Let's see, where did we leave off..... Clay has all kinds of fans - young, old, male, female, black, white, straight and gay.  There is the one thing that we all have in common though - love.the.voice! Clay's diverse fan base is one of the things that makes him special!

Yeah, yeah, yeah.  Warm and fuzzy is nice and all that, but listening to Clay makes me feel all sorts of other things!  This is the best description I have EVER read of Clay's voice and its effects. Its also from Amy's story "Good Buddies" and reprinted here with her permission!

I know.  I just meant that since those words of Amy's were about the effects of Clay's voice and they left you all warm and fuzzy, that these other words Amy wrote, also describing the effect of Clay's voice left me feeling slightly, shall we say, different.  :slick

No she doesn't write for a living but she definitely could.  I think it is something she would like to do.  Maybe one day she will.

I am not watching.  I never watch result shows.  They somehow are able to turn what should take 5 minutes into an hour and I get bored easily.  Bo was ok, but everything he sang sang the same - and I have always hated that he got a pass on 70's Dance Music night!

There is only person who could get me to watch a results show.  Anyone want to guess who??  :slick

Gwenn agreed, Bo not his best...I think he was sick..two reasons why, 1) his voice cracked or sounded hoarse in spots and 2) he sweated like a Banjee...I don't remember him ever dripping wet like he was last night....  I still love Bo!

Greetings -- I also thought Bo was not at his best -- and thought it was too bad that those who've just started Idol this year missed out on what he can really do.  Had forgotten that I own his CD -- not my favortie song (or CD) -- but I am a huge Bo fan, and think he rocks -- usually!!!

Was sorry to see Gedeon go -- but not really surprised.  I think he's one of the top males, but his greatest potential -- in my mind -- is with that wonderful retro sound -- and I think he'd have to go more pop and varied to stay in, and am not sure it would be the best showcase for his talent.  Wierd -- almost like he's gone as far as he should in Idol -- but I sure hope someone in the biz, watching the show, grabs him.  I think Ayla was one of three divas (like Latoya, Jennifer, and Anastasia in AI3) competing with each other in people's minds -- I have no doubt that of these three Catherine will survive, as long as listeners don't assume she's a shoe-in and so don't bother to vote -- part of what happened with the other three, and with Constantine last year.  Thought Paris a little Dianna DaGarmo-ish -- song choice and delivery -- this week. 

But did you see Ace and Paris, after Gedeon was dropped???   Awwwww.  She was crying in the front, men's, row and Ace had his arm around her.  So sweet, really.  Is his brother a twin or just a fraternal bro?

Mandisa is vocally talented but I have a feeling that if she wins, her album would go along the lines of Fantasia's. I definitely would not buy it if that's true.

I'm hoping Chris wins. I do love Taylor and Bucky though.

Personally I think Mandisa is SO much better than Fantasia and I don't think her album would be like hers (although I've not heard Fantasia's and don't plan on it!).  I like Chris too and have since the beginning.  I think part of the reason I like him is from the audition and seeing his wife and how much she wanted this for him. 

I have a feeling Chris is going to win...

I think I'm enjoying them as an entertainment ensemble...That is it..And some are very entertaining..

BUT...


No one really stands out as CLAY did.. And  I believe CLAY will be the recognized TALENT in the years to come that sums up  and is represents the REALITY TV  TALENT  search experience..

Even more so than Kelly because he was like finding  a true diamond in the rough..

I agree that Mandisa's album could very well be along the same lines as Fantasia's (musically, maybe not lyrically), but I would definitely buy it! I could really listen to her voice - not Fantasia's. :puke

I thought Bo's hair looked great...no more split ends.  He can afford conditioner now.  His teeth have been whitened and perhaps even had some work done on them.  He was sweating, but it is hot under those TV lights.  He sounded like Bo.  I like that song and thought he was ok.

IMO...the six girls will be good competition for each other.  I have no favorite male, but am glad Bucky did not go home.

Bo's hair did look great. He was thin but remember last year he was hospitalized. I suspect that plus the tour made him lose some weight. Song was not that good but not mansy of the first albums were.

Kevin needs to go, to immature, needs to grow up some.
Gideon would have gone eary anyway.

Mandisa is great, Kathryn could blossom, Elliots voice is wonderful, Chris is rockin, I love Taylor, he makes me feel good, watching him is like seeing into his heart. The man has music in his soul.

I LIKE MANDIZA A LOT--WELL AS MUCH AS I LIKE FEMALE VOICES.  I DON'T THINK SHE SOUNDS TOO MUCH LIKE FANTASIA.  I DON'T LIKE FANTASIA'S VOICE.  SHE SCREAMS TO ME.  NOT SINGING IMHO.

Hi all.  :wave  Bo's performance last night was not very good to me.  I was never a big Bo fan but last night was not his best.  Carrie was so much better the other night than him.  I am glad she won , remember some thought that Bo was robbed the same way as Clay.  But her album is doing so much better and she sang so much better than him, but she is a little stiff still on stage and does not seem to have as much personality as Bo.  I think that is what Simon meant when he told Kellie Pickler that he probably preferred her over Carrie.  Kellie Pickler has spunk and personality that is endearing to people.  REminds me of Clay in that way .   I was not surprised as to the vote offs but thought Gideon would stay and Kevin would go.  Kevin is cute sort of in a little boy kind of way but his voice the past two weeks showed his lack of experience and nervousness.  I don:t think he belongs in the top 12.  The girls were exactly who I thought would go.  As for the guys no one yet really stands out for me.  Some of them have pretty good voices but not much personality to match.  Ace is definately the cutest of them, which I am sure he knows but I have yet to hear him sing anything that is great.  As for the guy talent this year as in the past there is no one with the personality and talent and heart of CLAY.

Would be nice if Clay would appear on the show with a new single.  He can't get away from being the AI  winner  :lol   everytime he is in print or on TV. anyway I think as Simon said in his book, Clay was the best thing to happen to AI.  Wonder if he still feels that way.   :clap

I AM HEARING RUMORS THAT AI IS PUSHING ACE TO WIN.  THERE ARE ALREADY ACE TEE SHIRTS BEING SOLD. IMHO HE IS NOT IN A CATEGORY WITH CHRIS, ELLIOT, AND TAYLOR

It's not just Ace that has shirts, so does Taylor. I'm sure a couple of the others do too. Vegas odds did pick Ace during the week of the Top 24, but that can change. Especially now that we are down to the Top 12.

Kelly is too much the "country hick" for me. ("Ah'm a whut?? Whut's a minx? Is it lahk calamahri?") Whether it's genuine or put on for the show, it irritates me. :rolleyes

I like Chris, and can picture him as an Idol, too. :cheer Taylor is also great to watch, and I'm curious to see what he does in the next few weeks.

Elliott just doesn't do anything for me. And Kevin is in over his head.

Oh well.  I haven't watched the girls since they went into the top 24. I always seemed to have something to do Tuesdays.  As for the guys, the fact that the annoying Kewpie doll is still there is disgusting.  I much prefered Gedeon.  But the fact is, neither of them is likely to win so its just postponing the inevitable.  Every year there is one contestant who hangs on just to annoy me.  Season 1 it was that god-awful Ryan Starr.  Season 2 was Kim Caldwell, with Trenyce being a close second.  Season 3, who can forget Pasty Boy.  Last year it was that serial killer Scott. This year it seems it will be the Kewpie doll with that Taylor Hicks guy and his constant spasms being a closed second!

As for AI pushing Ace - don't think so.  He is certainly not the judges' favorite.  I agree that so far Chris is the stand out among the men, but its too early to declare a winner.  Last year, Anwar was amazing during this part of the competition, but when the top 12 started, he started to slide downhill.  You never know. 

Basically, I am a bit bored with AI this year.  I do know one thing that could perk my interest up a bit - a guest appearance by one Clay Aiken, singing his new kick-ass single from his "Quite Soon" to be released new album!

SunnyD ~ I agree with you on Elliott...does nothing for me.  Loved your Kellie impersonation too!  :wink  She is cute and has alot more personality than Carrie did but I think Carrie is the better singer.

Christie ~ I agree about this AI season and maybe others will lose interest in the show as the season progresses then AI will have no other choice but to get Clay on there to boost their ratings back up!  I know wishful thinking but it would be nice!  :yes

Well, Ruben is no more gone than Clay!  Seriously.  Maybe he'll come out with a second album "quite soon" too!  (What is it with these season 2 guys!  :bang)

As for Fantasia, I think she still gets a decent amount of radio play on R & B stations.  And she was just nominated for a Grammy.  She's not gone either.

They seem gone because we don't follow them and they haven't reached quite the superstar status Kelly has.  If we didn't follow Clay, we could easily think he was gone too, you know!

I don't think AI is in any danger of losing their audience.  I was bored last year too.  People love that show, even if they aren't invested enough in it to vote.  Its fun and you never know who they might "discover".  I hate to say it, but AI won't need Clay for a ratings boost, but Clay may need AI for his own ratings boost.

But if he doesn't appear, I could always hope for Joe Cocker!  :wink

Well, I guess I'll give my opinion, too.

I LOVE Taylor Hicks!  He looks like he's having a blast up there, and that makes me smile!  I also love Chris and Elliot, tho the stylists need to do some work on him, IMO.  Prettyboy, Ace, gets on my nerves.....and I can't stand all that falsetto!  It's almost like screeching.  I was kinda sorry to see Gedeon go, but he wouln't have lasted long....again, JMO.

Absolutely LOVE Mandisa, and no way does she sound like Fanny.  Fantasia screams, and screams, and screams!  And, Mandisa has such a great stage presence!  Katherine is also very good, and I see her going far.  Kellie is just too "hickish" for me, and I don't know how geniune that is.  I liked Paris a whole lot better in her audition.  So far, in competition, she's done nothing for me.

Oh, and I agree with you, Christie.  AI doesn't need Clay to boost ratings....It beat out Survivor, the Olympics, and Dancing with the Star.  I'd say that's pretty dang good!  On the othe hand, it would benefit Clay immensely if he were to appear to promote his next album, "Quite Soon".   :wink

Hey, ya know, I like Taylor.  He may be twitchy, but I'm hoping that calms down as the weeks go by.  But his voice is great.  I also like Chris.  Ace is hot, but his voice is just so so.  Constantine had FAR more charisma than Ace does, so I'm thinking Ace will only last a few weeks here.  As for the girls, only one has been consistently good for me and thats Mandissa.  So yes, I think a guy will win it this year.

As for Clay's CD?  *sniffles*  I've waited long enough, haven't I?  Come on already Clay!!  Give it to me!  Ummm... yeah... (repeats myself cause I just like saying it)...

The AOL thing could actually be a coincidence.  The majority of the real world I believe have not heard word one about the crap.  Internet dating is often seen as something the desperate and lonely do, so they could just meant that.

Of course, since we all know about the crap, our minds immediately went that route.  The good news is, they way it is written - whatever their intention may have been - if you haven't heard about the crap, this says nothing that would make you go "Hmmmm".  If you hadn't heard about the crap, you would just think its a dig at the video and Clay's ability to get a date.  And in the world of digs, I would prefer this to something more explicitly about the crap.

Do you really think that AI pushes people at us, or do you think they are affected by the fan mail, websites and interest they see developing for certain people more than others?  Do they have someone that they are invested in having win or are they watching public reaction?

I can see that Ace and Kelly are what their perceptions of "pop star" might be, but if America is mad about Mandisa, what would be wrong with backing her?  Isn't it about album sales in the future for them?

I sometimes get the feeling that any good looking guy could get up on a stage and be popular on looks alone.  I guess in the long run they would have to have some talent, but sometimes I really wonder if anyone cares as long as the outside of the package is pretty.

I've been wondering, how many copies of the new CD are you all going to buy? Is anyone going to a CD release party? I'm definitely buying at least 2 CDs (one for home and one for the car). I'm driving to KC for the CD release party our club is having at American Bandstand.

I will buy 4 for sure...one for the house, one for the car, one for my cousin (I always buy one for her), and one to put away for when I wear the first one out. 

I don't know too many Clay fans in my area.  I am not sure yet about release parties.  I will have to find out a little more about what is going on here in this area.

1)Okay, not sure who'd posted this before, but even though the sound is totally different, Ne Yo's "I'm so sick of Love Songs" ....which is number one on the radio right now!!!  The words are TOO CLOSE to "Back for More" and I hope that by May it'll die down and people will forget, but I sort of doubt it!!! 

Gosh I 'm happy to hear Clay's not in N.C. yet because to me that means he's working his little patooky off making that CD finalized and appearances finalized and tour plans finalized  :purpbana :purpbana :purpbana :bouncy :bouncy :purpbana :purpbana

I am off to Curves in a few minutes but first I need some help from those of you who are more computer savy than I am (and that would be just about everyone). 

When we got on this site and it was up and running I changed my avie because I liked the rose for Valentines Day and February.  Now I have been trying to change it and can't seem to do so.

What I did on the old site and for this first one on this site was to download a picture I had saved to "My Pictures".  I have tried to do that now and it doesn't work.  I get an error message saying it is too large or is not an avatar.  I have tried using pictures I had used on the old site and they do not work either.  I like to change my avie according to seasons, etc. so if someone can tell me what I am doing wrong and how to correct it I sure would appreciate it.

The more I ponder this, the more I think that May is the perfect time to release a new CD.

That makes touring possible over the summer months and that is always a good time to put a tour together.

Think summer fairs, outdoor venues, etc etc.

And TV appearances to promote the new CD would happen before the summer re-run season.

And the CD could be so hot by the fall season, that all the award shows would be interested--
think AMA, Billboard, Grammies. etc

I just found out this morning (by email) that the Louisiana Clay Fans are going to have a CD release party in Baton Rouge - we will be staying in a hotel for an all-night party (this IS Louisiana, after all  :slick). One of the members works at a Walmart, and they have agreed to be involved somehow - they have also told her that they wil give her a "heads up" when they find out anything about a release date, so she can start making hotel room arrangements for the Club.

In JNT 05, I got another concert after a haircut. His hair was fairly long in Council Bluffs, but by Kansas City the next night he had a haircut. I prefer the JBT hair more.

I read at CV awhile back that singles can be released anywhere from 4 to 8 weeks prior to the CD dropping. It just depends.

As for his new look - I don't think that was referring to his physical appearance.  I think his new look, new image, whatever, refers more to the way the public - the non-obsessed public - views him, a public who probably thinks of him only from AI - a skinny kid with a great voice who sings ballads.  We have already seen he's not that kid anymore, but the majority of America has not.

Of course, we don't even know the accuracy of that report.  For all we know, it could be as accurate as Clay saying we would have CD news "quite soon"!  :slick

I can't say as I dream about Clay, except for the fact that I did indeed dream about him last weekend. 

Maybe that is a sign that we will indeed be seeing alot more of him soon. :cross

Although I don't post much, I come to this board that I call home to keep up on all things Clay.   Well, do to a rumor I heard  about Clay fans backing Kevin Covais I felt compelled to post.  I hope that this is only a rumor and not Clay fans trying to manipulate the votes for a person that is clearly not one of the better singers.   I would hate to see more worthy contestants miss an opportunity of a lifetime because there was manipulation going on.   Whereas Clay was worthy of the AI title, Kevin on the other hand is not.  He does not possess the singing talent that Clay displayed when we first saw him.   Kevin might be able to sing in tune and with the beat, but is what you hear good?  I have seen segments on the news where people have trained their animals to sing on key or in tune, but is it good singing?   If what I heard is true, then I would be ashamed to call myself a Clay fan.

Ok, my excitement has waned a bit.  The more I look at this picture the more I think it could be from the TV Guide photo shoot.  The hair definitely makes it look as if it was from the TV Guide photo shoot - and if it was, I bet they didn't use it because the hair is sticking up funny. But, it is also possible he has gone back to that hair. I hope not.  I do wish he would keep JBT hair!

I got so carried away by the lack of a t-shirt, I never thought about it being rejected TV Guide shoot material!

Now some are saying they think its photoshopped because the shoulders look too narrow and the body doesn't seem quite right.  And if you look at it, that's true.  It does look a bit odd.

Damn, I so wanted this to be a new picture - and it may still be - but I have a feeling its not.

He better not be!  He better be working on all those many finishing touches of that damn CD!  March is over half over and with it any chance of a May release!  Early June would still afford him a chance to do pre-drop promos during May sweeps, but after that he's in trouble as TV dries up.

So if he's sitting around watching basketball it better be because right after the game he is going to blog with the CD drop date!

I'm getting beyond impatient and approaching pissed with how long its taking for this CD to drop!  It damn well better be worth the wait!

A thought struck me a few moments ago, and I must share.  ~Well, Hippy, if you must...then go to it~    :wink

I picked up a CD by a guy named James Blunt.  It is called Back to Bedlam.  There is this one song called Beautiful.   They play it all the time on the radio here, and it is a first rate song.   Darn song hooked me like a tuna.  I got to thinking....this is what I want most for Clay.  A really great song.  One that would show the skeptics how great he really is.  James Blunt has a cool voice, but Clay is beyond remarkable. He could make a song like Beautiful spectacular.  As I listened to the song over and over, I could hear Clay singing it.  I was weak in the knees.  I really hope that the upcoming CD has its own Beautiful in the mix.   A song that will be associated with Clay's amazing voice for years and years to come.   Clay needs to finally be recognized for what he is....a wonderful talent.   Instead of all the other junk, if you know what I mean.  Junk, be gone!

Well, what IS Clay's music?  There is no such thing as "Clay's music," and that is where RCA has dropped the ball.  It's also why we are getting a bunch of covers on the CD.  The only song from MoaM that got significant radio play was Invisible.  The other songs people remember Clay for are from AI - BOTW, Solitaire... and the wonderful Christmas music.  Since he only had the one CD, much of the music featured on his tours has been previously recorded material.  He even sang a cover on GMA last year. Now, we are getting more covers on the next CD.

I think Clay hired Jaymes Foster (Levy) because he wanted to sing new songs.  I think we'll have a few on the CD, but I think most of the songs will be covers.  Now, I would rather hear an old song sung Clay-style than a crappy new song.  But I find it hard to believe they couldn't find 12 good new songs in over two years. 

That seems ridiculous.

HOWEVER, I WATCHED THE CARY JBT DVD--THANKS MS. P.--AND I HAD FORGOTTEN HOW FABULOUS THAT TOUR WAS.  I KNEW IT WAS GREAT.  I KNEW I LOVED IT, BUT I HAD FORGOTTEN HOW AMAZING CLAY IS AT BREATHING NEW LIFE INTO OLDER SONGS.  THAT SAID, I ABSOLUTELY LOVED BFM.  HAVEN'T HEARD IT IN MONTHS.  I LIKED 1000 DAYS.

SO, I CAME TO THE CONCLUSION THAT CLAY CAN SING THE **** OUT OF ANYTHING.  HE IS A STYLIST AND AN ENTERTAINER BESIDES BEING AN INCREDIBLE SINGER.  I AM KEEPING AN OPEN MIND.  I JUST WISH WE KNEW HOW LONG WE HAVE TO WAIT FOR "QUITE SOON."

BTW--I HAVE MET A COUPLE OF PEOPLE WHO DON'T LIKE CLAY'S VOICE.  I THINK THEY HAVE HEARING ISSUES.

I know nothing! :lol  Just a feeling, based on the little bits o'news we've had!  I've heard the same rumors everyone else has heard....from calliek and mic stand at the CH and the stuff posted at the Sucks board last year. The EW mention of "lots of covers" being recorded....and Clay's blog mention about love songs, which I don't think would be his own choice of topic for new songs (JMHO) and .... 

... I'm just grumpy today.  :lol

I do think there will be some new songs though, because of all the different items the bloodhound fans have found about different writers and musicians being involved with the CD. 

The good thing is that new songs could show up on the ratings services, Promosquad and Rate the Music.  I hope lots of fans are signed up for one or both, preferably under A/C. 

And, it looks like Christina Aguilara's CD, due in June, is also covers.

I agree with both of you. Clay doesn't need to be singing anyone else's songs at this point in his career. He should be establishing himself through songs that will come to be known as his.

The JBT was fun, but this CD should be about more than him having fun singing old songs. It should clarify to the public who he is and what he is capable of as an artist.

I think that covers will define him as a karaoke singer: limited, unimaginative, unoriginal. Hardly a force to be reckoned with.

SUNNY--I THINK WE ARE ALL AGREED THAT ALL NEW MUSIC IS THE BEST FOR CLAY.  THERE IS NO QUESTION ABOUT THAT.

Is the covers prediction a fact or rumours/ speculation?  I would not believe a rumour now if it hit me square in the face.  Not after the recent explosion in our fandom.  If it is not a confirmed fact, I am not even processing it.  I would like to see Clay record a few covers, but I am hoping for at least 3/4 worth of original material on the new CD.  He is one of the best singers in the industry today.  He needs to put out his own songs.  He deserves nothing but the best when it comes to material.  He deserves to be on the radio.  And he deserves to be (finally) recognized, by the public at large, for the wonderful talent that he truly is.  And, I want this junk that keeps attatching itself to Clay...to go away.  I am sick to death of it.  He is a singer, not a frikking punchline.

Clay needs a radio hit!  It is that simple.  Christie has said this a least 100 times in her posts over the last few years.  And, you know what....she is right.  To make it, and really MAKE IT in the biz, an artist needs to stretch it out.  Create and develop.  Clay needs to show us what he is made of musically.  I want to know what Clay's music sounds like.  Because, right now, I really do not know either.  What does his music sound like????  I know what the voice sounds like.  But the music?  I dunno.

After all that has happened to Clay recently, I believe that he has to start pushiing his musical artistry more than ever.  The haters can smack the daylights out of his clean image with their smut sticks (lies), but no one on earth can touch that talent.  It is magical.  If Clay hits pay dirt with the new CD, and becomes a respected artist in his own right, then revenge will be his.  A proverbial kiss my sweet a**, if you will.  From Clay Aiken.  Sa-weeeet.  This is my biggest wish for Clay.  I would love to see him become a power player in the music industry.

Imagine, all of this started over James Blunt.  Clay is a hundred times the singer that James is. He is as talented as Kelly Clarkson.  And he can be as successful, commercially, as James and Kelly if he plays his cards right.  He has a great set of pipes.  He is stunning to look at.  He is a sexy little hottie.  And, he is a wicked performer.  Bring it on, Clay!

I envision this...a fab Clay Aiken song comes on the radio sometime soon.  Someone says "what a voice....who is that dude. I have to have his CD".  I say....thats my man, Clay Aiken.  :bouncy

GWENN, I don't know, but my general opinion is that more often that not, money is pretty much the motivator of everything.  :lol  I kind of hope the new songs are different ones, that we haven't heard yet!

I agree with Sunny about the effect covers will have on Clay and how he is seen by the public.  However, IF this CD is "mostly covers", or even a lot of covers, it may depend on what covers are chosen and how they are covered as to how he will be seen.  If they are covers of obscure songs - Invisible" was a cover ater all - and most will have never heard the original, then they may becomes his songs, as what happened with "Invisible".  If he does such a unique take on a song so that it becomes his, then that would be ok.  Jill said yesterday that some rap group is doing covers of old songs like "Angel in the Morning" and another I can't remember.  The kids hearing them have no clue they are a cover - nor do they care.  I am not suggesting Clay rap, mind  you, but what they are doing is taking an old song and truly making it their own and marketing it to a generation that probably never heard the original anyway.  If Clay can do something along those lines, he may be able to get away with some covers.

I would like to believe that the extended delays in Clay's CD has to do with the reversal of a decision to do mostly covers, but I still have a feeling that is not the case.  And if its not, then this is what I want for his new CD.  What original songs are on the CD to be KICK-ASS great. And for the covers to be songs where the original version is obscure and/or that his version of the cover is so unique it will make everyone forget that it is a cover.  I also hope his first single is an original song that will get TONS of radio play because, as Kim said, I truly believe this is vital to expanded Clay's fan base and assuring this CD's sales will be great.

As for Christina Aguliera's album - I hear it is NOT covers, but songs she has written that are influenced by eras gone by.  I forget where I read that, but I do remember reading it.  Was it an interview for MTV maybe?  Anyway, she and other artists do have an advanatge because they write their own songs.  Clay doesn't, so he is at the mercy of others.

I've been doing some self-educating on the topic of "Covers." 

Here is an interesting website giving a breif overview and history of covers, remakes, modern coversions, and contemporising older songs.  Check it out if your interested.

I started to make a list of hit songs that I knew were covers.  Then I got smart and found a website that lists cover songs along with the original artist.  It was amazing to see how many very successful artists such as Aretha Franklin, Patti Labelle, The Supremes, Eric Clapton, Mariah Carey, Celine Dione, Gloria Estefan, Willie Nelson, etc, had big hits with covers.  Also interesting were the lesser known artists, at the time, who had break out hits with highly successful cover songs. 

"Listen To Your Heart", currently on the radio, covered by DHT is an interesting remake of the Roxette song from 1988.  I remember the first time I heard the current version, in disbelief that Top 40 Radio would be playing a song from the 80's.  It only took about three listens to get used to the new version and deciding I liked the way it was redone and interpreted.  There is a dance mix song by Cascade called "Every Time We Touch" being played on the radio.  I'm not in to dance mix songs, but because it sounded familiar to me from long ago, I actually enjoyed listening to it.  Remember Wil Smith's cover of "Just The Two Of Us?"  The fact that an artist from that genre could take a song from another era and make young people listen, enjoy and appreciate it was sort of surprising to me.  Hip hop and rap seem to have gotten on the train with remakes/covers as well. 

I've been wondering if the music industry is attempting to lure the "older" listener back into their web using nostalgia as bait?  It's interesting that I do seem to enjoy most of the remakes I've heard and noticed that many from the younger generation have been buying into the covers/remakes as well.  For me it's revisiting and recapturing that youthful part of my life.  It's memories.  For the newbies it's just a great song with meaningful lyrics or a cool beat or a catchy hook.   :smile

Oh well, whatever covers/remakes are and if they have any significance or not, I do know that there are several I could have done without ever hearing.........."These Boots Are Make For Walking" via Jessica Simpson and "She Bangs" via William Hung  :para.  Covers/remakes may  not guarantee success, they may cause an artist to be labeled, but they do get your attention.  I guess that's something to ponder.

You know, I think the problem with Clay doing covers - especially if they are covers of well known songs - is that the vast majority of the people in this country still think of Clay as that kid from AI, where he sang nothing but covers (well, except for TITN).  He has already had to fight the label of being nothing more than a glorified karaoke singer.  Singing covers won't help that image.  Some new young artists might be able to get away with having a lot of covers on a CD, but Clay is already lugging that image around.

You know, its funny.  I bet Kelly could get away with covers now because she has so firmly established herself outside of AI.  I just wish, if the cover rumors are true, they weren't happening on this, only his 2nd mainstream album.

Of course, it this album takes any longer to be released, people will have long forgotten AI and anyone who was on it - or they'll have died off!  :lol

AND OLDIES.  BY THE 90'S, COUNTRY AND OLDIES.  I HAD NEVER HEARD MOST OF THE STUFF CLAY WAS SINGING AS COVERS.  NEVER HEARD KYRIE, STREETS, ETC.  SOME I DID BUT NOT MANY.   I GUESS I AM NOT THE ONLY ONE LIKE THAT. FOR ME IT WAS NEW MUSIC.  I COMPLETELY UNDERSTAND THAT FOR THE INDUSTRY IT ISN'T, BUT FOR ME AND SOME YOUNG KIDS, IT IS NEW.  I BET MOST KIDS THOUGHT BOOTS BY JESSICA S IS NEW.
