has returned to her pancreas, and she has found the only thing open to her for treatment is more chemo, which she has decided against right now.  She will be travelling to California to seek alternative treatment, which she feels very good about :comfort

I had written this for Debi awhile back, just changed all the "I" to "We" cause I know this is how we all feel :hugg

We think of you with hope in heart,
You've been a friend right from the start,
We feel your pain, and hold you near,
We feel your hope, We feel your fear.

So I just finished shovelling, and the truck with all my worldly basement posessions pulls in unannounced.  It's brutal weather, slushy snow :bang they laid blankets over the new flooring, but holy crap that really threw me, a phone call would have been nice :bduh  Had to lock the cats up, they could get out the back door, and I was just unprepared I suppose.  I don't even want to look at all the boxes in there right now, it's like moving without moving.

I've decided to paint the panelling in the rec room, along with the brick fireplace, and the brick bar also.  Found a nice color for the panelling "Powell Buff" and a dark brown for the brick "Cabot Trail" then the mantle and top of the bar will be black :bouncy :bouncy

Well, tonight is the first night for Idol, should be interesting.  I'm not sure that I will be faithful to watching, but will give it a try.

We are in a deep freeze up here, hope all the shelters will be able to help the homeless, such a need especially in Toronto.  Our church does an out of the cold program as it's situated in the downtown core.

SHARON, breakfast was so yummmmmmmmmy this morning.  You are a real sweetheart to get up and have breakfast ready for us.  I guess I am just getting lazy.

A ton to do today, having "Cosy's angels~~~my sister, SIL and Al's cousin for dinner tonight.  We are all trying to eat healthy, so I'm making a sesame/ginger chicken salad with spinach, feta, raspberries and walnuts :yum the chicken breasts get marinated and baked in the dressing, then more dressing gets drizzled on the salad. I also found some bread crisps with pumpkin seeds and cranberries to have on the side.
Light cool whip and fresh fruit for dessert.

Good news about David Cook and Kim Caldwell.  :shappy I mean ... that's too bad. *wink wink*  :bigsmile
