Good morning!  I wasn't online very much because I was fighting what has turned out to be a nasty 24-hour flu bug.  'Feeling better today, but I need to take it easy as possible today.

GLORY, feel better.     I hope the Phenergan helps to correct that problems you are having again with your GI system.  I agree that you should try non-surgical options  before jumping back into surgery again.

SHIRLEY, feel better, too!  I so understand how miserable all of those tests and blood draws can be.

We had a 3.8 earthquake overnight.   eek!  Since we live about 20 miles from the epicentre, I definitely felt it (Phil didn't, though  hypnotic).  I heard and felt the roar and shaking from a huge "snowplow" at about 4 a.m. this morning.  Little did I know what that actually was!  I was surprised that Mimi didn't react, as animals usually sense earthquakes before they happen.  However, maybe she did whimper and I didn't hear her until the "roar and shaking".  (Or as JOHANNA on the CM calls it "Shake, Rattle and Roll--she's from California!   Laughing)

We also had about 14 inches of snow starting yesterday a.m. until the middle of the night.  The Midwest is certainly a mess!

Tomorrow at noon Phil and I will be flying out of Milwaukee to Minneapolis for a family wedding.  The son of Phil's cousin Martha, (he is very close to her and her late husband) is getting married.  It could be a strange wedding from the looks of the invitation.  I'll return and report on Saturday!    Laughing  Anyway, it will be good to see some family members again!!!

I have 3 loaves of banana bread baking in the oven even as I type.  Iused whole-wheat flour and lots of freshly mashed bananas and ground walnuts.  It should be yummy and very healthy, too!  Coincidentally, GWENN from the CM was doing the same thing today!!!!   Laughing

Take care, one and all!  Have to get busy cleaning up after my baking and I also need to start packing.

Got back from the doctors and ready to go lay down for a bit.  GLORY so sorry you are not feeling well .  Hey I think  you and me are falling apart!!!  Not Fair!!!

THEA, so sorry to hear you have not been feeling well either.  Have a good trip and enjoy  the wedding. Will look forward to hear about the wedding.

PRISSY sure hope that pill helps your bones.  You being so active helps you just as much I think.  It was really cold today  going to the doctors, the wind being so cold it was hard to breath.  Hubby had to use 4-wheel drive to get out of the driveway for the drifts of snow.

FRANKIE, I was starved when I got home from the doctors and ate to big of a lunch.  Hope I am hungry for dinner.  Not sure what I am having for supper.  Smoked sausage, sauerkraut and mashed potatoes and corn or pork chops, cooked cabbage and macaroni and cheese!!!!!!!!!

Hello OCD wave

God, I am depressed…a couple of days ago I gave my next door neighbor dogs their daily treats, while I’m giving it to two dogs, I heard another dog barking, I thought I was hearing things so I ignored it. Late yesterday I found out that my next door neighbor has three dogs now. What the heck are they thinking?! They don’t walk the dogs nor spend times with these dogs…I am confused. I now hear three dogs howling and crying. I am trying to ignore them by sleeping somewhere else but I still hear them, this morning I was awaken by a yelping dog, I think they are beginning to fight. I think I may need some anti-depressant drugs soon.

MIL will be having her surgery earlier due to cancelation. She will be here in March to get ready for her surgery in April. Her doctor and nurses told her that she may be staying here for four months but MIL thinks she will only be here a month. Last week her sister called to tell me that MIL called her to ask for a recipe…a recipe that MIL could make without thinking…she now forgot how to make this recipe. MIL’s older sons are having a hard time with all these going on.

Our rain has finally stopped and I’m waiting for my yard to dry-up so that I can start cleaning. The front yard looks decent but my back yard needs a lot of cleaning. Hubby and I will be beautifying our front yard once the weather gets warmer. Some of my potted plants froze but I think I can still save them.

PEPE, I hope your doctor visit will be quick today as it is too cold for you to be out there. BTW, I have not heard from Kelly, I still owned her two pms.

SHARON, your chocolate drinks and chocolate donuts are getting to me, I went out and got me one donut, God, it was the best donut I have eaten in a long time and I was glad I only bought one, otherwise I would have eaten more.

JOANN, when I start upping my exercise that’s when I started losing weight, like you, I love walking as it is the safest way to lose weight but it takes time…I have time but I don’t want to get bored and lost interest all together.

GLORY, I hope you won’t have a surgery to go through…be well.

Special hello to Miss Betty, Kelly, Prissy, Thea, Jan, Frankie, Michelle, Meesa, Miss Carol, Monica, Jayne, Angela, Sasha and the rest…

I'm back - got healthy groceries - nothing exciting there!  Laughing Looked at all of the Valentine and Mardi Gras treats, but didn't buy any  Paranoid

Sharon - I looked at all of the donuts, too!

Pepe - I bought some low fat hot dogs (turkey) and some sugarless hot dog buns. I haven't had a hot dog in so long - think I will have a fake one for supper!!!!!  Laughing I'm "cooking" a Healthy Choice dinner for lunch right now - 5 WW points, and it has a dessert, too!  Purple Banana Laughing

Thea - great minds think alike!  lmao I baked banana bread this week for my friend's son. I love to bake something in the winter when I am shut up in the house - makes everything smell good. Memphis has earthquakes fairly often - not many people know it sits on a major fault. Having your house shake is an odd feeling!!! Have fun at the wedding.

Glory - hope the medicine helps, and that you get a good nap. There are weather problems no matter where you live. We don't have snow or ice often here, but we have 100  plus temps most days in the summer, and then there are those pesky hurricanes and tonadoes  Paranoid

lolita - I am sorry about your neighbor's dogs. Maybe things are not as bad as you think. Even Jack and Tuffy fight  - especially when Jack gets too close to Tuff's favorite toys! I have to really fuss at them sometimes.

Just checked the OFC - no News yet.  doh

FRANKIE, that makes three of us doing the "Banana Bread Dance" !   Purple Banana Purple Banana Purple Banana

LOLITA, I absolutely hate to hear about neglected dogs.  I have nightmares about things like that.  But hopefully as FRANKIE suggested, this situation isn't as bad as it appears.

You are such a good DIL to be taking care of your MIL in your home pre and post-surgery.  Not an easy task, I'm sure.  I will pray for your strength and patience, sweet friend.

Now I have to pack.  Yikes, what were we thinking when we made these plane reservations for a trip to Minnesota in the middle of February?   doh  But I'm sure we will be happy that we went.

     Lolita,
?                  I  am so sorry you are depressed, I know how you worry about the dogs next door.
Do they leave them outside all the time'. What on earth are they doing getting another
dog.?I really don't know what you can  do unless they are actually abusing the poor things.
Please do not make yourself ill over this. i sympathize with you as we have been  in your
situation... that"s how we got our last dog.

Your MIL is going to do what she wants to do no matter what you say. Don't worry about
her forgetting the recipe, I can vouch for the fact that as we age out short term memory
goes.I forget so many things now.

      Thea,
I hope you have a safe trip and enjoy the wedding. Yikes! I did'nt know you have earthquakes
                      in your area.

,                    It really is a bad time to travel this time of year but the planes don't usually fly if it's too bad.

What is with this banana bread craze????  i can't  bake anything because of my daughter"s diet.
                   I love banana bread!!

       Glory,

Hope you have a good nap and wake up feeling much better

I can understand your not wanting
to have more surgery if you can avoid it.

If you are looking for a warm place to move too, Florida  t is definately
not it at this moment. It has been very cold for quite a while. I do agree with Frankie though
you would not like the summers.

It must be miserable being shut in because of so much snow.

      Shirley,
It"s very bad that you have to go out in that bitterly cold weather,I know it
must be very bad for your breathing.

                     What did the doctor say???

Sounds like you had some good food when you came home, now have a rest.

Good Afternoon!

Skip just left for church to help with the cooking for Soul Food Supper this evening.  He is going in earlier because they will be short handed today.

We have been buying the special tortillas at Walmart.  Our lunch was a wheat tortilla wrap with turkey, lettuce, tomato, shredded cheddar cheese, and low fat Ranch dressing!  Turned out tasty!

Wow, Thea!
An earthquake and 14 inches of snow!!! shock  How will you get to the airport and are the planes still flying?  I know a lot of flights have been cancelled in the NE.
Enjoy the wedding and let us know how it goes!    Almost every wedding has something unique about it!
Sorry you have been ill, but glad you are feeling better!

Frankie and Thea,
I am allergic to bananas, but as long as they are cooked as in banana bread, I can tolerate them.  It is nice to smell the aroma of something good baking, especially on a cold winter day!

Pepe,
I know it is hard for Jennie to breathe really cold air, so I'm sure it affects you, too.  Glad you made it to and back from the doctor safely.  I wish I could send you dinner from Soul Food!!  I'll find out soon what it is! Laughing

Lolita,
I know you worry about your neighbor dogs.  I don't know why people have dogs when they don't care for them or give them attention!   When those ads on TV come on showing dogs and kittens that are in shelters that need a home, I just can't bear to watch.  I have to turn to another channel.  It is just too upsetting.
I wonder about you talking to the neighbor on the other side of the neighbor with the dogs?   They may have some insight into what you all might do?  This might be worth a try.
At least you are giving them a daily treat and some cantact.  Now, try to not let this upset you too much.

Betty,
Banana bread does sound good.  I am going to bake cupcakes today or this evening for the Pond Club meeting that we "may" have if the weather is not really bad.

I also have the Whitlock Club in the morning and the quartet is supposed to play.  If we were not playing, I would just not go if the weather is bad.  A friend from the club told me that if the Fort Worth ISD cancels classes tomorrow, than the Woman's Club will be closed.  If the schools are open, the club will be open!!

So, I will be like all the FW teachers and students tomorrow morning listening to find out about a Snow Day!! cold

soapbox
Lolita reminds me that we all want to help out when we see a need.   We cannot save the whole world or all the pets out there, but if each one of us does something to help out, that multiplied by millions means a lot.
Each of us should be involved in some way as a volunteer in our community.  Also, involved in something global!  This is where Skip and I need to step up.  I am interested in becoming part of a charity or organization that provides clean water to parts of the world where there is a big need.  I have been researching some of these charities, but need to make a commitment.

I hope you all are having a nice day and staying warm!! cold

      Frankie,
I did"nt know Memphis had earthquakes, I have'nt been in one since I
was a little girl in England and it was"nt a bad one.   As you say with hurricanes,
tornados and earthquakes Memphis gets it"s share of natures wrath.

It must be the banana bread season, everyone is baking  them I agree it"s
nice to bake something good when the weather is bad.

BTW we tried some fat free hot dogs and they were not bad at all.

Guess Shirl will be enjoying her Valentine" luncheon about now.   We
talked about how happy she was that she moved into that building.

Just checked the OFC again - nothing..................

Prissy - The Rotary Clubs have water projects as one of their international projects. Even as small as the Many club is, it provided a well to a small village in South America a couple of years back - two members even went when the well was put into operation. You may be able to read about water projects on the Rotary web site. When I went to our family's reunion last summer, a cousin who attends a mega church in Memphis was selling necklaces she crocheted out of ribbon (I keep meaning to post a photo of that necklace - it is amazing!) She was selling the necklaces because her church had decided to provide water to a village in Africa.  Members were all doing something to make money. It makes such a difference for women to not have to spend all of their time carrying water. I am sure you can find lots of ways that one of your groups can "Adopt" a water well, or you can simply donate trough UNICEF. Although we are still active with the March of Dimes, and we will always donate each month to St. Jude, we have been trying to be more active here in our State, especially since the hurricanes. There is so much need here. A lot of our focus now is supporting food banks. You are right - it doesn't take a lot to make a difference.

Betty - Shirl gave me her coming schedule - they are keeping her busy!  Clapping

JoAnn - no weight loss this week, but no weight gain, either!!!

It is cold  today - still waiting to see if and when the bad weather will get here.

Subject: A Few Laughs for a rainy day

My  husband and I divorced over religious differences.
He  thought he was God, and I didn't.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Marriage is  a three-ring circus:
Engagement ring, wedding  ring, and  suffering.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
For  Sale   :
Wedding dress, size  8.
Worn once by  mistake.
---------------------------------------------------------------------
There are  two times when a man doesn't understand a woman:
Before marriage and after  marriage.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Why were hurricanes usually named after  women?
Because when they arrive, they're wet and  wild, but
when they go, they take your house  and car.

----------------------------------------------------------------------
The woman  applying for a job in a   Florida   lemon grove
seemed way too qualified  for the job.
"Look Miss," said the foreman, "have you any  actual
experience in picking lemons?"
"Well,  as a matter if fact, yes!" she replied.? "I've
been divorced three  times."

-------------------------------------------------------------------

An  old man goes to the Wizard to ask him if he can
remove a curse he has been living  with for the last 40 years.
The Wizard says, "Maybe, but you will  have to tell me
the exact words that were used to  put the curse on you."
The old man says without  hesitation,
"I now pronounce you husband and  wife."

-------------------------------------------------------------------

Reason  Why It's So Hard To Solve A Redneck  Murder:
All the DNA  is the same.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
-
I  was in the express lane at the store quietly  fuming.
Completely  ignoring the sign, the woman ahead of me had slipped into  the
check-out line pushing a cart piled  high with groceries.
Imagine my delight when  the cashier beckoned the woman to come forward
looked  into
the cart and asked sweetly, "So  which six items would you like to buy?"

Wouldn't it be great  if that happened more often?

-------------------------------------------------------------------
Because  they had no reservations at a busy restaurant, my elderly neighbor
and  his wife
were told there would be a  45-minute wait for a table. "Young man,
we're both 90 years old," the  husband said "We may not have 45 minutes."
They were seated  immediately.

-------------------------------------------------------------------

The  reason congressmen try so hard to get re-elected is that they would
hate
to have to make a living under  the laws they've passed.

-------------------------------------------------------------------
All eyes were on the radiant  bride as her father
escorted  her down the aisle. They reached the altar and the waiting  groom;
the bride kissed her father and  placed something in his hand.
The guests in the front  pews responded with ripples of laughter. Even  the
priest smiled broadly. As her father  gave her away in marriage, the bride
gave
him back his credit  card.

-------------------------------------------------------------------
Women  and cats will do as they please, and men and dogs should relax  and
get used to the  idea.

---------------------------------------------------------------  ---------

Three  friends from the local congregation were asked, "When you're in your
 casket, and friends and
congregation members are mourning over  you, what would you like them to
say?"
Artie said: "I would like  them to say I was a wonderful husband, a fine
spiritual  leader,
 and a great family  man."

Eugene   commented:  "I would like them to say I was a
wonderful teacher and  servant of God who made a huge difference in
people's  lives."

Al said: "I'd like them to say, "Look, he's  moving!"

-------------------------------------------------------------------
Smith  climbs to the top of   Mt. Sinai to get close enough to talk to
God.

Looking up, he asks the Lord... "God, what  does a million years mean to
you?"
The Lord replies, "A minute."
Smith  asks, "And what does a million dollars mean to you?"
The Lord  replies, "A penny.."
Smith asks, "Can I have a  penny?"
The Lord replies, "In a  minute."

-------------------------------------------------------------------

A  man goes to a shrink and says, "Doctor, my wife is unfaithful to me.
Every evening, she goes to Larry's bar
and picks up men. In fact, she  sleeps with anybody who asks her! I'm
going crazy.
What do you think I  should do?"
"Relax," says the Doctor, "take a deep breath and  calm down. Now, tell me,
exactly where is Larry's bar?"

-------------------------------------------------------------------

John  was on his deathbed and gasped  pitifully.
"Give  me one last request, dear," he said.
"Of course, John," his  wife said softly.
"Six months after I die," he said, "I want  you to marry Bob."
"But I thought you hated Bob," she said.
With  his last breath John said, "I do!"

----------------------------------------------------------------------
A man goes to see the Rabbi.  "Rabbi, something terrible is happening and
I   have to talk to you about  it."
The  Rabbi asked, "What's wrong?"
The man replied, "My wife is  poisoning me."
The Rabbi, very surprised by this, asks, "How  can that be?"
The man then pleads, "I'm telling you, I'm  certain she's poisoning me,
what should I do?"
The Rabbi then  offers, "Tell you what. Let me talk to
her, I'll see what I can find out and I'll  let you know."
A week later the Rabbi calls the man and says,  "Well, I spoke to your
wife. I
spoke to her on the phone for three  hours..
You want my  advice?"
The man said yes and the Rabbi replied,
"Take  the poison."

Frankie---That's okay about no loss, I would gladly trade you the weight I gained last week for your no loss week! bigsmile

Mom and I had a fun day.  She "beat" me getting dressed and was rearing to head out of the house.  She had been in bed for the last two days and she wanted to rejoin the world.
We headed out to Khol's and she ended up getting two pair of pants and one blouse.  All on sale plus I received a 30% discount in the mail to use my charge card for the next three days.  Plus, for every $50 spent, you get $10 Khol Dollars.  The total price we spent after the sales was $66, so we now have a $10 certificate to use before the end of Feb.
All her clothes have become so baggy since she is really losing weight.  The blouse will look beautiful with her blue eyes and white hair.  It is very pastel blue/green(?) I guess a sea blue?    We also went to the Dollar Tree and Albertson's grocery store.  Once I get her into a grocery store, I have to "force" her out! lmao  She even spent over an hour in one in Rome, Italy.  She had a ball, couldn't read or speak the language but she still bought stuff there.

Lolita those were very funny Laughing Clapping
Prissy, interesting that you bring up volunteering, it's something I've been thinking about myself the last while.  Working less~~~wish business was better, but it is what it is, has given me more free time.
I know how rough a cancer journey can be and have thought about being a volunteer driver for the cancer society.  I also enjoy seniors, Woody and I usually had things happening at his long term care facility Laughing so I'm torn between the two. I could honour Al and Woody's memories by being involved with either Huggles
Frankie, how was the fake hot dog Laughing
