Title: My Week-End to Fight Breast Cancer-- See Page 3: THANK YOU !!!!!!!!!
Post by: ChrisieD on February 26, 2006, 06:21:07 PM
First I want to thank Pamela for allowing me to post this here  :hugg

Those of you who know me, know that this cancer has touched way too many people in my life.
So I am here to ask you to help me with the fight against Breast Cancer.

In Sept, I am participating in the Week-End to End Breast Cancer here in Toronto. The Weekend to End Breast Cancer is simply this - an awesome life changing adventure. During one amazing weekend, September 8-10, 2006, thousands of women and men will unite in Toronto to walk 60 kilometres in a bold display of courage and commitment. It’s a weekend of hope, as we honour lives lost, celebrate survivors, and help bring breast cancer care to those who so desperately need it.

But, in order to do this walk, each person NEEDS to raise $2000   :eek This is alot of money for one person to raise !! The net proceeds benefit Princess Margaret Hospital Foundation, an international leader in the fight against cancer and the largest institution in Canada devoted to cancer treatment, innovative research, and education programs.

So, I am here asking for your help. If you would like to donate ANY amount of money to help me with this cause, I would soo appreciate it and you can go directly to the Breast Cancer site and donate directly to my wep page, by just clicking on donate, where you will see a picture of my 2 girls. If want to donate and you're not comfortable with donating over the internet, you can PM and I can give you my address and you can send a check, money order, cash, whatever you would like and I will put it up on my page under your name. ~ Here is the link ~

http://www.endcancer.ca/site/TR?px=1271897&pg=personal&fr_id=1120

This walk is a first time for me and it is a meaningful one. This cancer has touched many people near to my heart, both friends and family. I walk for them, I walk for you, and I walk for the future of my children. If I am able to do this walk, and I walk across the finish line with my dear friend fighting this disease right now, it will be one of the most rewarding thing I have ever done.
So, if you can, please help me in this fight against breast cancer.
Thank you in advance in helping me and supporting me in this journey. This would not be possible without you. :bighug

Love,
Chrisie

I thought I would put up a pic of my friend Moe who I will be walking with and for.( and some friends.) This was taken at x-mas time. And for those of you who don't know me, I'm on the bottom left.

Dear CHRISIE:

Why am I not surprised that you would be the first to come forward on our Board to proclaim her love and support for the many, many women who are or have in the past been fighting the battle of their lives---breast cancer??? My life, as well, has been touched by breast cancer---my aunt, my sister-in-law and several of my friends throughout the years have waged their battles, some successfully and others not so successfully.  Never have I witnessed such courage and grace during trying times than  through the examples of each of these special individuals.

I will be sending you a donation via check.  If I had worked a little harder to get myself in shape over these past few months, I can assure you that I would be walking in the Chicago event.  We love you and so appreciate your efforts on behalf of so many.  We will be cheering you on in spirit during that weekend!

Love,
Thea

Chrisie,

I admire you greatly for stepping up for this cause and making a difference!  Many of us have been touched personally, and we have a member - Carol/LiftClayUp - who is dealing with this disease right now.

You are very special, and I am more than happy to provide a place to share the information so our members who are willing and able can pitch in to help you meet your goal.

I also commit to making a contribution toward your goal.  I hope you will keep us posted as the weeks go by as to your progress as well.

Good luck my friend!!

Thanks guys !!!!

And if anyone has any ideas on how to do some fund raising, that would be much appreciated as well.
So far, we are having a community garage sale with ALL the proceeds going to the walk and Sharon has suggested a BBQ in front of Wal-Mart. So I'm on that today  :purpbana to see if they will help.
Also, we will be hosting a charity b-ball tournament, and I'm making flyers to hand out in my neighborhood. So that is where I am at so far. So any more suggestions ??

I am so proud of you Chrisie!  :hugg

My great aunt died of breast cancer. My grandma is approaching her 10 year survivor anniversary. Breast cancer has definitely affected my life and my family's lives.

I'll think of some fundraising ideas and let you know!

I am thankful that you will be walking on behalf of all of us for this most worthwhile cause.  I lost my kid sister to breast cancer 3 years ago.   There are others in my life who have won the battle!  Cheers to you, Chrisie!  :clap

Debi, thank you soo very much !! :hugg

The fundraisinig is hard b/c I really hate asking for money, but the more people I talk to about this, the more people come out saying they know of someone how has gone threw it  :bang Sometimes it is so heartbreaking, but you have to give positive words and know that you are doing everything possible to help, and they in turn want to help.
I am soo excited about this  :purpbana It is so uplifting helping like this, I can't really explain it, but it is a GREAT feeling !!!

One of my Clay friend just gave and put up on my site ~~

Clay  and I think you are great !!!! :woohoo :woohoo :woohoo

Loved that, it just made my day !!!!

Chrisie, what an amazing thing to do.  You are truly an extraordinary person.

When I was raising funds to pay for Kandise's cheerleading, I found that the most successful fundraiser for me was having a car wash.  You get some volunteers to help you.  Find a local business that will let you use their water and some parking area.  (We used our local Veterans of Foreign Wars Eagles club.)  Go around and sale tickets and hang up signs.  Charge $5 per car to wash it and vacuum out the inside.  It adds up fast.

That's how we made most of her money.  Good luck!!!!!  And may God bless you for your generous heart.   :hugg

 :wave Kris,
That is a great idea and it is something all our kids can get involved with as well and would be a lot of fun  :purpbana I can see a lot of water fights happening :lol I'll keep you posted on that one. :clap

Today, I'm going to a second hand store and taking all my kids old summer cloths and they give you money on the spot. Not alot but it helps. :shappy

Thanks again !!! :hugg

Well, can I ask for some help AGAIN  ???  :wink

There are 5 of us doing this walk together and we need a team name. It can be REALLY FUNNY  or inspirational or anything you can think of.

For example, some from last year were ~

      THE BOOBIE BABES
      THE BARE BREASTED LADIES
ALL FOR BOOBS AND BOOBS FOR ALL !!

All we have so far is TEAM HOPE and FIGHTERS FOR SURVIVORS

So any help or a name would be great. :purpbana

Thanks guys AGAIN !!!!

Bumping up for Chrisie . . .  $783 now!
Chrisie, you definitely have some good friends, here and everywhere.

Thanks Pamela !! Yes it is true, and that amount doesn't included yet those here that I know of who are mailing in there donation directly !!

Well, I think our Team name is going to be Bustin Loose. The name really doesn't mean anything, but it just shows the members -- friends etc... which again, means nothing b/c there are alot of us doing this walk and we are all going to be walking together which will be awesome. We decided to keep it fun and silly and not serious after all.

So we are going to do a car wash -- THANKS KRIS and one really big party and get prizes donated, which is not a problem, our group has a lot of connection ( hope they come through ) and we will have poker tables going with play money and have entry fees to play and a karoake mic hopefully and they have to play to sing. LOL and the winner gets a prize as well.
Last year, my friend put on a b-ball tournament  ( one day ) an put an add in the paper and got great responce when stated it was for the Breast Cancer Walk. So we will do that again as well.

So thaks again ladies for your help and prayers.
There are five in our team, so that means we need to raise 10,000 !!!!!!
Wish us luck !!!!

Post by: ChrisieD on May 01, 2006, 05:36:10 AM
Well, I couldn't have done this walk without the help of all of you wonderful, amazing, supportive people !!
I was very hesitant to do this walk b/c of having to raise $2000, I thought I would NEVER be able to get it. Boy was I wrong. With the Claymaniacs at my side, you all helped me to to raise $810 !!!!!!!!!!!! :yes Just from you guys alone.
Saying THANK YOU doesn't seem to be enough b/c I am just soo happy to have been able to have the love, trust and support from this board. Some of you I know personally, some of you I have only talked to, and some of you I have never met or even talked to on the board and to have your support means the world to me.
I only have $90 more to raise to get my $2000 and I am selling the breast cancer ribbon magnets for the car and they are selling really well at the moment so I am confident that I can do it :purpbana

When I tell people that I have received alot of money from my Clay friends, the kinda laugh and when I tell them how much, they say they all wished they had Clay friends. The Claynation rocks  :clap

So, THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU for everything !!! The donations, the words of encouragements, the Pm's, the love and support over-all. I'm in awe of all of you.

And you now what--I've received amounts from $10 up to $150 and it's not the amount that you gave, it is the fact that you wanted to help support such an important cause for woman. That is the whole point here, just wanting to help.

So, again, from the bottom of my heart, I THANK YOU !!!!!

Love to all of you,

Sincerly,

Chrisie

I highlighted it for all to see.

Thank you Sharon  :hugg

Well she is right and beat me to it.

This week-end.......... I leave on Fri to do the Week-end to End Breast Cancer Walk here in Toronto. It is a 60KM walk over 2 days that benefit Princess Margret Hospital Foundation which is an international leader in the fight against cancer and the largest institute in Canada that is devoted to cancer treatment.

First of all. I was so hesitant in doing this walk b/c of the money raising factor. We had to raise $2000, and as you all know, it is ALOT of money to raise. BUT, as I have stated before, The CLAYMANIAC Family and I do mean FAMILY have helped and supported me like none other. You all have helped me raise over $1,100  :purpbana and I can truly say it wouldn't have been possible to do this walk if it wasn't for all of you and your help :hugg People had been asking me how I raised alot of my money and I say my Clay Friends and they kinda look at me funny  :bigsmile but then they all say " Wow, I wish  had Clay friends like that !" And I feel blessed that I do.

This walk is going to be an awesome , life changing adventure for me. Cancer has touched many people close to my heart. Many of you here have touched me with your stories, some about yourselves, some about friends and family, and I want you to all know that you will ALL be in my heart while I walk.

This will be one of the most rewarding things I have ever done and I am soo looking forward to the many tears I will be shedding b/c they will all be tears of joy when I cross the finish line for all of you. I can not express my love and thanks to each and everyone of you enough.

My love to you all.

With my sincere thanks,

Chrisie

CHRISIE !  :hugg

The time is almost here!  During your Walk for Cancer this weekend, it makes me happy that Claymaniacs could be involved in what you are physically doing to help fight this devastating disease! :clap

I am so proud of you!  You are always kind and caring and now you have taken on the challenge of the walk to help raise more funds and awareness!   May this be a fight that we some day will win!

Take care, dear friend!  Please remember that your Claymaniac friends will be cheering for you as you cross the finish line!  :cheer2 :cheer2

Thank you Sharon, Marion, Thea, Marilyn, and Barb  :bighug

Well, I'm all packed and ready to go, I leave right after picking up the kids from school. Please pray it doesn't rain. There is a 60% chance for it on Sat and a little cooler than usual. It would be so miserable to walk for 6-8 hours each day in that weather  :bang

My friend was telling me last year, she saw alot of people wearing Clay t-shirts for the walk   so I can't wait, hopefully I will see a few and talk to them. :purpbana :purpbana

So I will be back on Sunday night, probably late. So have a great week-end everyone.

And again, THANK YOU from the bottom of my Heart for all the love and support you have shown me.   :hugg

 :wave

Chrisie,

Godspeed, dear young lady.  I know that you will have not only your friends walking alonside you this weekend, but also the spirits of those who have gone on after having lost their battles with Breast Cancer.  Don't feel surprised if you hear somebody whispering into your ear ("Keep going, you can do it!") and maybe even you will feel somebody lifting you and carrying you across the finish line.  They will be there every step of the way, I can assure you.

Have a wonderful and amazing experience on behalf of all of your fellow Claymaniacs!  :hugg

I have to tell you about my weekend a little, I hope you don't mind b/c it was the most AMAZING thing I have ever done and I will probably start crying while writing this.

First of all, there were  5,423 walkers and we raised $17.2 MILLION dollars which was a record !!!!!!   Amazing ! It was so emotional I can't describe. To see soo many people, young and old with pink lanyards on which let everyone know they were survivors was unbelievable. The walkers all had blue ones as well.
The walk started at 7am Sat morning with opening ceremonies which really made you cry but made you very happy to be there. We walk 32 KM  that day through the streets of Toronto  and there were hundreds of people out on the street supporting you, giving you water, fruit, candy and lots of Hi-5's and hugs along the way. People had there houses decorated with pink ribbons and balloons and alot of cheers from windows and people on there porches. I can't describe to you how amazing it was too see that. Again, many tears !
The walk was hard, I won't lie. My feet felt like they were on fire by the end of the first day. The first day took us exactly 8 hours, but that was with stopping at the pit stops for snacks, water and potty breaks and for lunch. It was shockingly organized, I couldn't believe it. Each pit stop had a themes and the volunteers were soo upbeat and really got ya going even if you thought you couldn't. When we got in, we signed up for massages which were much needed. We had dinner which was too good, but it got really really cold and we were wet from the rain all morning, we had to leave. They had festivities inside a tent, but it was just way to cold. So we went back to the hotel and RAN to the hotub !!! LOL !! Thanks god for that. We were fighting over the jets to put on our lower backs and feet for a little more massaging !!! LOL !!
Got up the next morning to do it all over again. Felt ok when I got up. I got one big blister on my big toe b/c my feet were wet from Sat and I changed my shoes for Sunday. This day seemed really easy to do. A little shorter but knowing the end was coming I guess made it easy. Alot more supporters along the way cheering you on. You really felt like a celebrity walking b/c they were all there to see you and cheer for you. Very Cool.  When you reach the finish line, there were thousands and thousands of people there and watched for what seemed hours just Hi-5ing everyone as you reach it. All 5 of us walked this arms and arm together across the line and just started balling our eyes out !!! I wasn't able to walk with Moe the whole time for a few reasons, but she was there at the finish line and I ran to her and gave her a hug hug and we cried together. LOVE HER !!!!
The closing ceremonies was something to be seen. All the walkers got blue shirts and the finish line that said " WE ARE COURAGE" on the front and we all walked in and formed 2 big areas with space in between that was rope off for the crew and survivors. There was sooo much cheering when you walk in, you couldn't hear yourself talk. Again, balling !!! Next, all the survivors with there pink shirts on walked in-between us and that was amazing and hugging and kissing each other, very very touching !!! and then the crew of volunteers came in after them in white shirts. So there was a rainbow of colors made-- beautiful. Then the speeches came etc......more tears, and then it was over.

I can't even begin to explain how amazing this whole experience was for me.I had a huge headache from lack of sleep and crying so much, but I have all ready signed up to do it again !!!! Very emotional and very uplifting at the same time. I have ALOT of pics . There is one of Me and Moe that is the best pick I think I have ever seen and I cherish it.  She was actually on the news Sat night !!! They by chance just picked her to interview and showed her Sat walking across the finish line that night, Very cool.

So that was my week-end. Thanks for listening and for all the support you guys. It was amazing !!! I couldn't have done it without all the love and support you all had shown me. I am all ready very excited to do it again next year !!!!

My love to all of you !!!!!
