Title: WELCOME NFL FOOTBALL FANS
Post by: woodstock854 on October 09, 2006, 04:17:53 AM
WELCOME NFL FOOTBALL FANS!!!!!

I see so many of you cheering on your favorite football team on the weekends, that I thought it would be fun have a thread to discuss the latest scores and standings, and brag about your favorite team....or commiserate together.

Being from Chicago, I have always been a Chicago Bears fan.  Even through the lean years.  I very much remember their exciting '85-'86 season, ending in their blow-out SuperBowl victory.  They have had many ups and downs since then, but the beginning of this season has been a Bears fan's dream.  :bouncy :bouncy :bouncy

With their wonderful victory against Buffalo 40-7 yesterday, the Bears start the season 5-0.  Their young quarterback has been very impressive, as their passing game has been, even though they are known as a running team.  Their kicker has made all 17 field goal attempts this season.  Everything seems to be going right.  Their hard work is paying off...and it is a joy to watch them each week!!  I can hardly wait for the next game!!!  :bouncy

Can't wait to hear who you have been watching!!!
Woodstock :bouncy

P.S. I wonder if Clay likes football.   :wink

Hello!

Thanks, Woody, for this thread.

I am from TX, and I'm a Dallas Cowboys fan.  I'm not really that much into football, but I've always cheered for the Cowboys and been excited to see them go to the Superbowl.  I remember the years with Roger Staubach and Drew Pearson and, of course, Troy Aikman and Emmitt Smith and that dapper coach, Tom Landry.  Hopefully, "America's Team" will recapture the glory they once had.

I started to be a football fan five years ago when I lived in Tennessee.  The TENNESSEE TITANS were really hot at that  time with Steve McNair as quarterback and Eddie George as running back.  Great team!!  Than two years ago they started letting all their good players go in other words they tore it a part.  The past two years I have been a New England Patriot fan and cheered them on!  I guess I am what you call a fickle football fan as this year the CHICAGO BEARS have captivated my heart and my attention with their fearless young quarterback Grosseman, the defensive line and their star kicker.  But I have to tell you my heart will always belong to BIG TOM BRADY!!!!!!!!!!!

:wave I've been a football fan for quite a few years. 1992 was the year i started to really watch football...yes, it was the Cincinnati Bengals :lol At the time Dave Schula was the head coach, the son of Don Schula, the former Miami Dolphins head coach. I had just missed catching the end of the Sam Wyche era as it's been called in Cincinnati. I believe Wyche was the head coach from 1984-1991? The Bengals had always been my grandfather's favorite football team and so i gravitated toward the Bengals. I used to not watch football, though. I watch just about any NFL game that is on Sunday afternoons that is carried on my local channels. The Bengals...of course!! I also catch the other game as well.

The very first football game i went to i never appreciated it :lol It was the early 1980's and Forrest Gregg was the head coach of the Bengals and the team was at the end of their long-streak of winning seasons, too. A lot of their players were becoming side-line coaches or sports broadcasters...one of their former players, Mike Reid, is a hit songwriter in Nashville. Boomer Esiason is one of the celebrated alumni, a national sports broadcaster now...but was the quarterback in the late '80s and into the mid '90s. Cris Collinsworth is another alumni of the Bengals...he is perhaps the most celebrated as he has spent his post-football days on the radio and on TV...mostly a TV commentator now but i used to listen some nights to his local sports radio show on WLW in Cincinnati. Bob Trumpy and Dave Lapham are both local celebrities/broadcasters that were former Bengals players.

The picture you see is a Bengals logo of course...the other pic is their stadium in Cincinnati. Named for the late originator of the team, Paul Brown. His son, Mike, is the head honcho of sorts down there when it comes to the Bengals. Paul Brown's other football team is, of course, the Cleveland Browns. How many people knew that? :smile

The Bengals loss 2 weeks ago has given them a 3-1 record so far...i hope that is their ONLY loss...but again, i hope when it's all said and done they are play-off bound where there final games mean something :yes

I was gone last weekend and didn't get a chance to post.

I am so happy to hear about all your favorite teams!!!

AC - Thanks for posting the schedule!!!

I MUST say that the Bears really surprised me last week.  I do not get ESPN (we have very limited cable...have ESPN2, though  :bduh) so I couldn't watch the game, but I listened to parts of it on Chicago radio. When they were losing 23-10 in the 4th quarter, I guess I kinda gave up.  I am embarrassed to say so.  But a loss every now and then humbles a team, and can help them in the long run.

When they pulled off the victory, it made me start to really believe they can go far.  The sign of true champions are the individuals or teams that can stay focused, never give up, and come from behind when needed.  They certainly did that, after a terrible first half.

My only regret is that I have heard some of the players talk about the SuperBowl in interviews, and it is far too early for that.

And...I wish football playoffs were more like baseball.  You lose one game and you're gone.  Everyone can have a bad game.  I wish it was the best of 3, or something like that.

Can't wait to see what tomorrow brings!!!

Big Old Dallas Cowboy fan here! Ever since I was a little girl, sitting at my aunts house for Thanksgiving Dinner...prepared and ready to be served AROUND the Cowboys game! Posters of Charlie Waters on the wall...memorabilia all around. I have been life long- yet always have lived in the Ohio/Indiana/Michigan area!

We still prepare Thanksgiving in my home around game time..and last year AND this year- Christmas travels too!
Honestly- due to work schedules and Cowboy schedule, we are staying home for Christmas this year and visiting family the weekend after.

I have traveled to Dallas a couple of years ago to see them play and toured the stadium..stood Right On the STAR!! I have been to Detroit, Cincinnatti, Cleveland, and Tennesee just to see them play when I could!

We went to the Troy Aikman, Rayfield Wright Hall of Fame induction this year in Canton! Awesome!! I have some fabulous pictures from games and player meetings!

My favorite is me and my husband with TONY ROMO's(Current backup and hopefully future starting QB) arm around me. (We make a cute couple! :lol)- My husband and I have met Jason Witten in person also. We have many player signatures on balls and photos from waiting and watching for them before games. We have stayed twice now, at the Players Hotel and have traveled with the Cowboy Touchdown Travel Club!

We have so much Cowboy stuff, our basement is done in both their colors and memorabilia!

When I met my husband 22 years ago, I knew it was true love. Another lifelong Cowboy fan right in my hometown...

So..this coming Monday Night- my rival 16 year old son's Team, the New York Giants play MY Team, the Dallas Cowboys! Don't anyone call...

it's like when Clay's on TV...we don't answer the phone!!

Lora

GO COWBOYS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Woodstock; Prissy; and Lora :wave

I agree about the football play-off's. There needs to be a better play-off system for football. There are too many good teams that have respectable records of wins over losses that don't make it because of mathematics or they lost one game to a specific ranked team and therefore all sights of the play-offs were grim. Last year, just because Cincinnati lost to Pittsburgh in a play-off game...that was it...done and over with as far as Cincinnati goes...so there should be more than one play-off game in football.

DA BEARS beat San Francisco 41-10!!!!!  :yahoo :yahoo :yahoo  They are now 7-0.  All of their points came in the first half.  They played flawless football the first half.  I didn't see the 2nd half, but I taped it.  I hope they can keep this going!!!

Hope your favorite team did well, too!!!

After a loss last week to the Giants, the Dallas Cowboys came back big time last night to beat Carolina, 35 to 14.  I think they broke a record for the most points scored in the fourth quarter!!

Woodstock!! Oh how it must feel to be 7-0 :smile.

Prissy!! :wave

Well, my Bengals played well yesterday but Michael Vick's slippery nature on the field as a fluid quarterback enabled the Falcons to beat my team 29-27. Therfore, Cincinnati is 4-3 and face the Baltimore Ravens and that is a team in their own division and so that game is a must-win even in this early stage of the season. There was an impressive touchdown late in the 4th quarter by Cincinnati that caused the score to become 29-27 and i felt there would be some sort of miracle again BUT after Cincinnati lost possession of the football, the Falcons did what any team would do, run the clock out and that was that...Cincinnati got the ball back with less than a minute to go and everything crashed down and Carson Palmer was sacked, something that had been prevented throughout the entire game. So, Cincinnati is 4-3...they need to play smarter football as a lot of us have grown so used to and not worry about racking up tons and tons of points because if that's in the forefront, then the basic's are lost.

AFTER A LOSS TO THE RAVENS LAST WEEK...I AM HOPING CINCINNATI CAN TURN THINGS AROUND TODAY WHEN THEY GO UP AGAINST THE CHARGERS OF SAN DIEGO. I AM A LITTLE WORRIED BECAUSE IT's WEST COAST FOOTBALL AND CINCINNATI ISN'T EXACTLY IN THAT DIVISION. THE RAVENS GAME LAST WEEK WAS A MUST-WIN BECAUSE BALTIMORE IS IN THE DIVISION WITH CINCINNATI, PITTSBURGH, AND CLEVELAND

AFC East:
New England
N.Y. Jets
Buffalo
Miami

AFC North:
Baltimore
Cincinnati
Cleveland
Pittsburgh

AFC South:
Indianapolis
Jacksonville
Houston
Tennessee

AFC West:
Denver
San Diego
Kansas City
Oakland

NFC East:
N.Y. Giants
Dallas
Philadelphia
Washington

NFC North:
Chicago
Minnesota
Green Bay
Detroit

NFC South:
New Orleans
Atlanta
Carolina
Tampa Bay

NFC West:
Seattle
St. Louis
San Francisco
Arizona

I EDITED IN THOSE DIVISIONS SO WE CAN HAVE A REFERENCE TO LOOK AT!! WHILE ALL GAMES ARE IMPORTANT, THE REALLY, REALLY IMPORTANT GAMES ARE THE ONES THAT ARE PLAYED BY TEAMS THAT ARE WITHIN THE SAME DIVISION. SUCH AS BALTIMORE AND CINCINNATI LAST WEEKEND.

POST FOOTBALL GAME CHECK-IN! CINCINNATI, DESPITE THE EXCELLENT START, LOST THE GAME, 41-49. NOW THEY ARE 4-5 ON THE SEASON. I GOTTA KEEP TELLING MYSELF IT's JUST A FOOTBALL GAME. A LOT OF HEART POUNDING AND A WIDE RANGE OF EMOTIONS WITH A GAME LIKE THAT! THE CRITICAL MOMENT OF THE GAME WAS THE INABILITY TO STOP THE CHARGERS IN THE 3rd QUARTER WHEN THEIR OFFENSE STARTED SHOWING LIFE. IN SPITE OF THE BENGALS ANSWERING WITH POINTS OF THEIR OWN, IN THE END IT WAS A FEW MISSED TACKLES AND CARSON PALMER, THE BENGALS QUARTERBACK, DID HAVE A FUMBLE AND THAT YOU COULD SAY ALLOWED THE CHARGERS TO SCORE OFF THE TURN-OVER TO TAKE THE LEAD, 42-38, AT THE TIME. CINCINNATI GOT A 3 POINT FIELD GOAL MAKING IT 42-41 UNTIL THE FINAL MINUTES OF THE 4th WHEN SAN DIEGO GOT A TOUCHDOWN, 49-41 WAS THE FINAL SCORE.

I am so happy about the Cowboys' win against Tampa Bay, and Tony Romo is my new hero!!!  Skip said he has been with the Cowboys for 2 or 3 years and now they are starting to make use of his talent as a quarterback.  Better late than never!!  I would love to see the Cowboys go all the way to the Superbowl.
I thought Kelly did a good job singing the National Anthem and enjoyed seeing Carrie at the halftime show.  I am very happy for their success.

I hope everyone has had a nice Thanksgiving.
Hugs to all,

AFC NORTH STANDINGS
RAVENS:  8-2
BENGALS: 5-5
STEELERS: 4-6
BROWNS: 3-7

CINCINNATI, AFTER THEIR WIN LAST WEEK, GOES 5-5 ON THE SEASON! AS WOODSTOCK MENTIONED, WE'RE GETTING DOWN TO THE END OF THE REGULAR SEASON AND EVERY GAME IS MAGNIFIED 20-30 TIMES MORE SINCE EACH GAME CARRIES IMPLICATIONS FOR OTHER TEAMS AS WELL.

LAST WEEK's WIN OF THE SAINTS OF NEW ORLEANS FEATURED A FINAL SCORE OF 31-16. CINCINNATI's 3 STRAIGHT LOSSES WERE TIGHT...THERE WEREN'T ANY BLOW-OUT LOSSES...BUT A LOSS IS A LOSS AND SO HOPEFULLY CINCINNATI CAN PULL A VICTORY AGAINST THE BROWNS OF CLEVELAND THIS SUNDAY!!

:confetti :confetti 30-0...THAT IS THE FINAL SCORE IN THE BENGALS-BROWNS GAME. CLEVELAND LOST AND ACCORDING TO THE CBS STAT's, IT WAS THE FIRST TIME CINCINNATI SHUT OUT CLEVELAND SINCE 1989. THERE WERE A LOT OF INTERCEPTIONS AND QUARTERBACK SACK's. THIS ALLOWS CINCINNATI TO GO 6-5 ON THE SEASON. BALTIMORE IS NEXT THURSDAY...THEN OAKLAND...

:clap IT WAS A RELATIVELY LOW SCORING GAME LAST NIGHT...A RARE THURSDAY NIGHT GAME. IT WAS NO BROADCAST NATIONALLY I DON'T THINK? IT WAS ON THE LOCAL NBC STATION, ON THE RADIO, AND I BELIEVE ON A SPECIAL SATELLITE CHANNEL...THE FINAL SCORE WAS 13-7. THE GAME, SINCE I MISSED THE SECOND HALF, APPARENTLY WAS A DEFENSIVE BATTLE. ONLY ONE TOUCHDOWN WAS GIVEN UP ON EITHER SIDE. THE BENGALS GOT 2 EARLY FIELD GOALS, GIVEN THE NATURE OF A "13" SCORE. THEY ARE OFF THIS SUNDAY AND SO I'LL WATCH WHATEVER GAME IS ON.

The Dallas Cowboys will play the NY Giants again, Sunday afternoon.  This could be a very important win for the Cowboys.

Our very own HavinaClayAffair, Lora, has met Tony Romo, the new hero QB of the Cowboys.  Here is a picture of Lora with Tony Romo on the left.  :bigsmile

Thanks Prissy!!! I told you he was CUTE!!!

My son is a Giant fan. Well, he was, till Tiki announced his retirement and it bummed him out. He is in a fantasy football league and I have been begging him to pick Tony as his QB..He came to me yesterday and told me "I did it"...I asked.."Did what?"

"Picked Tony for my starting QB...against the Giants! He'd better do good."

WOW! What a shocker! Eli Manning hasn't been all that hot recently. If Tony doesn't do well..I will  blame my son.

I MAY have a converted Cowboys fan son again!

I think I will go dig out the baby pictures of him in his Cowboy gear and Cowboy football!!!

Again Prissy! Thanks for offering to post the photo!! You have a Heart the Size of TEXAS!!!

Pammy - What is a Fantasy Football league???  :shrug

DA BEARS won today!!!!!  I must say....it was Defense and Special Teams once again that won it for them.  TOO many turnovers.  But they took advantage of some turnovers, themselves.  Hey....a win is a win.   :bouncy  But if they are going to go far in the playoffs, they better get their offense going again like in the beginning of the season.  Go Bears!!!!!

And....CONGRATS to all the Cowboy fans out there.    :clap :clap :clap  I'll bet you all were   :bite :bite :bite  What a game!!!!!

IT's HALF-TIME NOW DURING THE BENGALS-RAIDERS GAME! THE FIRST QUARTER CINCINNATI DOMINATED THE RAIDERS BUT BY THE MIDDLE OF THE SECOND QUARTER, THEY SLOWN DOWN THEIR PACE SOMEWHAT. OAKLAND HADN'T GOTTEN A TOUCHDOWN BUT AS THE SECOND QUARTER ENDED, THEY GOT A FIELD GOAL SO THE SCORE RIGHT NOW IS 14-3. HOPEFULLY BY THE END OF THE GAME CINCINNATI WILL BE 8-5 ON THE SEASON. CURRENTLY THEY ARE TIED WITH A LOT OF OTHER AFC TEAMS AT 7-5 SO THE OUTCOME OF ALL OF THOSE GAMES WILL PREDICT THE FUTURE PLAY-OFF PICTURE. RIGHT NOW CINCINNATI IS LEADING IN THE WILDCARD RACE. HOPEFULLY BALTIMORE LOSES. :yes

CINCINNATI GOT TWO TOUCHDOWNS AND HAVE BEEN MOVING THE FOOTBALL ALL OVER THE FIELD BUT AS PREVIOUSLY MENTIONED, THE FAST PACE SLOWED TOWARD THE MIDDLE OF THE SECOND QUARTER. THERE HAVE BEEN 5 TURN-OVER's IN THE GAME. 3 FROM CINCINNATI AND 2 FROM OAKLAND. CARSON PALMER, OUR QUARTERBACK, THREW TWO INTERCEPTIONS AND RUDI JOHNSON HAD A FUMBLE. OAKLAND HAD A FUMBLE AND AN INTERCEPTION.

WOODSTOCK: A FANTASY FOOTBALL LEAGUE TO THE BEST OF MY KNOWLEDGE IS LIKE A FANTASY BASEBALL LEAGUE? I DON'T KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT THEM BUT I WILL GUESS AND SAY IT's LIKE A GAME CREATED BY FANS OR SPORTS WATCHERS AND THEY DREAM UP THEIR OWN LEAGUE OF PLAYERS BUT I HAVE NO IDEA BUT I'VE HEARD OF THAT PHRASE BEFORE.

:shappy :shappy :clap :clap :clap Cincinnati won the game over Oakland!!! 27-10. The Raiders got a touchdown in the 4th quarter, giving them 7 more points. The Bengals, who appeared to have slown down near half-time, were back at it in full force in the second half scoring two more touchdowns

Rudi and Chad Johnson {no relation} and T.J {whose last name i can't spell} were the top recievers in the game. Each one getting over 100+ yards. Rudi Johnson may win a 4th consecutive AFC conference award based on his total recieving yards this season. Graham missed an extra point, causing the 27 score. With an extra point, it would've been a 28-10 victory.

The Bengals will face the Colts next, and it gives one hope that Cincinnati COULD win against Indianapolis given the way the Colts are playing in their game today, losing in a big way in the 4th quarter. New England is also losing. The thing that is ironic is that these teams with 7-5 records are all winning against the higher rated teams they're facing off against. Cincinnati's 27-10 win gives them am 8-5 record and so we'll see what happens with the other 7-5 teams today.

Hello Pepe :wave It was nice to see the loss of the Colts, though. I was wishing Baltimore would've lost because they're in the same division as Cincinnati. With New England's loss, that puts them in a pickle...the teams below them are now at a pace to eclipse them and make the play-off's.

THE COWBOYS WERE OUT PLAYED BY THE NEW ORLEANS SAINTS TO THE TUNE OF 42 TO 17. :cry  :cry

HOPEFULLY, THEY WILL BOUNCE BACK NEXT WEEK.

I just read in the newspaper yesterday that the coach of the New Orleans Saints used to be an assistant coach for the Cowboys, so, he knew a lot about how the Cowboys plan their plays.  This makes me feel better, for some reason. :bduh  I guess because the Cowboys maybe weren't playing so badly but were just up against a team and coach that knew what to expect.

Hugs,
Prissy

WELL, CINCINNATI HAD A RARE APPEARANCE ON MONDAY NIGHT FOOTBALL LAST NIGHT. THEY LOST TO THE COLTS, I BELIEVE THE FINAL SCORE WAS 34-16. I WAS LISTENING TO SOME OF IT ON THE RADIO ON MY WAY TO WORK AND WHEN I LEFT MY CAR THE SCORE WAS 17-10, THE COLTS LEADING AT HALF-TIME. I WAS LISTENING TO THE RE-CAP ON THE RADIO THIS MORNING AND APPARENTLY THERE WERE LOTS OF FUMBLES AND CARSON PALMER WAS SACKED 4 TIMES SO THERE WAS VERY LITTLE PROTECTION OF PALMER OBVIOUSLY. I'M KIND OF GLAD I MISSED THE GAME LAST NIGHT :yes

For those interested: here is a link to the players selected to the ProBowl, both AFC and NFC

http://www.nfl.com/probowl/nfc_roster

Tony Romo, and Roy Williams, are going, but not as starters.

DeMarcus Ware and Matt McBriar, both ARE starters from the Dallas Cowboys!!

Ya know what I JUST realized...

I have ALL of their AutoGraphs on a football (or photos) from our last trip to see the Cowboys play the Titans this year!!

Awesome to me!

THANKS FOR THE LINK, LORA!! I CLICKED ON THE AFC ROSTER AND PUT IT's LINK HERE FOR QUICKER REFERENCE. I'M GLAD TO SEE SEVERAL BENGALS MAKING IT THERE. I SAW THAT PEYTON MANNING IS THE PICK FOR THE AFC QUARTERBACK. OURS, CARSON PALMER, IS A RESERVE QUARTERBACK.

CHAD JOHNSON IS PICKED AS THE STARTING WIDE RECIEVER, HE's ALSO FROM THE BENGALS. WILLIE ANDERSON IS ALSO SELECTED AS A STARTING TACKLE FOR US.

Ooooo... I don't know why I had never seen this board before.  Totally cool.  Okay... so I used to be a Seahawks fan cause I used to live in Washington, but now I live in Texas and am engaged to an avid Cowboys fan.  Living in Dallas, its advisable to be a Cowboy fan.  LOL

So anyhoo, like two months ago, they had a fundraiser here for the United Way and I was trying to win tickets to the game for when my kids would be in town during Thanksgiving, but... I won the tickets for the Cowboys v. Saints game.  So I was there for the slaughter, but admits, I left at the end of the 3rd quarter.  I just couldn't watch anymore.

Thank goodness we bounced back this last week.  And yay for Romo making it to the Pro Bowl!  Woohoooooooo!!

IT'S HALF-TIME AS OF RIGHT NOW DURING THE CINCINNATI-PITTSBURGH GAME!! IT HAS BEEN A BRUTAL GAME IN THAT PITTSBURGH's DEFENSIVE LINE IS JUST TOO SOLID...THE GAME AS FAR AS POINTS GO IS CLOSE. PITTSBURGH LEADS 7-3 OVER CINCINNATI...HALF-TIME IS ALMOST OVER. HOPEFULLY CINCINNATI CAN COME OUT AT A HIGHER VELOCITY! THEY GAINED SOME STEAM IN THE LAST 2 MINUTES OR SO OF THE SECOND QUARTER RESULTING IN THE 3 POINT FIELD GOAL.

Misha and Philly - Glad you found this thread!!!

Well, the regular season is wrapped up and playoff berths set.

The Bears suffered a terrible loss yesterday, but it does not change the playoff picture for them, at all. They won their division and conference, and is the #1 seed in the NFC, has a first  round by, and home field advantage throughout.

They have not played well in the last few games, so I am hoping they can recover and get back to the way they were playing earlier in the season and kick some butt in the playoffs.  I always hate to see a team that did so well throughout the whole season lose early in the playoffs.

GO BEARS!!!!!

I heard the sad news today that the Denver Broncos cornerback, Darrent Williams, was killed by drive by shooting last night.  How sad for his family and all the Broncos fans.

Good luck to all your teams....until they meet the Bears, that is.   :wink

Even though the Packers faltered this year, we are still loyal fans! What other franchise Can fill their stadium to overflowing every single home game (even the pre-season) every single year? What other team has a wait list of 42,000 for season tickets? A phenonenon in this age! My son-in-law signed up 7 years ago & was told maybe his children MIGHT have a chance.  :whoot  The only team in the NFL owned by the town and the citizens of the state. No greedy owner can sell us and ship up out. So Cheeseheads across this land, I salute you! :clap :clap :clap

#1 - We don't hate on anybody.  Especially if they are just rooting for their favorite team.

#2 - Even though I know we (Dallas) have a very very long shot at making it to the Superbowl, I hate to say it... they are likely going to get creamed playing against Seattle (my original home team).

Actually... since they are my two teams... I can't lose in this upcoming game because I am rooting for both teams.

SEAHAWKS - 21
COWBOYS - 20
:cry  :cry  :cry

This was quite a game.  Lots of fumbles and incomplete passes.  I can see why each team was 9 and 7 going in. The Cowboys had it in the bag and then Tony Romo fumbled holding the ball for the final field goal kick.  He tried to run in for a touchdown, but didn't make it.  I know he is heartbroken.

Lora,
I know you are not happy and neither am I.  But in all honesty, the Cowboys have not played like a Superbowl team, but I was really hoping this would be the year. :hugs

Well look at it this way....  I don't think the Seahawks are going to make it to the Superbowl either.

I hate to say this, but Dallas was the team that played better except for those fumbles.  I think Dallas lost the game, rather than the Seahawks won the game.  If that makes any sense.

At least Dallas played better this year than last year and hopefully next year Romo will calm down a bit.

Half-time during the Patriots-Jets Wild Card game! As of now, the Patriots are leading 17-10 over the Jets. It was shown that Tom Brady joins an elite club with that last touch-down pass before half-time. That pass was his 10th touchdown pass in the post season...notching one higher than John Elway.

Woody, the Bears & Packers have a long history, but alot of Packer fans are rooting for the Bears this year to go all the way (including me).!

Seattle Seahawks? The people of WI have a very bad taste in their mouths for Mike Holmgren. He pulled some crap that didn't sit well around here. Unfortunately for me and many other Wisconsinites that clouds our like or dislike of his team now.

It's the Indianapolis Colts and the Chicago Bears in the Superbowl.  I think it will be an exciting game.  I'm still hoping that next year it will be the Dallas Cowboys.

Prissy

Prissy- Now that Bill Parcells has retired...Nope, no longer the Cowboys Coach as of today, and part of the coaching staff has left also, it could be for another loooonnnnggg year.

Wonder if Romo will hang onto his starting position. I would expect Drew Bledsoe will be moving on to start somewhere else.

A Cowboy no more: Parcells leaves Dallas, retires from coaching
By JAIME ARON, AP Sports Writer
January 22, 2007

IRVING, Texas (AP) -- Bill Parcells could have returned to the Dallas Cowboys for one more shot at becoming the first coach to lead three teams into the Super Bowl.

He could have come back to try ending the longest playoff drought in the franchise's proud history. Or he could have come back to finish what he started in developing quarterback Tony Romo and a 3-4 defense.

Instead, 15 days after a gut-wrenching playoff loss in Seattle, Parcells decided Monday to call it a career, ending a four-year run in Dallas. Over 19 seasons in the NFL, Parcells led teams to three Super Bowls, winning two championships.

"I am retiring from coaching football," Parcells said in a statement. "I want to thank Jerry Jones and Stephen Jones for their tremendous support over the last four years. Also, the players, my coaching staff and others in the support group who have done so much to help. Dallas is a great city and the Cowboys are an integral part of it. I am hopeful that they are able to go forward from here."

Known for a gruff demeanor and colorful quotes, Parcells leaves with the ninth-most wins in NFL history and a career record of 183-138-1. He was 34-32 in Dallas, counting two playoff losses. He had one year left at more than $5 million on a contract extension signed last January.

"I am in good health and feel lucky to have been able to coach in the NFL for an extended period of time," the 65-year-old coach said.

Although he failed to make the Cowboys champions again, Parcells leaves the Cowboys better than he found it. The club went from three straight 5-11 seasons before he arrived to making the playoffs twice in four years: his first season, 2003, and his last.

Parcells expected big things in 2006 and, thanks to the emergence of Romo, Dallas had a two-game division lead in December. Then the Cowboys lost four of their final five games, including the last three. The capper came against the Seahawks after Romo bungled the hold of a short field goal with a little more than a minute left.

"I did the best I could," Parcells said following that game. "But it wasn't quite good enough."

The going theory was that Parcells wouldn't end his career that way. The longer he waited to make an announcement, the likelier it seemed that he would return -- especially since he was going to his office every day.

Then came Monday's statement via a morning e-mail. He didn't even hold one last news conference to entertain with old stories and witty lines.

"I will never leave this game with anything but good feelings about it," Parcells said during a Jan. 3 conference call. "It's been a great experience for me, and it's also been a lot of fun. I've met a lot of good people: players, coaches, owners, personnel guys, guys that I like."

Now team owner Jerry Jones will have to find someone o pick up where the Big Tuna left off. Jones was not immediately available for comment. The team said he, too, would be releasing a statement.

"We're losing one of our all-time great coaches in our profession," Chicago Bears coach Lovie Smith said.

The next coach will be only the seventh in team history and the sixth hired by Jones.

He's given no indication of what kind of coach he'd hire next, always saying he wanted Parcells back. While Jones waited for Parcells to decide, four other teams picked new coaches and a fifth, Oakland, is well into its search.

Tom Landry made the Cowboys coaching job synonymous with winning during his 29 years, then Jimmy Johnson and Barry Switzer kept it up by combining to win three Super Bowls.

But the Cowboys haven't even won a playoff game since 1996, under Switzer. Chan Gailey, Dave Campo and now Parcells couldn't end the skid.

Jones hired Johnson and Switzer because he knew them and they were successful in college. Gailey and Campo were successful NFL coordinators who'd never been a head coach. Parcells was an easy choice once he decided to give up television and get back into coaching.

Jones could go for proven commodities like Tennessee's Jeff Fisher or Bill Cowher, recently resigned from Pittsburgh, but both would require compensation for their teams and massive salaries. He might also chase a big-name college coach, from Notre Dame's Charlie Weis, Oklahoma's Bob Stoops to Southern California's Pete Carroll, who replaced Parcells in New England a decade ago.

Jones also might pursue Chicago defensive coordinator Ron Rivera, or former NFL coaches like San Diego defensive coordinator Wade Phillips or San Francisco offensive coordinator Norv Turner. Turner would be a popular choice locally; he called plays for Dallas' Super Bowl team in 1992 and remains close to Troy Aikman.

All candidates will have to accept Jones being the general manager. That might have driven away others before, but four years of avoiding ego clashes with Parcells likely has changed his reputation.

The next coach also will face a decision of what to do about receiver Terrell Owens, who is due a roster bonus in March. T.O. certainly isn't Parcells' problem any more.

The first time Parcells walked away from coaching, his heart was an issue. The next time he supposedly was content that coaching was out of his system.

He turned down several chances to return before accepting Jones' offer. He said he took it because he liked the challenge of trying to make the Cowboys champions again, comparing it to playing on the main stage instead of being a lounge act.

After four well-paid years, Parcells could be serious about retiring this time. He's already built a home in Saratoga, N.Y., to spend his post-football days near his family and the racetrack.

Parcells' influence will remain because of all the coaches who worked for him, from three-time Super Bowl champion Bill Belichick of New England to New Orleans' Sean Payton, this past season's coach of the year. Tom Coughlin of the Giants and Romeo Crennel of Cleveland also paid their dues under Parcells.

"Bill's an excellent football coach and a very good friend," Coughlin said. "We're going to miss Bill Parcells on the sideline and we'll miss him in the NFC East. I look forward to the continuation of our friendship at a different level now. I think Bill's looking forward to having the opportunity to do some of the things he truly wants to do. I wish him well."

Parcells' specialty in football was defense. His greatest trait as a coach, though, was his ability to turn around downtrodden clubs.

All four teams he coached had losing records before he arrived, but all four were in the playoffs by his second season. No other coach has taken that many franchises to the postseason.

AP Sports Writer Gregg Bell in Seattle and AP writer David Porter in New Jersey contributed to this report.

Thanks Jerry!

I heard the news yesterday morning.  I'm still wondering if Bill Parsells was "encouraged" to retire by Jerry Jones.  His lackluster record really suggests that a new coach is needed.

The Cowboys had Coach Tom Landry for 29 years.  Since Jerry Jones entered the picture, there have been six coaches.  I think this is one of the problems.  No continuity!

Here's hoping :cross that the Cowboys find the right coach and have a comeback next year!

Prissy

PS:  Lora, we will just have to wait and see!  I do hope Tony Romo can become a star quarterback for the Cowboys.  (But let someone else hold the ball for Field Goal kickoffs!) :wink

It's Superbowl weekend, everyone!!!!!!!

Just have to share some things....

As you know, I live in Illinois, grew up in Chicago, thus...........a BIG BEARS fan.  I am SO excited they made it to the Superbowl!!!!!

The principal at the school I work at LOVES the Bears, so we have been having related activities.

The foyer showcases are filled with Bears that the kids made of construction paper and decorated in Bears uniforms. :bouncy

They play the Bears Superbowl Shuffle CD on the intercom every morning as we are entering our building. :bouncy

We are having our second Bears "dress-up" day tomorrow.  We all wear our Bears sweatshirts or whatever we have.  If nothing else, we wear Orange and Blue.

AND, we are having a BEARS assembly tomorrow.  The kids all learned the Superbowl Shuffle (circa 85-86 Bears) in PE today.  The WHOLE school will do the Shuffle tomorrow together, and sing the Fight song.   :bouncy

LOADS of fun. Even if they don't win, I am very proud of their season.

OH.....and our principal put up this poster on the office door:

C Count
O On
L Losing
T the
S Superbowl

 :lmao :lmao :lmao

I don't mean to offend any Colts fans.  Just wanted to share the spirit.   :bouncy

GO BEARS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The BIG day is here!!!  I'm both excited  :bouncy and nervous.   :bite  The Bears need to get off to a good start, IMO, so I hope that happens for them.  SO glad they are not playing in Chicago, as Illinois is in the deep freeze right now.  It wouldn't be ANY fun to be sitting out there watching the game.  Sunny Miami sounds MUCH better.

In honor of my team, I thought I would share the words to their song with all of you.

BEAR DOWN - CHICAGO BEARS
MAKE EVERY PLAY CLEAR THE WAY TO VICTORY
BEAR DOWN - CHICAGO BEARS
PUT UP A FIGHT WITH A MIGHT SO FEARLESSLY

WE'LL NEVER FORGET THE WAY YOU THRILLED THE NATION
WITH YOUR T FORMATION

BEAR DOWN - CHICAGO BEARS
AND LET THEM KNOW WHY YOU'RE WEARING THE CROWN
YOU'RE THE PRIDE AND JOY OF ILLINOIS
CHICAGO BEARS - BEAR DOWN

Thea - If they win tomorrow, I'm counting on you singing with me.   :wink :music

HELLO!

Football season is here again!  And I'm still rooting for the Dallas Cowboys.  They did win their first game against the NY Giants, 45 to 35, but it was a bit of a struggle.  The Giants' offense was awesome!

It's half-time during the Bengals-Browns game...as of now the score is 27-21...Cleveland is leading. Oh how i wish the Bengals would score again...hold the Browns to a three and out...then Cincinnati score again and cause Cleveland to have to score twice to take the lead. The see-saw back and fourth lead changes during the first half is nerve-racking.

Cincinnati won their first game of the season...last week's Monday Night game. Again, i am hoping Cleveland will tire out in the second half...there was 1 turn-over in the game and one fumble, both against Cincinnati and those incidents are what i think has kept the game so close.

Cincinnati lost to the Browns in a tight game, 51-45. I thought for sure that Cincinnati was going to have a dramatic win but Carson Palmer threw an interception with several seconds left in the game and that was it. The loss gives Cincinnati a 1-1 record so far.

Well, today is the day Cincinnati attempts to go 2-1 as they take on the Seattle Seahawks. The game today for Cincinnati will be 4pm...the kick-off for those games typically do not get underway until 4:15...some cases 4:30. The 1pm game hosts the Steelers and the 49ers. The Sunday night game on NBC i will not be missing, either. So i hope Cincinnati walks off with a victory. Last weeks game against the Browns shows that the Bengals are capable of racking up the points...so hopefully Cincinnati carries over the same "plan" but incorporates some defensive moves. As anyone could see, the game last week contained so many opportunities for Cincinnati to shut the game down and cause the Browns to scramble for a victory but instead they got a big lead and lost their momentum...psychologically feeling that they didn't need to be aggressive anymore with such a secured lead. That's always the case when teams have a big lead...they get comfortable and therefore become softer on defense.

Well...last night's game was certainly something...i thought for sure that Cincinnati would've walked away with a win but as the clock winded down to 1 minute, Seattle scored a touchdown giving them the lead over Cincinnati 24-21. Well, as most of us are used to, Cincinnati got the ball with less than a minute to go. After the punt from Seattle, one of the Bengals players caught the ball and was running down the field and in a move that you only see in probably movies or a fan's worse nightmare, the runner fumbled and Seattle jumped on the ball and ran the clock out to give Cincinnati it's second straight loss so now they're 1 win, 2 losses. This upcoming game is against the New England Patriots...perhaps Cincinnati can pull an upset or a surprise and win that game? Anything's possible...Tom Brady isn't totally invincible. The last two games, Cincinnati made mental mistakes which cost them both games...in a way, Cincinnati should be 3-0 instead of 1-2.

Cincinnati will play the New England Patriots Monday night. I won't be home to watch it so i'll catch the score and other things when i get home from work.

Brett Favre of the Green Bay Packers made NFL history today. I was watching the game between the Packers and the Vikings and seen the touchdown throw from Favre in the first quarter that set the new record for most touchdown passes by a quarterback. Favre had been tied with Dan Moreno with 420...today Favre got his 421st and his 422nd touchdown pass...the only active quarterback even close to catching Favre is Colts quarterback, Peyton Manning.

Update: Cincinnati lost their Monday night game against the Patriots, 34-13. When i left for work, the score was 10-7, Cincinnati was trailing. So, with the loss, Cincinnati is 1-3...there is hope...the next several games are not against high caliber teams and so Cincinnati should defeat the teams they play the next several weeks and get a more respectable showing.

DALLAS COWBOYS WIN OVER BUFFALO, 25 to 24.

This was a squeaker game.  Cowboys trailed the whole game!  Lots of interceptions by Buffalo.  Finally, a field goal and then Buffalo called time out and the Field goal had to be kicked again.  And the kicker made it both times!!

I was at orchestra and missed the first half, but I got home in time to watch and do some laundry.  That is my routine and the Cowboys win.  A friend even called to be sure I was doing laundry!! :lol

I'm watching Cincinnati and Kansas City! At the moment, Cincinnati caused a fumble in the end zone so the Chiefs didn't score a touchdown. I'll be watching the Cowboys game as well...it shows that it airs at 4pm today. I hope Cincinnati beats Kansas City...at the moment, the Chiefs lead 10-7.

Update: The Chiefs got a touchdown, lead it now 17-7. Carson Palmer through 2 interceptions so far. This may be an off-season for Cincinnati...they could end up losing the game seeing as how ineffective the defense is playing at the moment.

Update: Well, with less than 8 minutes to go in the 4th quarter, the Chiefs just got another touchdown and lead it 27-10 and so with Cincinnati down by three possessions with not much time on the clock i don't see how they're going to win this. So, with a loss, they will go 1-4...there's 16 games in a season and so at worse, Cincinnati can try and muster up a winning season even if they don't make it to the post season...11 more games to go in the season and this game was "suppose" to be a win for Cincinnati given the Chief's lack of success.

At long last Cincinnati won a game...so now they are 2-4. The game didn't look good for Cincinnati at the beginning...at half-time they trailed the New York Jets 20-10. Then something of a spark happened...gradually snowballing into a come from behind victory. Cincinnati was able to get a field goal, 20-13. Then the Jets were able to get a field goal, 23-13. Then Cincinnati caused some turn-overs which led to the remainder of their scoring. The game looked as if it could be a tie, at one point the Jets trailed by 8 points, 31-23, however a late interception by Cincinnati enabled Cincinnati to score 7 more points, by now it was 38-23. In the remaining minutes of the 4th quarter, Chad Pennington threw a long pass for a touch down, and they went for what is called a 2 point conversion instead of the extra point field goal. They succeeded and the score was now, Cincinnati 38 and the Jets 31 and that's how the score remained as Cincinnati went on to break their 3 game losing streak. The game last week should've been a must-win as well...had Cincinnati won, they'd be the owners of a 3-3 record, based on the outcome of yesterday's game, instead of being 2-4. This means they have to win 2 games to be even, and then go from there...we'll see what happens.

The Bengals play the Steelers today at 1pm on CBS...coming off a loss, Pittsburgh no doubt will be out for the kill while Cincinnati coming off a win will no doubt be attempting to do whatever to win their second game in a row and that's scary because Cincinnati kills itself with penalties. Although i feel Pittsburgh isn't penalized as much as they should be with a lot of their brutal plays, Cincinnati is almost always called for cheap shot plays from the referee's.

The New England Patriots play the Washington Redskins at 4pm today on FOX.

Update: It's the middle of the second quarter...the score is 14-3, Steelers are leading. I don't understand why Cincinnati is allowing Pittsburgh's receivers to be so wide open. It's mind-numbing.

Update: It's half-time...the Steelers lead 21-6. If Cincinnati loses the game, they will be 2-5 and i can't see anyway they can climb back into things. Although Cincinnati is only down by two touchdowns, it's a very steep hill to climb given Cincinnati's soft defense by comparison to Pittsburgh's.

Over on FOX, the 4pm game is the Cleveland Browns.  Prissy: I had turned the night game on and seen the score so i didn't bother watching a blowout. I had the game on the radio and listened to it. I knew the Cowboys would win because time-wise there was just no way the Eagles could come back. I had fallen asleep in the third quarter of the Patriots game. Yes, it was exciting but i was so sleepy...so i woke up mid-way through the third quarter of the Cowboys game and seen the score and didn't bother watching it since the game wasn't a close one. Cincinnati is 2-6 with their loss against Buffalo. This just isn't their year...Chad Johnson committed several errors, which is uncharacteristic of him. The hightlight of the game for Cincinnati was the punt return for a touchdown that at the time allowed Cincinnati to gain the lead.

It was a very unique Bengals game. I was fully prepared for the team to self-destruct but something happened. They played shut-out defense through the entire game up until the last minutes of the 4th quarter but by that time, the Ravens couldn't comeback. The quirk of this game was the Bengals scored no touch-downs, winning 21-7. Yes...you saw that correctly...field goal kicker Shane Graham kicked 7 field goals, mounting up the Cincinnati score. The Ravens got a touchdown but by the time they did, Cincinnati was leading with 21 points. This is Cincinnati's third win...where was this style of defense the last couple of games. Some have said the game today was as a result of some key players playing to their ability for a change. If anything, Cincinnati could try and have a winning season even if they don't make the play-off's.

:wave Those are College Football teams...what you are reading on here are Professional Football teams encompassing the National Football League, NFL. There are two conferences in the NFL...there's the National Football Conference and the American Football Conference. As with baseball, too, there are two leagues: The National League and the American League. The Cincinnati Bengals are in the AFC North along with the Cleveland Browns, Pittsburgh Steelers, and the Baltimore Ravens.

I found these for anyone who will find them funny...since this is the NFL thread i'm posting it here...parodies of John Madden. I like Madden...but these are too funny because the impression's are dead-on...especially the vocal imitation and body movements...  :roflmao :roflmao :roflmao

MADDEN POPCORN MAKER (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q1v52f1TrWg)

MADDEN SKIT (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2Ktx672kNao&feature=related)

MADDEN ON THE BUS (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AkQmTblQ-8E)

Okay, one more...this is the real John Madden's voice on an actual football game...his voice is more sedate and isn't as boisterous as it is if he's trying to talk over a large crowd...but these are what comedians pick up on when they impersonate Madden...

MADDEN BOOTLEG PLAY (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SzfcMX84YGM)

If you can make out the writing after you double-click the thumbnail picture, this is the 2007 schedule for Sunday Night Football on NBC, which stars Al Michaels and John Madden...the Bengals play Sunday Night Football on my birthday this coming December 2...

You're an hour behind Ohio...so the Cowboys play at 4pm here...i don't know if the game will be carried here in Ohio or not. I may watch Brett Favre and the Packers if that's carried instead. The night game is the Patriots and the Bills i think? At the moment, Cincinnati and Arizona are tied 7 to 7. The Cardinals had scored a touch down based on an interception...the Bengals had the lead for most of the 1st quarter but Arizona tied it up.

This is an edit...there have been too many turn-overs by Cincinnati in this game. They're in the third quarter and the score is 28-13 and Arizona looks to be in shape to put the game away if they score again because i can't possibly see Cincinnati scoring 2 touch downs and a field goal to get back in it...the time right now is 3pm.

Well, this is my second edit...the time is now 3:14pm...Cincinnati is back in the game, trailing 28-20. Carson Palmer, our quarterback for Cincinnati, threw a long completed pass into the end zone...Arizona reviewed the catch but no matter, the touchdown stood. So hopefully this is the turn around Cincinnati needed to control the game again as they did in the first quarter.

Well, it was another Bengals loss, 35-27, at the hands of the Arizona Cardinals. So Cincinnati is mathematically out of the post season with a 3-7 record. It would've been good having a 4-6 showing but as it is, it's a 3-7 this late in the season with almost a month of games left before the post season play-off's start. New England as of now is the #1 team in all of football as far as wins and losses, 10-0. The two teams that rank below them are Green Bay, 9-1, and Dallas with a 9-1 record and both of those teams are in the NFC where as New England is in the AFC.

AC,
Thanks for the standings of the teams:

New England:  10 and 0

Green Bay:    9 and 1

Dallas:  9 and 1

Dallas's only loss was to the best team, New England.

You're welcome! I was glancing over the AFC and NFC charts at NFL.com and there are some divisions, mainly the NFC South which has no really breakout team representing that division...there are only a few teams with any big numbers this season making it less competitive in the stretch. I mean, with New England 10-0, even if they were to lose 2 or 3 games, it wouldn't affect them but i, like i've heard from broadcasters, feel that the Patriot's coach and the team as a whole are determined to go undefeated for the entire season and i really can't see any team that will give them much of a fight...the game last night, it was like 28-7 i think late in the second second quarter and there was just no real dominance from Buffalo...and the points wouldn't stop coming...i actually clicked off the football game on TV last night because it was so boring. I turned the radio version on, with Bob Trumpy and his partner, and listened to the last quarter on the radio...when all was said and done New England won 56-10...who scores 56 points? What team ALLOWS the opposition to score 56 points? Buffalo's did...56 points in a football game is not uncommon with a good football team but it isn't the norm to run off 56 points in the frame of a football game...at the most, 28 or 35 may be a big win...but 56!?

The 3-7 Bengals of Cincinnati will play another home game today. The team they play this time are the Tennessee Titans. I won't make any predictions since there were 3 or 4 games that Cincinnati should've won. Analyzing the scoring, the losses Cincinnati has had this season were by defensive mistakes...enabling the other team to control the football long enough to score points. There were several games where the defense missed a lot of tackles...not aggressive enough. This is the rest of the schedule...

week 12     Sun, Nov 25       Tennessee      1:00 PM ET
week 13    Sun, Dec 02    @ Pittsburgh    8:15 PM ET
week 14    Sun, Dec 09       St. Louis        1:00 PM ET
week 15    Sat,  Dec 15      @ 49ers        8:15 PM ET  {NFL network; local TV}
week 16    Sun, Dec 23      Browns      1:00 PM ET

Cincinnati won today 35-6 over the Tennessee Titans. I am not having high hopes for the Pittsburgh game this Sunday...i don't know why they can't play the other teams first and deal with Pittsburgh during the last game of the season because i have a feeling next Sunday will be a loss. So, now Cincinnati is 4-7. I saw where New England won over the Eagles...it was so close to an Eagles win.

Jessica Simpson Brings Tony Romo Home For Thanksgiving
DALLAS, Texas (November 26, 2007) –

Of all the things Jessica Simpson is thankful for, it appears a new boyfriend is at the top of the list.

The blonde bombshell is dating NFL star Tony Romo, a source close to Simpson confirmed to Access Hollywood.

In fact, Jessica even brought the Dallas Cowboys QB home to meet the family for Thanksgiving, albeit a day late, the source added.

Because Tony’s team was taking on the New York Jets on Thanksgiving Day, Jess’ family was reportedly more than happy to postpone their holiday feast until the following day, when Tony, Jessica and the rest of the Simpson clan got together at her grandparents’ home in Waco, Texas.

Jessica is just the latest starlet who has been romantically linked to the football star. Following his break-up from country cutie Carrie Underwood, Romo has reportedly been seen getting cozy with the likes of Britney Spears, Brit’s pal Alli Sims and “One Tree Hill” siren Sophia Bush.

Coincidentally, before dating Underwood earlier this year, back in November 2006, Jessica was the first celebrity Tony was linked to when he first burst onto the NFL scene.

He seems to love the beauties!

Gotta love him though, that dang twinkle of a smile just does it every time..along with some great touchdown passes!

GO COWBOYS!!!!!!!!!!!!

Bring on the Packers!

This game was on the NFL channel, but luckily, our local Channel 27 carried the game!!  A lot of the game the Cowboys were ahead 10 points and that's how the game ended.  Brett Favre, star quarterback for the Green Bay Packers, hurt his throwing arm after being sacked early in the game.  The back up quarterback actually did pretty well.  Green Bay was the only other team with one loss.  I believe that only the Patriots with no losses are ahead of the Cowboys.  Maybe a Cowboy/Patriot Superbowl!  :bigsmile

I just watched the last quarter of the Patriots/Ravens game!  Baltimore really gave the Patriots a "run for their money."  But the Patriots came back and got a touchdown with less than a minute left in the game.  The Ravens had about 44 seconds to make a serious play.  A "Hail Mary" pass at the end was just short of the goal line and the clock was at 00.

The New England Patriots are still undefeated;  12 and 0.  And the Dallas Cowboys rank second with 11 and 1.

Cincinnati won their game against the Rams, 19-10. There was a point in the game where it looked as if St Louis was going to take control of the game and take the lead but the defense stopped the plans of the Rams and was Cincinnati was able to get a field goal, going up 19-10, and securing the victory.

The Colts play the Sunday night game tonight on NBC.

Although I have no cool graphics to add to my post...imagine them being BIG and BRIGHT...Just like the Star in Texas!!!!

OK- Some of you know I was at that game for my Birthday gift....and Tony did NOT fail me!!

It started bad and looked bad throughout the whole game...there were glimmers of greatness but NOT the same Cowboy team from even a week before..

God Loves Marion Barber as much as I do- 3 TDs!!...Jason really worked what he had to get in there..T.O. did NOT have a great game and from watching on the field,, was NOT open most of the time. Patrick Crayton had a real beauty of a catch ...right in front of us on our side of the field. IT really was awesome to watch in person. Amazing catch and GREAT throw!

I will sum it up by saying that the Lions fans had a real good time during that game...until the end.

There were a few drunk guys in front of us that kept turning around to rib us..so, being the sweet kind person that I am..every chance I had, I screamed in their ears!

Near the end, with 4 min 18 sec left, the one turned around and started to poke me in the chest, suggesting I buy a New Jersey with a new team..(Bite me buddy!)...and I said and did nothing except to say, the game ain't over...

And when it was..I POKED him in the back of the head..Told him "I was glad he had a great time at the party, but it's over now, and its time to go home!" I, had a WONDERFUL time!! THANK YOU!""

and I DID!!

WAy to GO COWBOYS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I was glad to read your posts about the game.  I was playing in an orchestra for three church services yesterday morning, and the score was 10 to 7 when I got home!
Marion Barber is amazing.  The one touchdown where he ran straight through the Lions defense was just amazing!  No one touched him!!!
What can we say about the Cowboys???  They play a mediocre game and still win!  I'm really  hoping for a Superbowl match up with the Patriots!!!

Here is a link to pictures from the Cowboys/Lions game yesterday.

Thanks for that link! I will show my husband tonight!

I am just enjoying the heck out of the "Never Say Die" attitude from the players as a team!

GREAT to see FINALLY!

Good core group of guys..when one struggles, someone is out there trying to pick him up!

In the beginning of the game, one of the Lions players was knocked out cold...scary stuff. He just laid there and finally walked off...did they show replay? What exactly happened? It didn't seem to have much action going on when he went down...I hope he is OK today.

hard to see that stuff in live play and Detroit rarely showed any replays of any anything. That sort of stunk...

The Cowboys just never got their "groove" going for this game.  Tony Romo overthrew passes and had a few interceptions.  Not a good effort by the Cowboys.  I'm really surprised the Philly's didn't have a higher score.  Tony's new squeeze Jessica Simpson wearing a pink Number 9 jersey was in attendance with her father.  I think Tony plays better when his girlfriend of the moment is not present! :wink

Can someone beat the Patriots?? Anyone?

Cincinnati lost their game Saturday night against the 49ers, 20-13. This loss, combined with very few games left in the season, will give Cincinnati coach, Marvin Lewis, his first losing season, because there are not enough games left to make the 500 mark and have an even season of wins and losses. I watched some of the Cleveland game, what i could stand to see...i found this re-cap about the blizzard game...

Quote
Brrrrrrowns beat Bills in blizzard-like conditions
By TOM WITHERS, AP Sports Writer
December 16, 2007

CLEVELAND (AP) -- Even Santa Claus shivered.

Blizzard-like conditions blanketed the Cleveland Browns and Buffalo Bills during their crucial game on Sunday as a severe winter storm pounded the Lake Erie shoreline with heavy snow and swirling winds.

The temperature was 30 degrees at kickoff, and with wind gusts hitting 40 mph, Browns Stadium was transformed into a super-sized snow globe. As the Browns huddled for warmth near space heaters by their bench, jolly ol' St. Nick braved the elements a few feet away.

"It looked like something I saw on the Discovery Channel, like something about the North Pole," said Bills rookie running back Marshawn Lynch.

Unable to get any traction, players slipped and slid all over the field and officials had difficulty spotting the ball in the blustery conditions. Punts and passes were adventures as anything not grounded was quickly blown off-target.

"It wasn't the coldest conditions I've ever played in," said Browns kicker Phil Dawson, who managed to push two field goals through. "But it was the toughest."

Early on, stadium groundskeepers did their best to keep the yard lines, sidelines and hashmarks visible with backpack blowers, but as soon as they completed one attempt, they had to start another to keep up with the white stuff.

Windows in the press box fogged up, making it almost impossible to see the field.

Players weren't the only ones challenged by the tough conditions.

From the perspective of the CBS crew broadcasting the game, the swirling snow made for great TV.

"It was an unbelievable scene," producer Victor Frank said in a phone interview afterward. "It was in a big game. It had all the ingredients."

Frank, who has produced NFL games for 15 years, called it one of the best scenes he's witnessed in his career.

The greatest challenge for CBS was figuring out where the ball was. During the game, the network superimposed a graphic over certain views of the field that showed where the yard lines were to aid viewers.

The higher the camera, the more likely its shot would be clouded by snow. CBS tried to show extra replays, especially those from low camera angles, Frank said.

The Browns scored on their second possession, a 35-yard field goal by Dawson that was set up by a lucky bounce. Cleveland wide receiver Braylon Edwards had a pass bounce off his chest to teammate Joe Jurevicius for a 25-yard gain.

After being tackled, Jurevicius, who grew up in Cleveland playing in backyard games in similarly nasty weather, jumped up with snow clumped on his facemask and pointed toward Edwards in thanks.

"I remember playing in a high school game like this, but not this bad," Jurevicius said.

When Dawson's kick cleared the crossbar, half-frozen Cleveland fans, who came bundled in hunting and ski gear, erupted knowing that scoring would be at a premium.

The Browns took a 5-0 lead early in the second quarter when a snap sailed over Bills punter Brian Moorman's head. He chased it through the snow to the end zone before kicking the ball into the stands rather than risk having the Browns recover.

Following the free kick, officials struggled to locate the 50-yard-line, which was covered in at least 2 inches of snow.

The weather got worse as the game progressed.

"I've never seen anything like it," Bills defensive tackle Larry Tripplett said. "It changed the way we played. There were countless times I couldn't get out of my stance without falling. I didn't know football could be played like this."

As if it wasn't bad enough that they lost, the Bills were forced to spend Sunday night in Cleveland after their charter flight home was canceled.

AP Sports Writer Rachel Cohen in New York contributed to this report.

Well, Cincinnati won today. They aren't play-off bound but they did beat Cleveland, 19-14, in a thrilling game to the end. The Tennessee Titan's won their game against the New York Jets and so Cleveland will not make the play-off's due to Cleveland's loss to Cincinnati today :bouncy :bouncy I do not like Cleveland :no Cleveland needed Tennessee to lose today but it didn't happen...so that's a bright spot if anything that Cincinnati crushed Cleveland's chances of a post-season.

The Ravens-Seahawks game was ultra boring...i fell asleep during the second quarter with the score 21-0, the Seahawks leading. I wish CBS would've aired the Patriots game instead...i changed the channel to FOX and they were airing a more competitive game between Tampa Bay and San Fransisco but i switched back to the Ravens game and fell asleep. The night game will be underway on NBC in a matter of minutes.

I just don't like the Patriot's prima donna attitude...i've seen the phrase "arrogant" or "smug" be applied to the mannerisms of Tom Brady and i agree with it. You don't see Brett Favre, for example, or even Peyton Manning for that matter, carrying themselves like the c*ock of the walk on the field AND off the field. Even though New England will be in the play-off's i'd just like to see them lose a game to keep them realistic and to wipe the smug grin's off their faces...had New England lost a game i think it would've affected them mentally and they wouldn't be in such a lofty position now.

Patriots' historic game to be available to all of America, after all
By RACHEL COHEN, AP Sports Writer
December 26, 2007

NEW YORK (AP) -- After weeks of insisting they wouldn't cave in, NFL officials did just that Wednesday. Now all of America can see the Patriots' shot at history.

Saturday night's game between New England and the New York Giants on the NFL Network, which is available in fewer than 40 percent of the nation's homes with TVs, will be simulcast on CBS and NBC.

The Patriots could become the first NFL team to go 16-0 in the regular season.

"We have taken this extraordinary step because it is in the best interest of our fans," commissioner Roger Goodell said in a statement after the league announced it was reversing course. "What we have seen for the past year is a very strong consumer demand for NFL Network. We appreciate CBS and NBC delivering the NFL Network telecast on Saturday night to the broad audience that deserves to see this potentially historic game. Our commitment to the NFL Network is stronger than ever."

NFL Network spokesman Seth Palansky said officials would have no further comment Wednesday.

The NFL had claimed that the onus of making the game widely available fell on the major cable providers with which the league has bitterly feuded. Companies such as Comcast and Time Warner have declined to carry the network as part of basic packages.

But lawmakers have pressured the NFL to ensure more viewers could see the game. Last week, two prominent members of the Senate Judiciary Committee sent a letter to Goodell threatening to reconsider the league's antitrust exemption.

Sen. Patrick Leahy, D-Vt., who co-wrote the letter with Sen. Arlen Specter, R-Pa., said he was "delighted" by the NFL's concession.

"I think it was a smart move on their part," he said in a phone interview.

Leahy expected to speak with Goodell again next month about the ongoing question of how many fans will be able to see games on the channel. Saturday's matchup wraps up the NFL Network's second season of airing live contests, with eight per year. This one and a key Thursday night game between Green Bay and Dallas last month drew widespread complaints about the lack of availability.

"I never completely gave up hope, but I was getting a little discouraged Christmas afternoon when we still had not gotten a positive answer," said Leahy, who added that his staff members were talking with NFL officials during the holiday.

Local TV affiliates in the Boston, Manchester, N.H., and New York areas that were already set to simulcast the game under NFL policy will still air it. That means viewers in those markets will have four channels to choose from if they get NFL Network.

That did not make officials at WWOR in New York happy.

"The NFL is in clear violation of their agreement with WWOR/My9," the station said in a statement. "We fully expect the league to honor their commitment to My9 as the exclusive free over-the-air broadcaster for Saturday's telecast of the New England Patriots at New York Giants game."

Sen. John Kerry, D-Mass., who had urged cable and NFL executives to settle the dispute, had a much more positive reaction to the league's announcement.

"I couldn't be more thrilled that as the Patriots rush toward an historic undefeated season, football fans everywhere have won a victory of their own," Kerry said. "With today's announcement, the NFL showed their loyalty to the sports fans who made the NFL an empire in the first place.

"The best news of all is that now no die-hard Pats fans will be shut out from watching their team take aim at football history," Kerry said in a statement.

This will be the first three-network simulcast in NFL history and the first simulcast of an NFL game since the inaugural Super Bowl in 1967, when CBS and NBC televised the meeting of the champions of the newly merged National Football League and American Football League.

"We're happy to accommodate the NFL's request for a joint national simulcast of this potentially historic game to make it available to the widest possible audience," said Dick Ebersol, NBC Universal's chairman for sports and Olympics.

NBC was scheduled to air "Dateline NBC" and a repeat of "Law & Order: SVU" during the time slot. CBS was set to broadcast the movie "Good Night, and Good Luck" and "48 Hours: Mysteries."

Even though I am a Dallas Cowboys fan, I applaud the New England Patriots for the stunning season they are having.  I hope they can make history by winning Saturday and having a 16 and 0 season!

Of course, I hope the Cowboys beat the Washington Redskins on Sunday!

Now,  I would still like to see a Patriots/Cowboys Superbowl.  I have a guess who might win, but you never know!!  :wink

The Patriots won their Saturday night game against the Giants, 38-35. It was a much closer game than the reporters and broadcasters thought...so they've gone 16-0...and the play-off's are next...tomorrow's games on Sunday still have play-off implications so it won't be a meaningless Sunday as it usually is around this time of the season.

Cincinnati won their game against the Miami Dolphins this afternoon. The arrival of Bill Parcells at Miami was talked about throughout the game...so next season expect a lot of changes at Miami. Parcells isn't a coach...he's more like a Vice President...so we'll see what happens.

This is the play-off picture going into next Saturday...it's the teams who are in and it gives the schedule for next weekend...which will be the Wild Card round.

I'm not going to even post the Cowboy graphics I usually do.  The Washington Redskins played a great game yesterday and deserved to win over the Cowboys.  The Cowboys were there but not there!  It was like, "This game really doesn't count so we don't really need to play."  I was very disappointed in this attitude.  I think every game is important and a team should go out with the desire to play their best and win!!

Congratulations to the Patriots who continue to have a perfect season!  :clap

That's is what i feel as well...the same thing can be said for the Colts, who played the Titans. Now, what should have happened was, the Titans should have earned their spot in the play-off's instead of the Colts just giving it away and not playing really well. The Colts should've played their best and had their best in the game because the opponent, Tennessee, was playing for a play-off spot...so in my opinion the Colts should've been into the game more than they were instead of just shrugging the game off and having it be less of a competition. The Colts may as well have said "here, Tennessee, we'll let you in the play-off's...".

Sunday the Dallas Cowboys will play the NY Giants in a playoff game.  This is the 3rd time for the Cowboys and Giants to play this season and the Cowboys have won the two previous games.  I was reading the sports page today and a few articles mentioned that the Cowboys always lose the 3rd game when they play a team three times.  Let's hope that this doesn't happen on Sunday! :cross

With the Cowboys you just don't know what to expect?????  They could play the worst team and lose and the best team and win!! :bduh

An article mentioned that Tony Romo was on a holiday somewhere in Mexico with Jessica Simpson!!  I really hope Tony can concentrate on the game coming up.

NFC Division Final

Green Bay: 42*
Seattle: 20

*-the most points scored during a play-off game by Green Bay.

Prissy: Romo needs to have his mind on the game...he doesn't need to try and be boyfriend who happens to be a quarterback...it should be the other way around with his priority on the game. I know virtually all of the NFL players are married or have companions but for some reason or another he seems to be distracted because of it and he shouldn't be.

:wave I usually don't like to watch football games with lots and lots of snow on the field because all a viewer can see is a group of men running on the field...you can't see the lines or the markers on the field...everything is relayed by the broadcaster like it's a radio game. I prefer football on TV than hearing it on the radio and i'd rather hear baseball on the radio instead of watching it on TV. I'm like the opposite for each sport.

I was watching the pre-game show just now and they shown a clip of Simpson in the audience from one of the Cowboys games. I think for propriety's sake the panelists on the show said there's nothing wrong with Romo eschewing his work for a holiday trip so it wouldn't make them appear "old fashioned" but with the camera's and microphone's off i'll assume they had a different view but who knows. This is the CBS Pre-Game show i'm speaking of...that's the network airing the Patriots game in a few minutes. I'm "old fashioned" and superstitious to some degree so i wouldn't want players doing things non-game related if they're to be involved in a big important game but that's just how i think.

Jacksonville really gave New England a run for their money.  But as always, NE came out ahead.  If ever a team deserved to be in the Super Bowl, it's NE.  17 and 0!! :wow

The Cowboys play the Giants tomorrow!  Either team could win the way the Cowboys have been playing.  Of course, I am still rooting for the Cowboys.

Prissy: That's all i've really had a gripe about...many of the Patriot wins have been by blow-out's and there's been precious few teams that have given the Patriots a real battle. I was watching the instant replay's as everyone else does and they were replaying a situation where the pocket collapsed around Tom Brady and yet he still had all the time in the world to throw the football...it was like the Jaguars were a bit intimidated to be aggressive on defense given who they were playing. I guess it was the old saying that the Patriots are stronger physically than many teams as to how so many players could continue running and running even with a pile of Jaguars on top of the runners during many of the play's.

I'll be awaiting the games later today since it's officially Sunday morning.

The New York Giants beat the Cowboys 21 to 17.  The Cowboys have just had a lackluster game the last several weeks.  I don't know why they thought they could play poorly and then come back in one of the Final Games!

So it will be New England against San Diego  and  Green Bay against New York next week.

I wanted to see the Cowboys win, but now I am rooting for the Patriots to win the Super Bowl.  I think they deserve to go all the way without a loss!

AFC Division Final
Chargers: 28
Colts: 24

NFC Division Final
Giants: 21
Cowboys: 17

So it all comes down to next weekend's Championship games. The AFC and NFC winner's of both games next weekend will head to the Super Bowl in February. The way the Chargers were against the Colts today...we'll see how it plays out against New England...even though today's game may have been a fluke for the Colts when they lost to San Diego. Peyton Manning had winning numbers but still lost to San Diego...the same can be said for the Patriots, they could have winning numbers next weekend and still come up short so it's tough to tell.

Half-time during the Patriots and Chargers game. The first quarter, it looked as if New England was out of synch...then they scored two touchdowns in the second quarter. The Chargers on the other hand have scored three field goals and trail 9 to 14. It looks to be like a lop-sided scoring game simply because of the three field goals of San Diego verses the two touchdowns of New England.

The second game today is between the Green Bay Packers and the New York Giants. Whichever two teams win today will be in the Super Bowl next month.

EDIT:

AFC Championship Final
New England Patriots: 21
San Diego Chargers: 12

New England will be heading to the Super Bowl...i'll edit again with the NFC finals later tonight...

NFC Championship Final Overtime
New York Giants: 23
Green Bay Packers: 20

And so the upcoming Super Bowl will be the New England Patriots and the New York Giants.

The game between the Packers and the Giants was very close and went into overtime with a 20/20 tie.  I really had no favorite, but I felt like the NY Giants deserved to win.  They had a touchdown that didn't count because of a holding penalty and their kicker had 2 attempts at field goals that were not good.  The kicker was redeemed when he was able to kick the winning field goal kick for the Giants.

I am also glad the Patriots won because as I have said all along, with the perfect season they have had, they deserve to go to the Super Bowl.

Hello Prissy and Charlene...

I thought for a moment that the Chargers would pull a major upset and beat New England because the final score of 21-12 doesn't really tell the whole story. The Chargers never were able to score a touchdown...their 12 points came off of 4 field goals. The Patriots had 3 touch downs, giving them their 21 points. Anyway, the game was really close until the Patriots scored that late touch down...the score had been 14-12...so it could've went either way but once New England got their third touch down, that was it...21-12. The disrupting of Tom Brady and the offense by the Chargers throughout the first three quarter's of the game was something remarkable given how low scoring the game was by the Patriots...usually they can rack up 5 and 6 touch downs easily so it was a testament to San Diego's defense that made the game somewhat competitive.

The Green Bay game on the other hand...that one was high octane and if i were a betting man i wouldn't have liked that sort of game...it was too close and a lot of fumbling...there was one play where Brett Favre threw an interception but then a Green Bay player stripped the ball from the New York player who had picked it off which caused a fumble and Green Bay got the ball again all in the span of 30 seconds. I was thinking Green Bay was going to pull it off since they got the ball in overtime first and the rules go the first team to score, wins...but it wasn't meant to be...and New York will face off against New England. I'm not wanting New England to lose but i certainly hope they play like they want to win...and not walk through the game like they have it in the bag, which is usually how they come across.

Giants vs Packers was pretty exciting at least!. Factor in the weather and it's amazing they scored what they did! Brett looked...to me anyway...as though he was pretty uncomfortable. (I'm sure they all were!) Anyone else see it that way or was I just assuming? :lol  I was rooting for the Giants although I do like Green Bay and would've been happy had they gotten in. I think Eli is doing one heckova job all things considered! I'm hoping for a good nail-biter Superbowl game! I'll be rooting for NY..but Pats will certainly deserve it if they win-

I was pretty amused by the "Plaxico" show.....but I'm rather easily amused anyway! :lol

 NEW YORK GIANTS: 17
NEW ENGLAND PATRIOTS: 14

It was a nail biter all the way through as it was more of a defensive game than an offensive game. The game's score for the first three quarters was 7-3 with New England winning. Then New York got a touch down, 7-10. Then New England scored again later, 14-10...then with less than 2 minutes left, New York was able to go down the field and score a touch down, 17-14. New England got the ball back with under a minute to go and with 10 seconds left and a 4th and 20, Brady's pass was incomplete leading to the loss to the Giants in Super Bowl 42.

I found this stat a few minutes ago...the number on the left are the Giants stats and the number on the right are the Patriots stat's:

NET YARDS PASSING     247     229

Completions-Attempts    19-34    29-48
Yards Per Pass Play    6.7    4.3
Times Sacked               3                5
Yards Lost to Sacks       8       37

The number i underlined is my theory as to why the Patriots lost...Brady being sacked 5 times and in those 5 sacks, it costing New England 37 yards where as for New York, Manning was sacked 3 times but his total loss in yards was 5. Although in the final seconds it appeared Brady's hail mary passes might be caught, the over-all scoring or lack there of from both teams made any points seem huge.

The Pro Bowl is today at 4:30pm Ohio time. I do not know when kick-off is but i assume a little before or after 5pm. The game takes place in Hawaii and it features players from all of the NFL teams who were voted there based on their performance on the field. Also, a lot of players are selected as a Pro Bowl player but do not actually play. The starters in the Pro Bowl are who mainly get all of the attention but everyone who's there will be identified in a pre-game roster call. It's the NFC verses the AFC.

NEW ORLEANS (AP) -- A lawsuit filed Friday by a former St. Louis Rams player and others seeks millions of dollars in damages from the alleged taping of Rams practices by the New England Patriots before the 2002 Super Bowl.

The Patriots won the game 20-17 in the Superdome.

The $100 million suit, filed on behalf of former Rams player Willie Gary in U.S. District Court in New Orleans, names the Patriots, team owner Robert Kraft and head coach Bill Belichick.

It was disappointing to see the Cowboys lose this first preseason game, however, they did mainly play new recruits to see how they would do.  And I understand they have to cut quite a few before the season really starts.

The Cowboys did come out at the beginning with Tony Romo and the first string team, and scored a touchdown immediately.

It's almost NFL time again!!! I am hoping Cincinnati does a decent job this season. Last season was a nail-biter and i'm looking forward for the time to come where I won't have to sit on the edge of my seat watching Cincinnati. Of course, I don't really sit...i'm laying on the floor in front of the TV watching football games...but Cincinnati can never put any of their games away and that's a big reason why they're always nail-biters.

I don't watch the pre-season games. A team can either be bad or good during pre-season and then perform the opposite during the important games. I think pre-season is only good for scouting potential talent or cutting no talent prior to the regular season. It's a statistic lover's heaven, exhibition games.

September 7th is the first game of the 2008 season. They play all but one game on Sunday. The one exception is a Thursday night game on the NFL network. The game will be carried locally on the Cincinnati station, too. That game will be against the Steelers of all teams! The few times Cincinnati gets national exposure and they play a rival. The worst part is, the Thursday night game happens on November 20th, 4 days after their Sunday afternoon game against the Eagles...so in addition to having to face the tricky Steelers, Cincinnati will also have to deal with a short four day rest-up period between games. Pittsburgh will take advantage of Cincinnati's lack of rest I bet.

Cincinnati plays the Cowboys on October 5th. That will be a late game, 4:15 Ohio time. Here's the 2008 NFL schedule for Cincinnati...

DALLAS COWBOYS WIN THEIR THIRD PRE SEASON GAME OVER THE HOUSTON TEXANS, 23 TO 22

If Houston had not tried for the two points near the end after a touchdown and gone for the extra point, it most likely would have been a tied game.  The Cowboys look good when Tony Romo, Marion Barber, and Jason Whitten are out there, but as soon as the "new" recruits start playing, it's downhill.

AC,
It will be interesting to see how the Cowboys do once the preseason games are finished.

DALLAS COWBOYS WIN THEIR FOURTH PRE SEASON GAME OVER THE MIINNESOTA VIKINGS 16 TO 10

We missed this game because we were watching the Obama speech.  Actually, it was not on the channel listed in the TV Guide or we would have watched some of it  I did read that one of the Cowboy receivers was hurt.

I'm looking forward to the regular season starting and the first string of players playing! :thumb

DALLAS COWBOYS WIN THEIR FIRST SEASON GAME OVER THE CLEVELAND BROWNS 28 TO 10

Marion Barber rushed for two touchdowns and Terrell Owens and Michael Craeton got a touchdown each.  One of Tony Romo's passes was intercepted in the end zone by the Browns which prevented a fifth possible touchdown.  Tony was sacked at least once and ended up with a big bandage on his chin.  Marion Barber left the game with possible rib injuries.  Hopefully, he can continue to play.

I hope this is the start of good things to come for the Cowboys.

Pepe,
So sorry to hear about Tom Brady!!  And right here at the beginning of the Season. I did see a clip of him falling and it looked like he twisted his knee.
I hope the secondary quarterback is ready to step in.

Thea,
Sounds like "Da Bears" are off to a good start!

Where are you?  Are you following the Cowboys?  Hope you will check in here when you can.  :cheer

Well, Cincinnati lost their opening game. The offense was non-existent...it was like Cincinnati of old-times, not much field advancement causing a lot of three and out's. I'm hoping they do better tomorrow as far as offense go. I will have to blame it on Carson Palmer's unwillingness to involve the team's star player's until late in the game. Throughout much of the first three quarters, Palmer relied on little-known receivers while the name players went ignored until late in the third. Chad Johnson's name has legally been changed to Chad Ocho Cinco and I do not know the reason behind any of that.

AC- In a gesture of showboating- he changed his name...he wears the the # 85- Ocho (8) Cinco (5), in spanish.

He was often referred to as "#85", and even tried to wear it on his uniform name once and was was fined, I think.

Now, legally name changed, he could have it on his Jersey and be legally called "Ocho Cinco".

I haven't seen him this yr so I don't know if it is on there or not...

edited to add:

Quote
Nickname
On October 25, 2006, in honor of Hispanic Heritage Month, Johnson announced he would prefer to be called, "Ocho-Cinco" ("8-5" in Spanish). During the October 29, 2006 game against the Atlanta Falcons, Johnson wore "Ocho Cinco" instead of "C. Johnson" on the back of his jersey during warm-ups. This was prior to an interview where Chad "called out" Deangelo Hall, or, as to Johnson, Deangelo "Fall." Quarterback Carson Palmer ripped the label off Johnson's jersey to reveal the usual "C. Johnson" .[27] According to ESPN, Johnson was fined US$5,000 for the stunt (pending appeal).[28]

DA BEARS won their opening game against Indianapolis and they were expected to.  I was out and just got home near the end, but the mens' US Open Tennis final was still on, so I was flipping back and forth.  They both ended at about the same time.

I always say that when the  Bears have a good pre-season, they have a poor season, and vice versa.  So we'll see this year.  I certainly would like to see a good season.

Cincinnati opens up their home season today with a game against the Tennesee Titans. Last Sunday they were on the road on opening day. We shall see if playing at home will have much of a mental impact on the offensive line today or not. Palmer needs to involve his star players during 80 to 90% of the game.

Edit...11:52am: There is a wind advisory in effect for our area...wind gusts up to 45mph so I hope it doesn't knock our electric out. There is a region of the neighboring town whose power was knocked out because of the winds.  :para

Because of my orchestra practice this evening, I missed the first half of this game.  It looked like the Cowboys and Eagles were fairly evenly matched and it was a really high scoring game.  Either team could have won.  I'm wondering if we will see the Cowboys and the Eagles in the playoffs with each other.

I did TIVO the game and may watch highlights of it tomorrow! :thumb

Cincinnati plays the New York Giants today at 1pm. Cincinnati's 0-2 and some media speculate that the team will not make a run for the post-season this year because of all of the uncertainty in the offensive line, including Carson Palmer, who is starting to become more of a hand-off quarterback instead of a passing quarterback. He's handing the football off to his linemen more and more because the Bengals offensive line is weak and unable to put a stop on the opposition's defense with a lot of consistency. We shall see how they play against The Giants in 2 hours and 20 minutes from right now.

Cincinnati lost their Sunday game against the New York Giants. The game was very close, 23-20, so it wasn't a total domination. It was the first game this season Cincinnati shown life with offense and defense but they're 0-3 as a result of this third straight loss as are the Cleveland Browns.

The first quarter went fast with no score; (EDIT: the Cowboys did score a touchdown before the first quarter ended.) then finally the scores went back and forth.  The Cowboys seemed to come alive at the end of the game with a drive that went quickly and ended in a touchdown.  Too bad the Cowboys didn't have an extra field goal this game.  They could have won by 1 point. :doh  Washington really played the better game.

Just like a broken record...Cincinnati lost their fourth game...so now they're 0-4. They lost against Cleveland. This, I believe, is the first time under the Marvin Lewis era that the team has been this bad. Lewis is the coach for those who do not know. I just finished watching the Cowboys-Redskins game. The Cowboys ran out of time-outs and couldn't stop the clock during the last 5 minutes or so. Cincinnati used all of their time-outs as well but they weren't really into the game so it wasn't a tight game at all. The night game on NBC is Chicago Bears...they start around 8:30 Ohio time.

Cincinnati doesn't play today. They lost their Thursday night game with the Steelers and so Cincinnati is 1-10-1. The previous game with the Eagles ended in a tie. The Eagles as of now are trailing 29-7. In a move that was unprecedented, the Eagles took McNabb out of the game after the first half...marking the first time in his career at Philadelphia that he was benched. Tennessee hits a sour note today, losing against the New York Jets. The Titans of Tennessee had been undefeated, 10-0, but now they're 10-1. I'm watching the last of the Eagles and Ravens game...then the Giants and Cardinals come on afterward.

Thanksgiving Turkey can certainly describe the CBS football game...the Detroit Lions trail the Tennessee Titans 35-10 at half-time. I am hoping the second game on FOX between the Eagles and Cowboys will be way more competitive. There was a funny segment during the CBS half-time show. One of the panelists, Shannon Sharpe, appeared as "The Unknown Tight-End" with a paper sack on his head, parodying the Unknown Comic, in response to the kind of game being played between the Lions and Titans :lol :lol

Half-time during the Bengals-Ravens game. Cincinnati is trailing 13-3. They scored their only field goal during the closing seconds of the first half. Prior to the final drive of the first half, Cincinnati had a total of 20 yards of offense throughout the entire game, which is not too great. I don't think they will win this game, though, but they could make it close. Pittsburgh and New England air at 4pm and I can't wait for that...two teams that have famous defense and offense. The Sunday night game is Chicago.

COWBOYS ARE 8 AND 5 FOR THE SEASON.

The Steelers scored first with a field goal and then just before the half ended the Cowboys had a field goal, so 3 to 3.  Then the Cowboys made a touchdown and it was 13 to 3 for a while.  The Steelers came back to win the game.  I really felt like once the Cowboys were ahead the offense stopped playing.  They would make a few plays then kick the ball away.  The Cowboys defense had to play really hard and I bet they were exhausted by the time the game was over.

VERY FRUSTRATING :pullhair

Cincinnati won their game against Washington 20-10 I believe was the final score. I fell asleep a couple of times during the Steelers and Ravens game...when I couldn't stay awake any longer the score was 6-3...a field goal contest...it was a high-energy game but my energy was gone :yes

The Dallas game looked like a blow-out going by the re-cap and the score posted here... 20-8. Next Sunday Cincinnati plays Kansas City...It would be nice if Cincinnati goes out on a mini winning streak and end up 4-11-1

Title: Re: WELCOME NFL FOOTBALL FANS

Cincinnati finishes out their season today against the Kansas City Chiefs. Cincinnati is on a mini-winning streak and could possibly end the season 4-11-1 which is a bit better than what the local sports critics were predicting...i'm a bit nervous about next season. Carson Palmer returns as the quarterback and I hope, hope, hope that he lives up to all the hype and expectations from the critics who screamed "if Carson were in there, the team would have a better standing than what they have". Maybe...but from what I saw, his receivers weren't catching his passes with much accuracy...and some blame the elbow factor but I blame the receiver factor of dropped passes. We shall see what happens today. The post-season should be interesting...a lot of low-ranked teams are in the play-off's because of some NFL rules.

DA BEARS play Houston today.  If the Bears win and Minnesota loses, then the Bears win their division.  That's not likely, but one never knows, especially when teams are motivated.  If Minnesota wins, they are the winner of the division, and it would be hard for the Bears to get in the playoffs, although there is some way...so and so would have to lose, I forget which teams.  So I will have my fingers crossed  :cross  for the Bears and watching anxiously.   :bite

Hello Prissy and Woodstock!! 40 minutes until kick-off...

Prissy: If Dallas wins they'll have a 10-6 record. That's not too shabby but it was one of the records that was being picked at because some feel teams who have 14-2 or 13-3 seasons, mainly seasons where teams win well over 10 games deserve to be in the play-off's because some teams that win a lot don't make it while other teams, because of their division make-up, win less but get in.

I think teams should enjoy the post-season more than they've been...it shouldn't always be the upper-tier teams going to the play-off's because the case can always be made that the owners bought their way into the play-off's and so I like seeing teams that don't have the glitter and the attention or a blow-out win/loss record get in because of wild cards and other things...for a lot of teams, post season playing gives them a national stage. Hopefully Cincinnati is in this position in 2009.

**UPDATE**

Cincinnati at the moment is leading 10-0 against the Chiefs.

The Bears are losing 14-10 at halftime.  All their playoff chances are based on a win today.  Minnesota is losing at halftime, but not by much.  Even if the Bears win and Minnesota loses, the Bears need the TB Bucs to lose as well as the Cowboys.  (Sorry Prissy and Lora.)  Too many things to think about.  I just want them to pull this game out or we are done and I will be totally depressed.  GO BEARS!!!  Cincinnati won their game so they end the season 4-11-1. The final score 16-6. Kansas City got their only touch down in the 4th quarter but the set-up caused the clock to eat away the time. Kansas City had a First and Goal but couldn't get their touch down originally. Then on the Third and Goal they were stopped for a loss...they went for it on Fourth and Goal and didn't get it but a penalty by Cincinnati allowed Kansas City to get an automatic first down at the 2 yard line so it was right back where they started from...after so much time had winded down they finally got their touch down making it 16-6. Kansas City went for the two point conversion and it didn't happen...causing the final score to be 16-6. They were wanting it to be an 8 point game, 16-8, and potentially get the ball back and try and tie it but it didn't happen. Cincinnati wins 16-6. Dallas will be starting on FOX in a few minutes. The CBS game will be the New York Jets.

Congrats, AC!!!   :bouncy :bouncy :bouncy :clap :clap :clap  I'm happy for you!!!

DA BEARS lost.  No post season for them.  I think I may go into mourning.

If the Bears would have won, the Cowboys are losing right now 34-3 against the Eagles...but all of that post-season math confuses me anyway with who wins and who loses and which team must win and could win or should win this or that. I just know my team isn't in the post season but I'll still be watching the play-off's whenever I can. I know they like to play a lot on Saturday's and with the NFL network it's hard to tell how many post season games I'll get to enjoy watching. I hope FOX and CBS carries enough of them...I know NBC will have at least one post season Sunday night game with Al and John.

**UPDATE**

Wow...the Eagles created another interception and scored another touchdown and so the score now is 41-3...I would officially call the game over...it would be almost impossible to score 38 points to tie...they're mid-way through the third quarter...I wonder if FOX will switch to another game?? They usually do that in blow-out's.

DALLAS COWBOYS LOSE THEIR SIXTEENTH SEASON GAME TO THE PHILADELPHIA EAGLES 44 TO 6

COWBOYS ARE 9 AND 7 FOR THE SEASON.

The Cowboys were totally squashed by the Eagles.  Only able to score two field goals.  The Cowboys are out of the play offs, and frankly, don't deserve to be in the play offs the way they played most of the season.  Very frustrating! :pullhair

This is how the scoring occurred in each quarter:

                1      2    3    4    T
Cowboys    3    0    0    3    6
   Eagles   3    24    17    0    44

At the Yahoo Sports page I copied this...to illustrate how baffling and intricate a win or loss means:

Quote
6. Philadelphia Eagles (9-6-1) – Clinched playoff berth, No. 6 seed and first-round playoff game at Minnesota with win over Dallas; AND Chicago loss at Houston AND Tampa Bay loss to Oakland.

The thing that's bizarre is Philadelphia the way it's written wouldn't have made the play-off's in spite winning unless those other two teams lost, which they did. Miami won their game and so that caused New England to not become division champs. Miami is 11-5 and tied with New England but because Miami, like Baltimore, won more games against conference opponents, that's why they move on and New England does not. Each team had a three way tie at 11-5.

Quote
New England Patriots (11-5) – Eliminated from play-offs with Miami win AND Baltimore win.

Baltimore wins tie with New England because of conference record (8-4 to 7-5).

As mentioned, both the Baltimore Ravens and New England Patriots are tied 11-5 but because Baltimore won more games in their conference, 8-4, that's how they move on and New England doesn't.

One more quote...

Quote
San Diego Chargers (8-8) – Clinched AFC West title, No. 4 seed and first-round playoff game vs. Indianapolis with win over Denver.

The only 500 team to make the play-offs...and actually win a division title...the 8 and 8 Chargers. They won their game against the Broncos last night on Sunday Night Football. The Broncos by the way are also 8-8...so much like other divisions and conferences, this also requires a heavy dose of understanding the rules of post-season of which I don't know much about. I just report the stats.

This coming Saturday and Sunday the Wildcard games will be played...the winners of those games will move on farther. The following weekend, January 10th and 11th, the official round of main play-off's begin because of the first-round bye weeks that the top teams get for winning their divisions. The first-round of play-offs are the wildcard games this coming weekend.

 SPOILER ALERT

The NFC Championship game ended about 10 minutes ago on FOX...it was a dramatic game. Arizona dominated the first half and at half time it was 24-6. Then in the second half Philadelphia came out dominating and by the start of the 4th they were trailing Arizona 24-19. The Eagles had made a decision to kick an extra point instead of going for two points but the kicker missed the extra point completely, causing it to stall at 24-19...this was proven to be a crucial point looking back because the Eagles were able to go ahead in the score 25-24, but they couldn't get the two point conversion to make it 27-24. So, Arizona comes back with it being 25-24...they end up going down the field and using a lot of the game clock and get a touchdown, 30-25...they go for two points and have a 32-25 lead. As the minutes and second wound down so did the game, of course...leaving the final at 32-35 and Arizona going to the Super Bowl next month.

The AFC Championship game is about ready to start...between the Steelers and the Ravens...one of those two will face Arizona next month.

Prissy~

I haven't watched football in years but my younger brother has been a Pittsburg fan since we were kids. I may take a sneak peek just to see how it is at half time..just to see the scores and thinking of how my brother's blood pressure or state of mind will be by then :roflmao

Hope whose goin to watch it or are having a Super Bowl party with friends, enjoy themselves.

Watching the Super Bowl makes me so nervous.  I live south of Pittsburgh, and of course I'm a Steelers fan.  Oh well, back to watching the game.  It's almost half time and Bruce Springsteen is performing.  Have a good evening everyone.

The first 100 yard interception/touchdown run in a Super Bowl ended the second quarter with Pittsburgh taking a 17-7 lead. The Cardinals were right on the 1 yard line when the pass from Kurt Warner was intercepted and ran back 100 yards for a touchdown. I was hoping Arizona would have gotten the easy touchdown and go up 14-10. The 100 yard touchdown run was the first one in Super Bowl history...and should Pittsburgh win, that will give them 6 Super Bowl wins...which will be the most of any team. So, the game is historical depending on the outcome...it will either be the 6th win for Pittsburgh or the 1st win for Arizona.

I'm not a rock music fan so I'm not watching the half-time show.

I hope the Cardinals can come back, but I really want the better team to win!!

Well, the game is over and Pittsburgh won...I was really hoping Arizona would have won and it was really close...being 23-20 at one time with Arizona leading but as it turned out they would lose 27-23. The game shown that Pittsburgh isn't invincible and are able to be scored against...so the winner doesn't necessarily mean they're the better team. Pittsburgh is notorious for their over-the-top defensive plays, which when analyzing a game means that the best defense will stop almost any offense and in a game such as this with less than 2 minutes to go and Pittsburgh trailing 23-20, defense always brings victory or defeat. The lack of Arizona's defense enabled Pittsburgh to do what they did with so little time left...and the Pittsburgh defense enabled the victory by stopping the Cardinals with a fumble and recovery with 15 seconds or so left on the time clock.

The Pro Bowl is next Sunday.

This is not gloating, and the Cardinals played magnificently, but I'm so happy THE STEELERS WON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

My goodness, was that a great game or what!!!!!  I hate when Super Bowl games are boring, and this one certainly wasn't.  If the Steelers weren't playing in the game, I would have been rooting for the Cardinals.  This would have been their first Super Bowl win.  Pittsburgh will be jumping tonight.  They announced earlier which streets would be closed down because of all the celebrating if we won.  To anyone rooting for the Cardinals, you can be proud of how they played.  I was impressed with their talent and spirit and when they went ahead, I was very nervous.  Well, I'm going to try and calm down now and maybe I'll be able to go to sleep.

Have a great week everyone.

I am a Dallas Cowboy fan and chose to root for the Cardinals in this game.  They were the underdog but certainly played a great game.  I was afraid it might be really one sided, but it was not.  This was a real nail biter of a game and one of the best Super Bowl games I've ever seen! :clap

The 2009 Pro Bowl is set to air...well, it's airing now...but the kick-off won't happen for several minutes. It's on NBC and it takes place in Hawaii. It's the NFL version of the All-Star game. I hope the AFC wins since that's the conference that I'm used to seeing, being a Cincinnati fan.

YAHOO SPORTS (http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/blog/shutdown_corner/post/John-Madden-retires-from-NBC-after-29-seasons-in?urn=nfl,156802)

After 30 seasons, 1979-2009, John Madden is retiring from NFL broadcasting. His broadcasting career began in 1979. Prior to this he was an NFL coach, spending most of his time with the Oakland Raiders. His win-loss record as a coach is one of the best in all of the NFL: 103-32-7. Seven ties in his career...that's when games are still tied after an over-time. One of the unique traits in football that doesn't appear in baseball or basketball is in football there's only one over-time period and if the game is still tied at the end of the 15 minute over-time period then the game ends in a tie. This kind of thing is rare but just recently it happened when the Eagles game was tied...leading their quarterback to announce that he didn't even know a game could end in a tie.

John was the head coach of Oakland for nine years, 1969-1978, and in 1979 he entered broadcasting the game.

Madden's specialty was commentary, not being a play-by-play broadcaster. His voice was heard on radio commercials, radio commentaries and on sports programs, on a Madden video game series, and he was seen on TV commercials advertising medicine: tough actin' Tinactin...but more famously as the spokesman for ACE Hardware.

(http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v345/ACcountryFan/emoticons/nav_logo.jpg) (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v345/ACcountryFan/emoticons/Madden_99_playstation_cover.jpg)

Madden entered the broadcast booth in 1979 at CBS. He wasn't one of the networks lead broadcasters at first. In 1981 he was paired with Pat Summerall and the two of them remained a team...they became the lead broadcasters for CBS Sports over the next decade and a half. Click the thumbnail for a larger picture...

(http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v345/ACcountryFan/emoticons/th_Madden-Summerall.jpg) (http://smg.photobucket.com/albums/v345/ACcountryFan/emoticons/?action=view&current=Madden-Summerall.jpg)

In the spring of 1994 CBS lost the rights to cover NFL and so Madden and Summerall moved over to the FOX network that coming fall. While on FOX the two of them continued broadcasting as a team...they usually broadcast the early game at 1pm but later on the two of them were assigned the later game at 4pm/4:15pm.

In 1998 CBS began airing NFL games once more. Their lead broadcasting team became Jim Nantz and Phil Sims along side Gus Johnson and Steve Tasker as well as Dick Enberg and Randy Cross.

At the end of the 2001 season, early 2002, Madden and Summerall went their separate ways after a 21 year run. Madden was hired by ABC to become the on-air partner for Al Michaels on Monday Night Football that coming fall. Al had been a broadcaster on the program since 1986. Madden and Michaels were on ABC's Monday night show during the 2002, 2003, 2004, and 2005 seasons.

However, behind the scenes, ABC had been wanting to end the series and perhaps air it on Sunday night, with Sunday being the traditional day for football watching. ABC had aired the show since 1970. In the meantime, the people behind the scenes got a bright idea to move the show to ESPN, but still air it on Monday night, due to the economics of airing the show on a cable network instead of on a broadcast network. The move to ESPN happened in the fall of 2006...no longer airing on ABC after a 36 year run. However, in the off-season before the ESPN debut, news broke that Madden wouldn't follow the show to ESPN...although it appeared Al was stuck in his contract with ABC.

NBC in the meantime announced the news of their new sports program, Sunday Night Football. Football on Sunday nights had long been a feature on ESPN prior to the debut of the Monday night show in 2006. NBC announced that they would air a 5 hour block of football programming on Sunday nights starting at 7pm. The pre-game show, "Football Night in America", airs roughly for 90 minutes. The game itself usually kicks-off a little after 8:30pm and then there's the half-time show and then the second half. So, usually, depending on the flow of the game, it's typically over by 11:45, no later than midnight in some cases. NBC hired Madden and bought out Al Michaels contract from ABC and they paired the two of them again at the start of the 2006 NFL season.

Madden and Michaels appeared to be set for a partnership that would last at least 10 years {2002-2012} but news broke today, 7 years into their run, that Madden would retire from broadcasting. The news comes rather suddenly...in spite of what those in the sports media may have to say about his on-air demeanor and style. Critics say that it couldn't come soon enough and that he should have retired years ago...those who like listening to Madden, for them, it's an out of the blue decision. Cris Collinsworth, no stranger to sports, will be taking over at the start of the 2009 season, partnered with Al Michaels.

Madden's final NFL broadcast was the Super Bowl a few months ago.

DALLAS COWBOYS LOSE THEIR FIRST PRESEASON GAME TO THE OAKLAND RAIDERS 31 TO 10

I had forgotten about this game until I saw Frankie mention it in a post.  I tuned in to see the last of the fourth quarter.  Not a good start for the Cowboys!! (Maybe this was a game to miss!)  :para :bang

Boy I sure do miss AC not posting around football season.   I haven't decided who is going to be a winning team this  year.  They have changed so many players and coaches I don't know where everyone is anymore.

PRISSY hopefully you will see a different Tony Romo this year, a much better player.

Pepe,

AC!

DALLAS COWBOYS WIN THEIR SECOND PRESEASON GAME OVER THE TENNESSEE TITANS, 30 to 10

Good plays from some new players including a backup quarterback to Tony Romo.  The Cowboys looked good for most of this game.  After they got the lead, more of the second stringers and new guys were playing while the main players like Romo, Barber, Witten, and Jones sat out the last part of the game.

I played a wedding, then went out to eat, so when I turned on the game, the Cowboys were tied 13 to 13 with the 49ers with 54 seconds left.  The 49ers scored a touchdown and the Cowboys lost. :cry

DALLAS COWBOYS LOSE THEIR SECOND SEASON GAME TO THE NEW YORK GIANTS  33 TO 31

Dallas quarterback, Tony Romo, threw 3 interceptions, which hurt the Cowboys a lot!  Quarterback, Eli Manning, threw more accurate passes than I could keep count of!  The Giants really deserved to win!

This was the first NFL game in the new Cowboys Stadium in Arlington.  Too bad the Cowboys did not play better.

Cowboys did play better, but still need to improve.  There should have been a wider span between these scores.  Tony Romo had a better game tonight.  There was one interception that added a touchdown to the Cowboys' score.

DALLAS COWBOYS LOSE THEIR FOURTH SEASON GAME TO THE DENVER BRONCOS 17 TO 10

:bang :bang :bang  Tony Romo just has to get his act together.  So many thrown passes incomplete.  Is he the right choice for quarterback???  Finally, with just a few minutes left, he seemed to rally, but not enough to win this game.

Both the Cowboys and Broncos Defense teams were outstanding.  Denver's first touchdown was because of a fumble by Tony Romo.  I would say that the Cowboys Defense was on the field much more than the Offense!

Hi Peeps!  I know I am a stranger here, but tonight is so emotional.  I am an avid Packer fan.  I am an avid Brett Favre fan.  YIPES!

In two minutes, the kick-off will be on Monday Night Football . . . . Packers vs. Vikings.    AND Brett will be in a #4 Viking uniform.  I want the Packers to win . . . .  There is so much hype for this game because Brett set every record you can imagine as #4 Packer quarterback . . . . and he retired.   Then he changed his mind twice.

I wish my husband was still here to watch this game with me.  He was the ultimate Packer fan . . . . . and he would be peeved to see Brett in a Vikings uniform.

This game ended in a tie, so went into overtime.  20 to 20.   KC had the ball first but had to kick it away to Dallas.  Dallas got a touchdown so won the game.  KC has not won a game yet, so they were "hungry" for a win.  Tony Romo completed a lot more of his passes in this game.  And new players like Choice and Austin stepped up to help the Cowboys win.

DALLAS COWBOYS WIN THEIR EIGHTH SEASON GAME OVER THE PHILADELPHIA EAGLES  20 TO 16

A slow scoring game with a tied scpre, 13 to 13 for a while.  Philadelphia issued two challenges so had no time outs left in the last quarter.  Miles Austin scored a touchdown near the end that made the game for the Cowboys!!  :cheer

Cowboys are now 6 and 2 for the Season!!

DALLAS COWBOYS LOSE THEIR NINETH SEASON GAME TO THE GREEN BAY PACKERS 17 TO 7

Because I was with my quartet at a Bridal Fair, I missed most of this game.  When I arrived home, it was Green Bay, 3, Cowboys, 0.  Green Bay went on to score two touchdowns, and finally, the Cowboys scored a touchdown to keep the game from being a shut out!!

DALLAS COWBOYS WIN THEIR TENTH SEASON GAME OVER THE WASHINGTON REDSKINS  7 TO 6

This game was 3 to 0, with the Cowboys at 0 for most of the game.  Then the Redskins missed a field goal before the first half ended, but did get another field goal in the second half;  so 6 to 0.  Finally, in the last few minutes of the game, the Cowboys get a touchdown and the extra point and win 7 to 6.  Even though they won, this was not a good game for the Cowboys.  They are now 7 and 3 for the season.

Monica,

The Indianapolis Colts are having a great year!  10 and 0,  no losses.  The New Orleans Saints are also 10 and 0!  The next closest NFL team is the Minnesota Vikings, 9 and 1 record.  Then the Cincinnati Bengals,  7 and 2.   Then several teams like the Cowboys, 7 and 3 or 6 and 3.

Cannot BELIEVE the Patriots lost!
And the steelers for that matter.
32 secs left in the Saints game, hoping it doesn't go OT!

:cheer COLTS ARE 13-0 :cheer

Even Peyton Manning’s inconsistency couldn’t derail history for the Indianapolis Colts, Or preserve the NFL records of New England and San Francisco.

Manning was sensational, throwing three TD passes in the first 23 minutes, then mediocre, getting picked off three times in the Colts’ 28-16 victory over Denver for their 22nd consecutive regular-season win. While Manning struggled late, the defense held off the Broncos as Indy broke the Patriots’ record victory streak set just last year.

The Colts are one of seven NFL teams to go 13-0, including this year’s New Orleans Saints. The Colts (13-0) won their 114th game of the decade, breaking a tie with the 1990s San Francisco 49ers, and took a franchise record 13th consecutive home game.

DALLAS COWBOYS WIN THEIR FOURTEENTH SEASON GAME OVER THE (UNTIL NOW UNDEFEATED) NEW ORLEANS SAINTS  24 TO 17

The Dallas Cowboys dominated the first half of this game with a score of 17 to 3.  The Saints came back with two touchdowns in the fourth quarter and it looked like they might very well win.  Our kicker missed a field goal that would have assured our win, so the Saints had a chance to tie the game.  The Saints' quarterback was sacked near the very end of the game and the Cowboys recovered the ball with 6 seconds left on the clock.

This loss will not hurt the Saints but they do lose the perfect win record they had.  The Cowboys needed this win to stay alive in the season.  Our kicker has the worst record for field goals in the NFL and Flozell Adams, one of the Defensive players, has the most penalties of any player.  I think the kicker and Flozell  may be history next year!!

Cowboys are now 9 and 5 for the Season!!

Monica, I think your Colts stand alone with no losses!!

PRISSY, congrats on the Cowboys.  I feel good that Tony won .  I do think he is laying off the girlfriends and wants to be the best quarterback he can be.  At least that is what I read in a magazine the beginning of the season.

FRANKIE and LEWIS, I am so sorry that the Saints won't have a perfect season, but they are perfect anyway in my book.  Great team for sure.  I bet there was a lot of  yelling at your house during this game.

Pepe,

We just never know what to expect from the Cowboys!! :shock  They lose against teams not that great and win against a team with a perfect record!  :doh
I do agree that Tony is a better quarterback when he is concentrating on the game and not on girls!! :wink

Frankie,

I hated for the Saints to lose their perfect record, but when it came right down to it, I had to root for my Cowboys!!  The loss won't hurt the Saints but a loss would have hurt the Cowboys!!

Man, that was a hard game to watch! The Saints and the Cowboys are the favorite teams of my Son Lewis and Husband Lewis. As I've posted on the OCD, my Son would sit all alone when he was 2 years old and watch Dallas. I guess there was nothing Dallas that he did not have when he was little - his entire bedroom, and even his SHOES!  :lol But somehow we all made it through the game, and nobody is mad at each other!  :lmao Personally, I'm just watching college basketball and waiting for March Madness!!!  :bouncy

As many of you know, football is huge in Texas, starting with high school, then into college and of course the professional teams.

When I was in my first semester at TCU (Texas Christian University) in Fort Worth, first semester Freshman Physical Education was all about FOOTBALL!!  We learned about the rules, the plays, the different positions, etc.  I don't remember that much, but do know enough about football to enjoy the game.  I still ask Skip, "Now, who has the ball?"  :lmao

I have watched two football games back to back!  That's a little much, even for me!

This afternoon the New Orleans Saints beat the Arizona Cardinals.  Tomorrow the Dallas Cowboys play the Minnesota Vikings  (Brett Favre!!) and the winner of that game will play New Orleans for the NFC championship and then go on to the Superbowl.

This evening the Indianapolis Colts beat the Baltimore Ravens (who used to be the Baltimore Colts!!) :doh  Tomorrow the San Diego Chargers play the NY Jets, and the winner of that game will play Indianapolis for the AFC championship and then go on to the Superbowl.

I think it is fitting that New Orleans and Indianapolis are in these Finals because they had a long string of games without a loss for quite a while this season.

The Dallas Cowboys are two games away from getting to play in the Superbowl. !We will just see how Tony Romo and Brett Favre do tomorrow!  The old guy and the young 'en!!

DALLAS COWBOYS LOSE THEIR PLAY OFF GAME TO THE MINNESOTA VIKINGS  34 TO 3

The Dallas Cowboys were outplayed by the Minnesota Vikings.  All they could manage was one field goal and two field goals were missed;  no touch downs at all.
Tony Romo had a lot of pressure on him and was sacked several times.  He just didn't have the protection he needed.

You have to be happy, however, for Brett Favre.  The "old guy" still has it!!  It will be interesting to see how the Vikings play against the Saints next week!

The Cowboys went a lot further than anyone really thought they would, so they should be proud of their season. :cheer

The Colts beat the Jets and the Saints just beat the Vikings, so....

it will be the Indianapolis Colts and the New Orleans Saints in the Super Bowl!  Both these teams had a long string of wins before they had any losses, so I think they are the two teams that deserve to go to the Super Bowl.

I was at a Bridal Fair and missed the Colts/Jets game, but I did see most of the Saints/Vikings game and that was a nail biter.  Very evenly matched teams alternating touchdowns throughout the game.  In Overtime, the Saints were able to get a field goal and win 31 to 28!!

Monica - Lewis just got an updated weather forecast from New Orleans:

Quote
HURRICANE WARNING!!!

Be Advised! Hurricane WHODAT is making landfall, bringing Shockey waves and strong Brees with Hartley any chance of survival. Has already blown migrating Cardinals off course and sunk a Viking ship! Headed for Miami at this time.........

Stay tuned for more forecast updates!
  :lmao

I wouldn't be worred at all, but I have watched Peyton pull off too many miracles!  :para As I said, I  think it is great that the Saints just made it to the Super Bowl (that view is not shared by many people here!  :lol )

:lmao Monica! Tell your cousin that if I can put up with all of the crazy people here, she can, too!  (By the way - Lewis came home with a Saints bracelet for me this week!)  :lol  One of our Claymaniacs members who lives in New Orleans sent me the newspaer from the Monday after the Saints/Vikings game. The front page and the front page of the sports sections were both all Saints - I am framing the pages for Lewis' office. I hope she will send me the newspaper from next Monday, too - win or lose!

Has anyone ever heard about the Madden video game predicting Super Bowl winners (I  hadn't). I found this  just reading article about the Super Bowl:

MADDEN VIDEO GAME PREDICTS (http://blogs.forbes.com/velocity/2010/02/05/the-madden-oracle-videogame-predicts-super-bowl-winner/?boxes=techchannelblogs)

It will be interesting to see how the game does!

Good article, Monica  :clap This has to be hard on the Manning family - I just saw a Peyton interview. He said the equipment managers for the Saints were his baby sitters when his Dad played for the Saints!  :lol

It was a good game - really close for most of the time. I'm watching video from New Orleans - I know this will be the best Mardi Gras ever - bet the party will go on non stop until Fat Tuesday (the 16th). As a announcer just said, no work will get done for a long time down there!  :lol Congratulations to the fans of both teams  :clap :clap
